District 2 has three candidates

NATCHEZ — Three local men are in the race for the Adams County Board of Supervisors District 2 seat.

Joe Eidt

Joe Eidt, a sales representative for a supply company and member of the Natchez Recreation Council, said his campaign focus is to bring a realistic notion of fiscal responsibility and leadership to the board table.

The board needs to unify to get things done for Adams County, he said.

“If the board can come together and work progressively as a whole, the good things (in the county) that are starting to happen could flourish and become greater,” he said. “It seems like they have a split vote for everything that comes up, and I’m ready to see some consensus.”

Eidt said he wants to save taxpayers money, but he’s not afraid to invest in a project if that project will bring jobs to the area.

George Souderes

George Souderes, the director of emergency management for Adams County Civil Defense, said he is running for supervisor because he feels like he has more to contribute to the community.

Souderes said he wants to bring his knowledge of emergency management to the board and wants to include some federal agencies in the work of Adams County.

Souderes is a former Adams County Deputy Sheriff and is also the Adams County Homeland Security director.

“I believe in the community,” he said. “I’ve always worked for the community.”

Henry Watts

Incumbent Henry Watts said he wants to get the entire county designated a rural commmunity by the federal government, which will open up doors for tax credits for both citizens and industry.

Watts also wants to implement a 3-5 year strategic plan for where the county will be socially and economically stable at the end of that time, and to consolidate some county departments and use the saved funds to create a county-wide recreation program.

The election is Aug. 7.
