Co-Lin’s Winkworth elected chairman of state group

WESSON — Copiah-Lincoln Community College Board of Trustees Vice Chairman Roy Winkworth of Natchez has been elected chairman of the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior College Trustees during its annual meeting recently on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

“I am excited about Mr. Winkworth’s appointment as chairman of the Trustees Association,” Co-Lin President Dr. Howell Garner said. “He has excellent leadership skills and will be a great asset to this organization. I look forward to working with him in this capacity.”

Winkworth has been a member of the Co-Lin Board of Trustees representing Adams County since 1995 and has served as vice chairman since March of 2002.

Winkworth is a graduate of York Memorial Collegiate and Ryerson Institute of Technology (Toronto, Canada), Lake Forest College (Ill.), and Advance Management Institute (Ill.). He was the human resources manager with Johns Manville in the U.S. and Canada for 34 years.

Since his retirement in 1994, Winkworth has been a human resources consultant and is currently the director of the Natchez Retiree Partnership. An active volunteer in the community, Winkworth served six years on the Board of the United Way of the Greater Miss-Louis and served as vice chairman in 2000. He has numerous positions with the Natchez Retiree Partnership including chairman of volunteers, volunteer director and director. Winkworth has also served as a member of the SALT Committee and Financial Officer of TRIAD for Natchez/Adams County. He is a member of the Natchez/Adams County Chamber of Commerce and Co-Lin’s Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR), where he serves as a volunteer computer instructor.

In 1996, Winkworth was honored by the State of Mississippi as Volunteer of the Year for the Natchez Retiree Attraction Program and by the Governor and Mississippi Economic Development Council as the Volunteer of the Year in Community Economic Development for the Natchez Retiree Partnership. He also received the 1998 Natchezian Award by the Natchez/Adams County Chamber of Commerce.

He and his wife, Barbara, have one son, Paul (Sarah) and three grandchildren, Rachel, Taylor and Dean who reside in Smithville, N.J.
