Residents look for solutions to area’s crime problem
Published Friday, November 9, 2007
NATCHEZ — It will take effort from residents and law enforcement alike to address crime problems, community members said Thursday night.
Approximately 30 people attended the city’s second community meeting on crime.
The group met at Prince Street Daycare.

Reports of drug activity, loitering and burglary were among the top concerns.
Residents from the surrounding neighborhoods suggested installing more streetlights and increasing police patrols.
Some residents asked police officials why they weren’t patrolling the area as much. Police Chief Mike Mullins said they were shorthanded because of officers injured, in training and serving military duty.
Some residents thought they could take action, too.
“If we’re going be out of town, we can put timers on lights, make it look like someone’s home,” Charles Price said. “Put motion sensor lights on front porch.”
Ora Frazier suggested that, along with better lighting, a direct approach might help eliminate the problems.
“We have to let these people know that we care about them, show some kind of compassion to them,” she said.
Frazier said speaks to those loitering on the street on a regular basis. Recently, she had what she thought was a fire in her house. Those same people were the first to jump to her aid, she said.
Mayor Phillip West suggested creating fliers to let both residents and those causing problems know that the neighborhoods would not tolerate problems anymore. Also, a neighborhood association would be vital to addressing the problem, he said.
Mullins suggested the area host a block party to kick off the effort.
A handful of those in attendance volunteered to head a committee to organize events and create the fliers.
Another such community meeting will be in approximately a month to follow up on progress and plan for future activities.

Could this be a possible start in the right direction? I believe, that for the residents from the Prince Street area, that this is a positive start in helping curb some of the crime issues. But my faith that the Aldermen and law enforcement administration will not follow through, which will leave the residents even more confused and angrier than before. I still believe with all of my heart that the main problem comes from the lack of concern and non-sufficient inaction coming from the justice system. Until we get some judges (and D.A.) on the bench that are truly going to be FOR the good citizens of Natchez and Adams County, going to support our law enforcement agencies, become less biased, prejudiced, fair, raise the bonds, stop suspending sentences, and using overall "common sense" in dealing with drug offenders and hardened criminals, this will all be another "play on the public", causing a much wider divide between the good, law abiding citizens and City Hall. I also feel that the Board of Supervisors are very disconnected with the crime issues in the county and need to become proactive in the situation along with the Board fo Aldermen and the Mayor. But, then again, apathy is created due to hipocracy.

"Police Chief Mike Mullins said they were shorthanded because of officers injured, in training and serving military duty."
--> This is beginning to sound like a broken record. Am I confused or is the city/county still collecting taxes? If the money is in the coffers, then use it and stop making excuses.
You have an article here talking about new housing construction, and unless you are blind the construction in the city limits has been ongoing for quite some time. Sales tax revenue is obviously about to increase due to the holidays, so do some forward thinking and use your common sense.
"Mayor Phillip West suggested creating fliers to let both residents and those causing problems know that the neighborhoods would not tolerate problems anymore."
--> This sounds more like a campaign for class president and less about creating a viable deterrent. Not surprising though. Does he honestly think that posting notes on telephone poles is going to make any difference?

Stateofnatchez...there is plenty of monies that the city recieves for the police/fire department from state & fed gov.The city leaders put that money in the general fund to hire consultants & for their pay hikes instead of helping the police/fire department.

I applaud the concerned citizens who attended this meeting!!!! Please keep the momentum going so a positive change will come.
Mrs. Frazier, you are so loved and respected in our community. I hope you will keep us posted (here on the Natchez Democrat forum) on the challenges you encounter going forth -- let us know what you need to pull it together. Your former students are assigning you the task of reporting to us, in essay form, of what is being accomplished. :-)

Maybe we need to start having citizens arrest. We could have citizen patrols that hang around on street corners just to watch those who are hanging out on street corners, and when they do something wrong...grab them and scream...citizen's arrest, citizen's arrest!

well i think mullins had the right idea!! throw a BLOCK PARTY!! GET THE WORD OUT!! IT'S ABOUT TIME!! AND THE LADY WHO THOUGHT HER HOUSE WAS ON FIRE... SEE??? maybe walking up to these 'thugs' and just saying hello instead of rolling up windows locking doors and giving them the look of fear in your eyes maybe they will start seeing they don't scare any one!! i'm not saying it's going to STOP the crime but it may slow it down a lil...
and you see that man with his finger pointed looking all scary in that picture!! he was on fire!! if i was one them lil thugs i woldn't won't to cross his butt!! haha!!

Seems there's always another reason to throw a party, lol. Party on Natchez!
Man gets shot 30 times...let's have a party. Woman gets shot in head...let's have a party. 19 year old gunned down...let's have a party. Wedding...let's party. Funeral...let's party. Divorce...let's party. Solve crime...let's party. Maybe Natchez spending too much on parties and needs to go to an old fashioned tent revival instead of partying so much, lol.

Lemme hear an amen from ya, Junkyard Dawg. Excellent concept. Just wish that WOULD happen! Go all the way back when our Founding Fathers were drawing up the Constitution. They said our nation was founded on God. Why can't they just start from there? It worked for our country way back then, why not now?

Who has the most effective solutions to the crime problems in this community? I think it the parent. Parent to step up and be partent. The partent must let the kids know who is boss.

What happened to the "Crime Stoppers" telephone number? I know people were encouraged to use it a while back but I have not heard it mentioned lately and haven't seen it posted anywhere either. Did it not help? That number should be posted on every corner in town! Nearly everyone has a cell phone and they could quickly and easily report criminal / suspicious behavior without calling attention to themselves. Callers would be assured of their identity remaining anonymous, therefore, they would not feel any reprecussions from reporting a criminal act in progress.

There's NOT crime stoppers info out there, is it!!! Natchez used to have the "Turn In a Pusher" program. Remember TIP? Paul O'Malley, the ex-downtown alderman started this program years back. I guess the one who took his place didn't see fit to continue it. The CITY sure didn't see fit to continue the program. I remember the signs all over town. Shame.

LUV2TRAVEL - please don't take anybodys word on these posts for facts, if you want to get a copy of the city budget go the city hall and request this. This comment page has turned into "who wants to be a moran". People just spout out whatever they feel, if I read these posts everyday I would truly think Ntz is going down fast. This city will survive, there will be somebody who steps up like always and fixes these problems. Natchez is the oldest settlement on the MS river, it isn't going to fold up and cease to exist like you might read on these blogs.

I've got something interesting to share with you that was never put in the paper....just this week downtown a man in a truck was following behind a car with texas plates...the man with texas plates was slow to go on the green light so the man following him honked the horn and then they both proceeded to go...at the next red light the same thing happened..when the man in the truck had the chance he went around the car with texas plates and at the next stop they were side by side...the man in the truck looked over at the man with texas plates and found himself looking at gun pointed at his face!! HE FIRED HIS GUN AT THIS MAN!! Some how he missed and the bullet hit the top of his door! Had it been lower he would have been killed! If we have too many police officers hurt or gone serving in the military than they need to be replaced!! Natchez has got to have more man power! This is ridiculous. These thugs know in Natchez they can pretty much get away with not getting caught. I'm starting to not feel safe here and if the crime continues to increase I will leave and that means another business leaving also.

You are so correct, Geauxtigers! But the parents have to have some kind of morals themselves. If you look around and pay attention to the lifestyles of different individuals today, we have to first get the parents in line. We were discussing the same thing in PTA one night about how to improve education and student behavior, etc. I mentioned to the fellow parents that we have to reach these kids when they are small, because they have a lot coming to them at an early age now. It's going to take the good parents; because majority of these children in our community schools who are under ten years of age, have parents who are between the ages of 24 and 30 (and younger). Most of them are still living the so to call "fun life". I'm not judging these young parents, but children mimic their actions and learn to live that way especially if they see it. If the parent doesn't teach their children to learn, they won't, unless there is someone else to help them which is rare.
The point I'm trying to make is that, first of all I agree with you, it starts with the parents. But it will work out so much better if the parents put God first in their in their lives. Education, discipline, and every thing else will fall in place in due time. Parenting is not easy, when you are trying to do it right.
Geauxtigers, you have a good point.

mcmy, just for the record, Texas has just passed a law that makes it legal to carry a concealed weapon in your vehicle without having to have a permit. S-O-O-O, be careful when you honk your horn or feel enraged with a driver with a Texas license plate. You never know, that person may have a gun under their car seat and a very short fuse.
I'm just waiting for the crime statistics in Texas and surrounding areas to shoot up (no pun intended)! There's going to be a lot of people killed and injured from road rage incidences.
What are they thinking . . . giving thugs and potential criminals the green light to carry a gun in their vehicle for easy access when they want to commit a crime. And, if a career criminal or a convicted felon gets caught with a gun under seat when he's pulled over, he'll just claim the car belonged to someone else and he didn't know the gun was there.
O-o-h-h, what a tangled web we weave!

I love Mrs. Ora Fraziers suggestion, to show these people that we care about them, show them some compassion. People need someone to look up to, they need someone who they respect, that way they feel shame for hurting that person if they do something wrong. I think Mrs. Fraziers suggestion is one of the biggest first steps. When people take away the hate, and quit judging each other, things get a little better. It's not a total solution to the problem, but it will help. (When we say show them we care, show them compassion, that doesn't mean give them a handout, but a helping hand, a friendly word, a smile, an opportunity.)

They have had a law in La. for a few years now that it makes it legal for anyone to carry a gun(except of course a convected felon). And anyone wanting to commit a crime using a gun will have one ANYWAY, and so far as a convicted felon pretending that they didn't know that a gun was in the vehicle if stopped...that won't wash with a law enforcement officer...it is a parole violation and it is their responsibility to know whether there is a weapon in the vehicle or not. Being able to legally carry a weapon is for the law abiding citizens to be able to protect themselves. It is also legal to shoot anyone trying to high-jack your car in La.

On September 1, 2007, the State of Texas passed a law making it legal to carry a concealed weapon in you vehicle (concealed under the seat or in the glove compartment) WITHOUT having to have a license. YOU DO NOT NEED A LICENSE ANYMORE!!!! Only CONVICTED FELONS cannot carry a weapon.
SO DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU START BLASTING OFF AT THE MOUTH!!!

luv2travel, what EVERYBODY needs to remember is to keep a cool and level head! Guns are nothing to play with. It really doesn't matter who has the biggest gun. It's the one with the quickest and best shot who MAY remain standing.
It doesn't matter to me if the license plate is from Texas or Timbuktu, I think being aware of the fact that more and more people may be legally carrying concealed weapons is worth noting. There are just too many foolish people on the road already -- allow them to carry a gun in their car legally and you may find a lethal situation. But I guess that's what some folks want, some more guts and gore to talk about and read in the newspaper.

Stop laying blame on the parents and whatever else. These people know right from wrong just like everyone else. Have that block party to force the city and county to hire more officers. And when someone is arrested. Slap em in jail with no bond. Make the punishment as severe as possible. Stop babying the poor little criminal. Make 'em suffer and think twice the next time. Or in my unpopular book. You don't get a second chance.
Look when my mama told me she was going to blister my butt. That is exactley what she did. And you can bet I never commited that infraction again.
Stop listening to all the pity parties. Oh they've had it so bad, boo hoo. Well tell your sad story in prison. Hire the officers City of Natchez.

the "real" problem with the city isn't crime but oppurtunities! u will always have a crime problem where there is poverty, unemployment, and lack of education! mississippi has one of the highest drop out rates among highschool children! I liken my trips back to mississippi (natchez)to those I've taken to undeveloped countries!! and that's how mississippi is. out of all the states its it seems as if mississippi has excluded itself from economic and financial oppurtunity for whatever reason and with natchez its to be "historic" natchez should follow suit and have a historic division of the city and not a historic city!

imho on the cops.... If ntz police officers are off doing military duty, then they should have reserves take their place until they come back. I visit downtown quit often on weekends and i very seldom see a patrol car.

I mean natchez needs more leaders and people who want to see natchez become a place where u can come to earn money and want to live, not a place u have to come and visit then leave because its so prejudice and no oppurtunities!! no one wants natchez to just be a tourist town how about the people that live there? cuz more cops is just like saying hey the way to stop crime is to build more prisions!! just ridiculous! natchez seems more worried about its tourist and its antebellum home preservation than about creating new oppourtunities for the people that live within the vicinity of the city!! natchez is the spectacle of a joke and all of its people are getting laughed at and not with!! a ltcol once told me perception is reality to the person perceiving it and if that's true based on the comments that have been posted crime isn't the only problem there!! and it shows that ignorance penetrates all races and all people. what would make a person say they would leave a city because of crime? crime is all about stats just because u live in a low crime area doesn't mean u won't become a victim!! sure stats "show" ur less likely to be a victim but are u any safer? no. natchez doesn't really have a crime problem and I'm sure if u left natchez crime won't stop and it will be wherever u are! from the drunk white man beating his wife next door to you! or the black guy selling drugs!! maybe ull feel safer with a white guy next door that's beats his wife than a black guy that sells drugs to support himself and sells it to willing buyers!! blacks sell illegal drugs and whites sell legal ones to willing buyers also! but one is a thug and the other is a ceo!! wow how many of u or ur kids smoke or drink? they'll likely die of a drunk driving or lung cancer than a addict trying to rob them for money to buy drugs!!

But, I get your point.

yeah there are those that's lazy as jammin said but can u blame em really? look at the job situation there?? how many jobs are paying enough for people to make a living? its more minimum wage jobs in natchez than anything! it should be more jobs for people that were born there and really want to stay but can't because the job market there is scarce and ull only make enough to get by in natchez!! I stay in baton rouge now and even tho the cost of living is higher I'm getting paid 21hr with 6 yrs military exp and some college! I'm 25yrs old! and black are there any oppurtunities for me like that in ntz? and its not about race because its a lot of poor whites in natchez that feel the same! and btw happy birthday to all the marines nov 10th marine corps birthday! so if u see a marine congratulate em! semper fi! leaders should be leaders of all!! the president should be a president for all not just whites or blacks or republicans or democrats!! they should represent all!! and the only way to get something accomplished is to work together not as a white or black community but as a city! the whole city should be supportive and contribute!! and get out the mindset of black and white, "enemies of my enemy are my friends" someones or anyones problem should be everyones problem and should be addressed accordingly! have we all forgotten the key whites that marched with dr king? have we forgotten the people that helped blacks escape during slavery!! yes a lot were white people!!!! and it seems as if today that some whites aren't as willing to be involved with something or anything that doesn't involved them anymore just like in jena!!! we all have to get involved when there is a problem and not just talk about it on public forums? who went to the meeting? who on here is doing anything? these are the people that want more cops and prisions and not jobs, education, and oppurtunity! the "talker" always have the easy way out like jail while the people who help and make difference know that its not that easy

because if we turned away and locked up every "criminal" then were not solving the problem! criminals are people who somewhere along the line have made mistakes! I was told (at natchez high) a mistake is only a mistake if u fail to correct it! so we have to make sure our systems that are in place like the corrections dept are doing the job they were intended like correcting errant behavior and rehabilitating the individual! which its not doing that system isn't working properly! why? because when they get out thet aren't looked at as being rehabilitated are they?? nope they are still convicted felons with criminal records!! a potential employer doesn't "see" rehabilitation he/she sees background! its as if being a criminal is a crime!! we have to have systems in place to give kids and former criminals hope or its just gonna be this continuous cycle as it has been for years!! crime has changed. the conditions, enviroment, and oppurtunities that turn oridinary men into criminals havent!!!! and the system to rehabilitate them after they've become criminals is flawed! its like the n word people just jump out and bring up rappers wth?? these guys are rappers is don imus a rappper? (i don't have a problem with his remarks in regard to race but it was offensive because they are women not hos I could care less about the hair comment) is dog the bounty hunter a rapper? no he's not!!! rappers don't represent the majority of blacks but yet they bring up rappers when comparing obvious racist comments made by dog to his son to that of a rapper saying them in a song lyrics how pathetic is that?

I'm going to germany in 10 days and I love making a difference! so anything I do its gonna be to help others!! I've sat with alzhimers patients and cleaned up katrinas trash!! and yes ntzcop because in ntz its about black and white!! is it not? when isn't it about black and white its not my fault its reality!! it shouldn't be but it is. just because I'm not racist or prejudice doesn't mean that I can't see the problem and that's how it is in ntz. we have seems like white problems and black problems and not natchez problem. I just want people to realize that's its just not one persons or groups problem!! everyone has the responsibility to make sure their city is safe!! I wish more blacks would get involved on "white" issuses and whites get involved on "black issues" that's the only way that anything will get done we have to come together!! and I think more cops not the option cops there are getting a bad rap! u don't judge a citys or the police or sheriff departments on the number of crims committed! u judge them on the number of criminals caught and locked up!! officers can't stop crime they are only responsible for finding the person and taking them to jail and they act as a deterrent? we all know what crimes have been committed so judge the cops and city on how many criminals been convicted? how many in jail? how many been found? any leads or suspects!! we should judge them on their job and not things they can't control!! like when I was overseas no one told me to stop suicide attacks all together!!! if it was a person left or any part of a person that was involved we arrested them and picked up body parts!! next time officers see the criminal is in court for testimony!! they're not involved with they facts to determine they stay in jail other than collecting evidence!

the DOG situation has gotten out of hand. It was a private conversation and to be honest. I know a lot of blacks who have used the n word about blacks in the same context.
The n word can and is meant to be used on any race or person according to the dictionary. BUT negro is not..
I don't give a rats A$$ if someone calls me honky, cracker, white powder, etc.
BUT i use to HATE being called the B word, it came from the person who raised me calling me a little B all the time. Yes, I was very opinionated.
BUT, it doesn't bother me now. I had to come to terms and deal. Now when someone calls me one. I say thank you very much, I am so glad you noticed how hard I have worked, to become the best at what I am...but, please call me Queen B. With a capital B..LOL
Life is what you make of it. No matter where you come from, how you were raised or what opportunities you have thrown in front of you. You make the best of what YOU have and GOD will take care of the rest.

yeah but if u haven't noticed not everyone believes in god that's why the aclu sues everyone!! and not true it has a lot to do with where u come from and things of that nature!!! stats show that most "criminals" are "products" of their enviroment. yeah the convo was personal but it doesn't matter this person was basically a law enforcement official cmon I was a marine just got out on the 9th and u didn't hear professionals talking like that! or u don't hear any professional blacks talking like that if dog wanted to feel like that or if anyone wants to use words like that then he's in the wrong profession!! he shouldve been a rapper then!! no one picks up on words like that at his age especially just by being hip!! that's not a word u just pick up on and say when u almost 40 to be hip!! he knows better and though I choose not to crucify him but he has a responsibility as a officer of the law to adhere to ethics and standards!! the samething I had to do as a marine!! u can't be a public figure (of importance) black or white who use that type of language that's unacceptable! and un professional!! I mean the guy that's taking u to jail calling u a n?? black doesn't mean using that word is acceptable!! people point at rappers like they represent ordinary everyday blacks!! u don't hear oprah saying nga!! how bout that why they never say "oprah doesn't say" it but they wanna point out that 50 cent does!! who the hell is 50 cent?? he a rapper who cares? he went to college? u hear montel saying it on his show? how about justice thomas did he get on 60 min spewing out the n word!! how about black people that black people care about. no one who wants to be sucessful in life and oustide of the music industry look up to these people. it looks silly when imus or dog or any person say that hey rappers say it all the time why can't we? because 1. mr dog and imus u are not rappers! u are professional people with real careers!! music is entertainment and people are trying to combine the two to justify improper remarks!

do barack obama or other blacks go on his campaigns or his/her job spewing the n word around to his/her colleagues? who cares about rappers why they point out rappers who use the word rather than officials that are on the same standing as them? I love howard stern and I been watching his show forever!! even when I wasn't supposed to when I wasyounger.. and I've heard some bad stuff come out his mouth but nothing like what's been said recently. I'm guilty of saying it to! but ill never say its right, ill never say it to or around anyone I don't know black or white especially in a professional enviroment. and if I was talking to someone who didn't mind me using the word but in the presence of someone who wuld be offended if I used it then I wouldn't. and I'm sure I could give it up for my career just like the weed in highschool before I went military. yes it was a personal phone call but I would respect him more if he said that rather than make excuses!! and I hate bill oreily and rev peterson more than I hate dog....i can't forget bills protege michelle I don't like her either! sorry had to rant a lil bit

ijohnson & buttercup,
My sincere apology. I used a less than reliable source. I left Texas in June 2007, and was not aware of a change.
Bottom line- Rational, law abiding citizens will not abuse this law. They will continue to get the license issued by the Department of Public Saftey (Highway Patrol)
Here are excerpts from the Dallas Observer on October 25:
House Bill 1815, championed by both the NRA and the ACLU, clarified the 2005 statute allowing residents to carry a concealed weapon for protection while "traveling" in a private vehicle without a concealed weapon permit.
Most district attorneys and police agencies around the state have construed the definition of traveling narrowly.
According to a study by Scott Henson, with the Texas Criminal Justice Coalition, 13 county or district attorneys—including those in Houston and Fort Worth—instructed officers to quiz motorists found in possession of weapons about their travel plans or simply arrest them, seize the weapon and let the prosecutors sort it out. The questioning could get ridiculous: Visiting Grandma in another county was OK; getting groceries was not OK.

If you set down and think about it. Name calling is really kinda funny and sad. It's a way to NOT say what you really need to say. If someone calls me the B word. They just called me a female dog??? Now if I want to read all sorts of things into it. They called me someone that complains alot. So if they really have a problem with me. Instead of calling me a quick name and running off like a chicken. Why not stand their ground and tell me why they think that of me.
And where in the heck did all these slang/cuss words come from. Is there a book out there explaining all of this? I think some people are way too sensitive about getting called a slang name. To me that just shrunk the person that did the calling. Years ago I got called a honkey <spelling>. Well I didn't jump up down and call the UCLA and try to sue. Besides what the heck is a honky. If that refers to being a white person. What did they just call me??? a white person. Someone calls me a cracker, well alrighty meatloaf. Ha.
Gay people, are what really happy, well good for them. How about if you have a problem with someone. Just tell them you have a problem. Hit and runs are never pretty. And yes saying that the "chicken way out" is yet another slang. So I will say that is being a coward with nothing to back your words up. At least the word coward is in the dictionary. And you know exactly what I am saying.
We are all stuck in a very bad rut with this name calling thing and color. And losing sight of the bigger picture. Like crime, hunger and illness of all races. Shouldn't that be the real focus. And instead of always pointing out. That a black kid sold drugs. Or a white kid broke into a house. Why do you never hear that a kid did these things. What difference does it make what color they were. Why is it so important to annouce the color.
You know my birth certificate says that I am white. Ok, that is suppose to identify me by sight. Not by morals or standards. But who knows, there may be some other races in my background. Aren't Asians referred as yellow, Indians red. There are so many interacial marriages now. In the year 4000 I bet we are all gonna be the same color. Which just might not be a bad thing. Then what are we gonna find to fight about.
Right now if you have a better car or bigger house. Somehow this sets you above others in all cultures that I know of. If you stop and think,, it only, only means you have a better car. Not that you are a better person.
The different cultures and races. Well isn't that the same thing. I find thoughts and traditions different from my own fascinating. We have all adopted something from a different culture into our lives in one way or another. Look in your closet around your home and in your driveway.
And the next time you want to point out someone else's short comings. Look in the mirror and think before you speak.

well with me carrying my weapon in my vehicle as soon as an officer walks up to my van he/she doesn't even speak before i tell them I DO HAVE A GUN IN MY CAR!! EVEN WHEN I WORKED FOR DOLLAR GEN. AND CARRIED AROUND BOX CUTTERS I TOLD AN OFFICER I HAD A FEW BOX CUTTERS IN MY POSSESION... (i seem to have great luck with getting pulled over from speeding or running into a road block ALL THE TIME! GRR! HA!!) i remember me and some friends where headed to woodville one night a road block was set up and the girl driving just went on through it at 65 to 70 miles an hour with all the 'PARTY LIGHTS JUST A FLASHING' we had 2 state troopers on our butts in matter of secs! thank GOD they just laughed it off when the girl (scared to death) told them she had no clue what all them cops where there for!! she had never been through a road block before!!! haha!! Good morning buttercup26 and jd!
jd, I accept your apology and I would like to issue one to you because my response was too harsh. After I posted it and read it, I thought, "Man, that's not quite how I wanted to respond."
Yeah, the laws are forever changing. It is hard to keep up with it all. There was not a lot reported about it on television. Personally, I don't think this new law is a good idea. I think it should be a requirement to have proper gun training, a waiting period and an extensive background check. I also think psychological testing should be a requirement. There are a lot of people with suicidal tendencies who will wipe out their entire family in a murder/suicide. Even though no law will be able to prevent it all, I think a few protective measures may save one or two lives.
buttercup26!!!! What's been up girl???? Are you still burning up the highway between Natchez and the coast? :-) With Christmas on our heels, have you all started planning for the sale of your grandmother's book? I think this would be a wonderful time to get it out there -- celebrating Christmas and Jesus' birth, etc. It would be a great gift!

Whisper, I hear you, loud and clear! And, I like what you have to say. I'm a firm believer in saying what you mean clearly and not throwing words out there then running and hiding.
So many people are just so ignorant about other cultures and races and refuse to open their mind and think rationally. It's much easier for them to put all blame on someone else while they paint this pristine picture of themselves. This badly-distorted picture is viewed through their rose-colored glasses, too. Just a sight for sore eyes, if I must say so myself!!!
I wonder, now, why we are fighting among ourselves and making race such a dividing issue when we all know that MOST of us are not just one race. Almost every black person in Natchez and the U.S. has white blood and vice-a-versa. And, yeah, in about 100 years, we'll all be one shade of people -- one color. Then, what???
STOP THE INSANITY!!

OK heres the solution, but it cost money. #1- Camera system #2- Electric Fence #3- A monitor and recorder so when the intruder comes on your property, you light his ### up sit back and laugh. As far as the drugs, Good Luck, when you are making dope out of battery acid and rat poison and they out number the people who don't use drugs you know our community is in trouble. At some point we are going to have to make an example out of somebody. I mean cut their head off type example, I know this sounds extreme and inhumane but right now the mind set is that they might go to jail and they might not. When they get to jail things are not going to change, they can still get what they want.

Well I'm gonna get in real trouble for this one. But if you make all the drugs legal. That will open up alot of jail cells freeing up more tax dollars. I would rather feed someone that is hungry, than house a junky. If they want to take drugs, nothing you can do will stop it. If it's legal the price and demand will go down. Because then anybody can make it and sell it. Hence no more drug lords and cartels.
We have tried to stop the inflow and usage. It has not worked. So if they are determined to kill themselves. It's time to step out of the way and let happen what will. After awhile it want be the groovy thing to do anymore. < Told my age didn't I, HA.
You know when people choose to take drugs. They made a personal decision. Cigs., alcohol, peanut butter, toothpaste. I actually know a woman that was so obsessed with clean teeth. That she brushed all the enamel off of her teeth. Well now she is bankrupting her insurance company with dental visits. Anything and everything out there can be abused. And there is not one single thing any of us can do about it. Except choose for yourself alone what your poison will be.
Even though it's law now. I don't wear my seat belt. So I choose the risk of sailing through the windshield one day. Leave me be about it. Just because a group of people decide that peanut butter is bad for you. No one has the right to take it off the shelf. Now if they smear it on your new couch. Kick their butts then take them to small claims court for a new couch.
But all the threats and jumping up and down. You can waste all the tax dollars you want to. But you will never ever stop someone that wants to do these things.
It's sad to watch them hurt themselves like that. But no amount of crying and begging stopped my Dad from drinking too much. And that was legal, go figure. I finally figured out it was his choice. He chose that over family. And it was NOT my fault. I still loved him. But had to just sit back quietly and watch him walk his own path of distruction. You just cannot force your will on other people.

((((Whisper))) you are sooo right... after years of watching my parents abuse drugs heck at one point well a couple points in my life i figured it i can't help thme then i'll join them and even went down that same road they did... it took my mom giving me a home video tape of fliming herself 'shoot up with a needle' and about 30 days of me going to jail to realize that's not the life my kids asked for and it's not the life i WANTED! soo, i just watch them slowly kill their self by abusing drugs.. i have even backed out of trying to correct their wrongs.. ex. my mom has 5 beautiful white children but after years of teaching us to stay in our own race she decided in her 6th or 7th trip to rehab that a black man is what she wants in her life so she never came back to care for her remaining babies who are still not old enough to fend for their self.. so, i'm with you!! the war against drugs will NEVER BE WON! so let these crack headed needle pushing people slowly kill themselves... it's their decison...

butter, Has anyone ever told you what a little darling you are? Child, if I were your grandma, I would be so proud of you. Just like a little buttercup...delicate, beautiful, resilient! You are like a breath of fresh air! It's hard to imagine all the tradgies you have gone through and yet you still bounce around with such vitality and seemingly with a smile on your face. THANK YOU for trying so hard to raise your children correctly and giving them better that what you had. Your blessing will be to watch them go up to be fine adults that live the good life. We all love you.

awe!! ya'll making me ***blush*** haha!!! i'm not no angel that's by far!! and my grandma was pretty fed up with me before i left to move down to the coast... :( haha!! and i'm not all nice and peaches and cream with a huge smile on my face 24/7 haha! i just like to 'BS' and even though i have (heck we all have had 'experiences') learned some life leasons that's what they are lessons.. either can either learn from them OR you can experience them for youself then make your decision on if that's what you want.. hahaha! my rebel butt took the experience way to learn! i'm still learning, so in the mean time why not 'cut the rug' tell my story now and then and hopefully some other child or young adult will maybe read them and say wow... let me stay in school or let me do it better then this crazy female haha!! :)

not to mention the aclu is suing everybody or institution (public) that mentions god or jesus! so what u expect if the children didn't learn the morals and other things that were in place when our generation was going to school. no more under god or whatever and some stopped going to church and things like that I mean u got churchs defending gay rights and people like myself (conserative-progressive) as I like to say think its something wrong with that so its a lot of things in society I've seen that I just can't believe are happening but I've moved from natchez so its everywhere that's changing natchez has a small problem compared to what's really going on! and sometimes nathcez is so historic that people gotta remember the world is steady changing around them. natchez might stay the same but u gotta decide whether u want to stay in natchez and stay a "historic" person or move on with everybody else. basically! and I do applaud natchez sometimes on its conserative ways because being from there I also see how mordern society or so ann coulter calls them "liberals" do things that have a negative imapct on moral standards such as allowing gay marriages and such...etc....so I support conserative ways which I just flat out call "american tradition" so screw conserative ways because som things they say I mean are just american tradition to me...and I support progressive ideas...
