Alcorn state hopes to derail JSU

Published Thursday, November 15, 2007

LORMAN — The Alcorn State University Braves’ look to thwart Jackson State’s hopes at a SWAC Eastern division title Saturday at the 15th Annual Capital City Classic at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson at 1 p.m.

The Tigers can clinch their spot in the SWAC championship game with a win.

Alcorn (2-7, 2-6 SWAC) has won the previous four Capital City Classics and Braves coach Johnny Thomas hopes his team can make it five in a row.

“It’s going to be a dog-eat-dog, fight, fight, fight, don’t give up, hit against hit, do whatever you’ve got to do to win a football game,” Thomas said in the game’s press conference on Tuesday. “That’s the way it’s going to be and that’s the way we’re going to approach it.”

Both teams are coming off close losses.

Alcorn fell 24-20 to east contender Alabama A&M. The Braves had five turnovers and nine penalties for 157 yards.

Chris Walker came in for the injured Tony Hobson early in the third quarter completing 12 of 26 passes for 168 yards, two interceptions and a touchdown.

JSU (6-4, 6-2 SWAC) had a chance seal the east against Prairie View A&M but the Tigers were slowed by penalties and the inability to defend the long pass to fall 30-27.

Prairie View A&M scored all of their four touchdowns on passes of 20 or more yards.

Because of the stakes, Thomas said he expects it to be one of the best Capital City Classics in recent memory.

“This Capital City Classic is going to be one of the best ever,” Thomas said. “There is a lot riding on this for both programs.”

If you KNEW the JSU history, you would KNOW when this group commenced. Also, Are you speaking of the Grambling Tigers? I never heard of them being referred to Bengals, in any fashion.

No I'm speaking of the LSU Tigers!!! By the way, give me some history on the group and what they stand for. It’s always puzzle me why would schools or support groups, give themselves alias names to go by. Is not the school's name enough? Is it once you graduation, you are now a Bengal instead of a tiger? Well it does really matter because we will be 3-7 after tomorrow, GO Braves!!!

Oh, uh, I believe you are 2-8 now. LOL. AHAHAHAHA

Oh uh, and here is a brief definition of what a BENGAL tiger is, below. No one changed the name, we are still and will be the Jackson State University Tigers, out of Jackson, MS, in tow, the Sonic Boom of the South! The Blue Bengal club, is just that, it is an association within the football program at JSU, like a booster club for them, I am confident you know what that means as well. Another important tidbit, JSU was also the basketball SWAC champions, last year. Grambling is a good team, they always had a good program, but we will see in Birmingham, just who is, the greater Tiger!

bengal tiger

noun
southern short-haired tiger

You can do like we did, those four years we lost to Alcorn, we had an idiot in by the name of Bell. You all should start a web-site like we did and get the alumni to really talking, if you really want to get your coach out. You are correct in the fan attendance, actually boosts the program. If Alcorn is still selling tickets, to their loosing streaks, then there is no reason to really look into changing the coach. Under Bell, we had one of the most arrogant, self-serving coaches that did not want to listen to anyone, but himself. The JSU football program really suffered under that nut, but looks like the Comegy reign, will be a good one.

So, now you guys are confirming the sub-species of your mascot, how significant. It takes a mastermind for such creativity; it’s like calling the NO Saints the New Orleans Baptist Saints. Enjoy your victory, because next year things will get back to normal and you guys will have to face reality again. The Alcorn State Braves!!! Go Braves!!! And as far as the hardwood goes we shall see!!!

Posted by Teach4Peace (anonymous) on November 19, 2007 at 10:57 a.m. (Suggest removal)

We shall see my friend, we shall see. Although I extremely doubt it! Sorry, maybe you guys will get it right next year!

31-19, THIS YEAR.
