Ferriday’s Matthew Smith races around the corner against Sterlington earlier this season. The Trojans will look to advance past the second round of the playoffs when they host St. John tonight. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Ferriday must play better to avoid second round loss

Published Friday, November 16, 2007

FERRIDAY — The 11-0 Ferriday Trojans look to continue their remarkable season tonight when they host the 9-2 St. John Eagles.

“St. John is a very fundamentally sound team,” Ferriday head coach said. “They have been through some wars and been tested. They know how to win.”

The Trojans are coming off a less than perfect 20-6 win against Red River last week.

Trojan quarterback Kendrick Harris had problems passing, completing just two passes and throwing three interceptions.

Harrison said they have put last week behind them and they had done a lot of work this week on correcting the miscues.

“We found a way to win last week,” Harrison said. “We’ve done some work on offense this week but the main thing I want them to do is go out and have fun. When they do that, they play much better.”

St. John head coach Bruce Hoffman said Ferriday’s offense would be a challenge for them and stopping Harris would be the key to stopping them.

“Ferriday’s stud is their quarterback,” Hoffman said. “If it’s throwing the ball or running the ball, we have to keep him under control.”

The Trojans’ speed may be a problem for the Eagles Hoffman said.

“They have a lot of speed on both sides of the ball,” Hoffman said. “Speed has been something that has given us problems. We’ll have to make adjustments depending on how the game goes.”

The Eagles offense is anchored by their running game. They use a number backs to carry the load.

Running back Roddarick Jones leads the team with 838 yards on 91 carries. Spenser and T.J. Williams combined for 562 yards on the ground this season.

“Their running backs are playmakers,” Harrison said. “Our defense has to play very well to contain their scheme. Our philosophy is the same this week as it has been all year long. If we are going to bleed, we’re going to bleed slow.”

St. John put up 379 yards rushing in their win 46-44 against Loyola. Jones had 156 yards and quarterback Galen Johnson rushed for a team leading 168 yards. Johnson also threw for 201 yards.

“The quarterback is a big kid at 6’2, 210 pounds,” Harrison said. “They are straight forward in what they do. We are going to have to execute our scheme, make plays and play hard to stop them.”

Hoffman said he didn’t want the scoring to get out of hand like it did against Loyola and the game depended more on his defense making stops than his offense scoring.

“The key to us winning the game is our defense stopping Ferriday’s offense,” he said. “They tend to put up points fast and we’re not built like that.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

waaaaah

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 9:53 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I was, but I'm back now. I just cut all of the bushes out in front of the office with hand pruners. My arms are shaking now!

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 9:54 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I cut them down to the ground. Some of them were entirely too big around for tiny pruners. I'm not dressed for that today, either!

Hey myo. How are you?

Posted by myopinion (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 12:49 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I am sore from all the cleaning I had to do at this place yesterday. It took me 4 hours to get it all done. I don't understand why men are so messy!

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 12:52 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Me, either! I need to clean here, but I'm not going to today! So do you like the new hair?

Posted by myopinion (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:06 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Yes, I do. One of my bosses asked me why I got in a fight with a bottle of peroxide! How nice was that. My hubby likes it which makes it even better. I am still waiting on the final opinion from the family which I will get tomorrow.

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:08 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I had the same problem with the guys at work when I went blonde! They are so used to it now that I never hear anything anymore. My grandmother and aunt told me they liked me better as a brunette, but most everyone else likes it better blonde. I like it better and that's what counts! Did you get it cut different, too or just colored?

Posted by myopinion (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:27 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I just had it highlighted.

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Oh. I've never had mine highlighted because it grows too fast and I'm too cheap to go back that often!

Posted by myopinion (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:32 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Mine grows really slow. If it gets to the point where I can't afford it I will dye it bacl to the orginal color. Or as close as I can get.

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:36 p.m. (Suggest removal)

The problem with mine is that it has too much gray in it!!! Original isn't good for me!

Posted by thetruthhurts (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:36 p.m. (Suggest removal)

WAAAHHH I want to NOT be busy today....... what are you guys doin?

Posted by myopinion (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:37 p.m. (Suggest removal)

We are discussing the pros and cons of hair color. What are yoiu doing today?

Posted by thetruthhurts (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:38 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I agree with the too cheap comment! I use to highlight it, but I think I could get a hair cut every 2 weeks!!

Posted by thetruthhurts (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I have had to balance everybody in lincoln counties checkbook I think!! Always happens this time of year... Will get worse. People can't believe they spend so much during Christmas, before they know it..... You guys be very careful with your debit cards..... Walmart and Murphy oil's data base got hacked into and there have been fradulent debit purchases at all the banks..... they are occuring in Florida. Keep an eye on your accounts.

Posted by myopinion (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:42 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I went almost an entire year w/out a hair cut. Not even a trim. It grew a total of about 3 inches, if that much. My hair grows really slow. I go every two weeks to have my nails filled in anyway. I just go ahead and get my hair done while I am there.

Posted by thetruthhurts (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:48 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Girl... I have never paid for a nail job.... I count money so much, that I would have to paint them everyday and touch them up all day during.... My nails grow long and strong on their own, I just go bare.... I am way tooo cheap for the nail jobs.... lol Plus in the summer and spring I would tear them off in my gardens or cutting my pastures and get mad at the waste of money.... LMAO

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:53 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Me, too truth! I rarely ever polish mine. The last time I did was probably 6 years ago. I work in the yard too much to keep them. Besides, I like to shop and that is just more money for me to shop with! I need a hair cut every 3-4 weeks, but I usually only get one about every two months (or until I can't take it anymore). I color it myself and cut it myself (between hair appointments). Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go more often, I'm just too cheap! You go myo, you should do that if it makes you feel good.

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 1:54 p.m. (Suggest removal)

By the way, thanks for the debit card info! I usuall use mine at wal-mart. How long has this been going on? Should I not use it for a while or what?

Posted by thetruthhurts (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 2:05 p.m. (Suggest removal)

no it hasnt been long. middle of last week.... and if you have used it there before, it is already too late.... just keep a close eye on your debit charges. you have 72 hours to dispute a debit charge when you know you didn't do it. The president here got hit, lots of customers, and lots of people from tmark and statebank. it's been a mess.... and it takes 7 days max after you report it to get your money back..... it is for odd amounts like 72.32 at a gas station in florida or 31.40 at winn dixie in florida.... its odd amounts so maybe you will just say yeah I probably did that and don't remember.....BE CAREFUL

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 2:07 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Thanks alot. I always keep a close eye on my account anyway. I'm one of those anal people that wants everything to the penny!

hey chickies!!!!! i just got to get on for the first time today and the fools have gotten the Lipsey story shut down, of course. lol. they have to do it every time. got both of your emails and will be sending one, or more, to you both when he is done for the day. i can't play on here when he's really busy. was wondering where you were yesterday eagles. that must have been a b***** (i can do that when we're hiding out) for you when you had to go back to work with your niece. bet she's so cute. i love babies.

Hi peace. Yes, it wasn't pleasant yesterday. I did at least have fun with her last night, though. She is adorable! I get her as often as I can. Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving. I won't be at work until Monday, but I do check my e-mail and the Democrat several times a day. Of course, I still have an hour before I'm free today!
Yes, that Lipsey/Maxwell thing has me curious. This is the third article about that, that has been shut down. I wonder why. They rarely ever do that on other articles. I wonder if Maxwell knows someone? I still think they should investigate that to the fullest (the voter fraud). I don't live over there and don't know either candidate, so it doesn't matter to me who wins. I would like to know if any of those voters that live in Mississippi vote in both places. If so, how do we know it wouldn't affect our elections also? Ok, I'm thinking too hard for a (sort of) Friday!

Posted by thetruthhurts (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 3:06 p.m. (Suggest removal)

she is a doll..... and my thought on the shutting down those articles??? Is is politics..... its usually dirty, somebodys hand is usually in somebody elses pocket, and it is VERY controversial.......

Hey peace..... And eagles, you like to keep a close eye on your account because you are a tight wad like me!!!! lol

Very true, truth!

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 3:17 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Actually, I don't know if I would consider myself a "tight wad", because I love to shop and do buy things I don't REALLY need. I guess I would be more likely to consider myself.....oh Hell, I'm obssesive/compulsive. It is what it is!!! I like to spend money, just on certain things and I like to research anything I buy and make sure I get the best deal. Ok, maybe I am a tight wad!

Posted by thetruthhurts (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 3:20 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I just feel like I work too hard for my money... and I wanta know where every cent goes... LOL I refuse to pay full price for any kinda clothes, cause the next week it will be half off and I will be pissed off.... I check and recheck to make sure I get a good deal too... so.... AINT NOTHING WRONG WITH US TIGHT WADS!!

Posted by eagles (anonymous) on November 21, 2007 at 3:21 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I'm not sure though, because I do tend to be free with my money when I have some extra. I would love to spend it, but like to enjoy it, too. I all of my own housework, yardwork and wash and wax my own car because I see no reason to pay someone to do something I am capable of doing myself. I also fix things if I can (water lines, toilets, patch holes in sheetrock, etc.!). Man, I sound like a lesbian! (Except for the shopping part).

What do you mean? I've been listening to Def Leppard, Led Zepplin, Journey and now Joe Walsh. Don't talk about "old".

By the way, I do remember that song. I've also thoroughly enjoyed the music I've heard today! I caught myself bouncing in my desk to Def Leppard! I love "Pour Some Sugar on Me"!!!

I understand your Dad's theory on the plants. I like to have pretty things to look at, but I don't like too many vegetables. My Mom and Grandma grow okra, peppers and tomotoes, but I only eat the okra (and ONLY if it's fried!). I like potatoes, corn and black eyed peas. That's about all as far as vegetables go. Yeah, I know I ain't right. I'm not sure if I ever was, though!
