Trolley is great addition to Vidalia

Published Tuesday, October 16, 2007

I think Vidalia is monumentally worthy of acclaim for its innovative and forward thinking accomplishments, most evidenced by what we see looking from the Natchez side of the river. Go, Vikings.

Now we have even more to look forward to with its purchase of the Natchez Trolley. Soon it will be shuffling bodies up and down the Riverfront, stopping and dropping at points in between. Bam! That sounds like a hoot and holler to me. What we have here, folks, is something useful with a quite a little desirable by-product called fun! What usually happens when useful and fun collide? I think it’s called “a winner! “

I loved riding the trolley when it was over here and looking across the river — even before the landscape got spectacular. And then one day, kind of like the Oldsmobile Aurora, it was gone. But now, thanks Vidalia, I can ride it over there and look over here.

Mayor Hyram Copeland and company, I have just one small request. Could you please let it run at night, too, maybe on special occasions? I volunteer to be the conductor and lead the singing. “We were sailing along, on Moonlight Bay . . .

I wish that trolley had been on the river front today after I opened one of those doors of the porta johns at the carnival and decided to walk down to the tourist center to try out their new facilities. Problem with that is the tourist center wasn't open and there was no outside restroom, and the sidewalk ended. So I crawled over the fence and continued on down and over to the medical facility, but when I got there, there was a sign on the door...no public restrooms. So huffing and puffing I continued on past the water spouts to the public restroom facility. Ahhhh, success. After that I had to walk back to the carnival and sit in my car with the air conditioner blowing full force until I could get my heart beat to slow down and become regular.
