Three barges are hung on the Mississippi River bridges as a result of Monday nights barge accident. Watch »
NATCHEZ — Later today an attempt will be made to retrieve three barges entangled on the pylons of the Mississippi River Bridge.
At approximately 9 p.m. Monday night a fleet of barges struck the bridge, while most floated downstream, three remained hung-up on the bridge’s pylons.
Vidalia Dock and Storage’s port captain Travis Morace said a tugboat will be used to wrangle and free the tangled barges.
Coast Guard Lt. Teresa Hatfield said of the 24 loose barges on the river all but one has been accounted for.
Its whereabouts are still unknown.

Hope someone had the decency to alert other towns on the river south of here.

Good thing it didn't hit the buildings on Vidalia side. In the picutre it looks like the water is all the way to the building, hard to tell all the way in New Mexico!

How is one still "not accounted for". Seems like a plane or helicopter should have been in the air first thing this morning. Also, what about other barges traveling the river. You would think they would notice an unattended barge floating south.

Unless of course it has floated up in some backwaters.

They may have to wait for low water to find the missing barge!!

I just walked down Silver Street and it is so bizzare looking with the two barges wrapped around the bridge.
Has anyone seen a sign, handwritten, that says " Big Gator down there, watch your kids and pets!" It is across from the saloon.

Probably just a scare tactic to keep any more idiots from letting their kids wade in the water. Could be true, though. I'm sure there are plenty of them in that water.

I'm confused. I thought there were three barges stuck on the pylon? Did they get one out already?

I only saw 2 froggie. And Yeah I thought it must've just been a scare tactic too but I moved along quickly just in case.

I don't blame you! I would have, too. If there were three barges to start with and only two now, is the third one the one that's not accounted for? Did it sink or get loose? Who knows? I wonder if they have been able to free them yet.

There are gators (and water moccasins) I've seen them over at the RV park across the Mighty Muddy Mississip. One was approximately 7 feet in length and one was about 4 feet long. In regards to the snakes -- Cottonmouths are in abundance, especially in Vidalia. I killed one in my back yard and one beside the levee and understand that someone lost two dogs as a result of snake bites. Do be careful where you tread!!!!

sayitloud, you are a snake are you biting anyone. Snakes are sneaky and dirty and stinky just like sayitloud and their family..dirty little snake.

Snakes are not dirty and stinky, nor are they sneaky. You, snatchez, know nothing about snakes or sayitloud. What brought all that on anyway? She is entitled to her own opinion, as are you and I. Get a grip or get gone.

800skeptic...don't say that stuff too loud...you'll have PETA swarming like the gators and snakes.
