Natchez Regional nearing a long-term plan
Published Tuesday, April 29, 2008
NATCHEZ — After months of uncertainty about the future of Natchez Regional Medical Center attorney Walter Brown said the board is only weeks away from receiving plans for the short and long-term future of the hospital.
Brown, the hospital’s attorney, said within approximately two weeks the board should be presented with a comprehensive plan from newly appointed CEO Scott Phillips that will guide the hospital through bankruptcy and into long-term planning.
At Monday’s board meeting Phillips presented findings from his first two weeks of leadership at the hospital.
While Phillips and Brown said they were unable to elaborate on exactly what those findings were, Phillips said the meeting was “very up beat and positive.”
Board member Dan Bland called the meeting a cause for optimism.
Bland said during the meeting the board also received a more accurate view of the hospital’s financial situation.
Bland said the hospital’s financial state was “not as bad as he thought.”
While the hospital is still planning to file for bankruptcy Bland said it will not likely happen for at least 30 days.
While the future plan for NRMC might not be fully realized for weeks, the board and leadership of the hospital were all “very optimistic,” after Monday’s meeting Bland said.
“We’re making a plan to move toward the future,” Phillips said.
In recent months the hospital board was given approval to declare Chapter 9 bankruptcy from Gov. Haley Barbour after learning the hospital was in financial distress.
In response to the hospital’s problems the board also voted to terminate their contract with their management company Quorum Health Resources.

"Natchez Regional nearing a long-term plan"! I sure hope they are! Haven't we spent enough money on this hospital just trying to figure out if there is anything that can be done? Hurry up and do SOMETHING! I am almost sick of hearing about how my tax dollers get flushed when idiots get hired to handle stuff in this town!

sparky, no tax money is spent on the hospital. it has never received one penny from the county. So get your facts straight before you run your mouth.

What happened to the layoffs someone stated would happen Monday? Another rumor no doubt.

Is Dan Bland not the Chairperson of the Board anymore?

They must've realized that man is too old to be the Chairperson.

Please, Please people....learn the spelling of MORON!! It only makes the rest of us laugh when you mispell it and when your are actually using it to try to label someone else as stupid or ignorant.
And....I am NOT one of those "spelling police" type of posters. I simply cannot bear seeing anyone else on this site spelling that particular word incorrectly anymore. Also, there are plenty more good "insult" words in the dictionary. Look 'em up. Imbecile, Idiot, Dum Dum, Dummy, Dumbell, etc. Use some imagination.

Oh, here's another one for you....Airhead.
Only an Airhead would label Dan a moron. Sure, you can probably call him many things (possibly many unkind things) but anything relating to a lack of intellligence sure as Heck aint one of them.
Even those who may revile him will readily agree that he could outsmart most people. Plus, the man has a HEART bigger than Natchez. IF you don't know this, then you don't know him.

Oh please!! Stop all the name calling. Do we really wonder why our kids behave the way they do??? You are exactly right snatchez....not one cent of tax payers money has gone to NRMC...so sparky your dollars must be getting flushed somewhere else....

Not one cent? Wait until this debacle unfolds, the loss in tax dollars?, employees pay checks, insurance, vendors income, they are all taxed, and everything else that is bought and sold at this hospital, taxes not directly but indirectly will be hit hard by such a few not doing their job. Wait and see what you say when your taxes are raised to cover this mess. Taxes are not effected or spent at this hospital? Yeah right.
