FERRIDAY — Members of the Ferriday Garden Club met recently at the Concordia Parish Library with Director Amanda Taylor to plan Marjorie Vogt Day.
The Ferriday Garden Club, the Town of Ferriday and the Concordia Parish Library Board have joined to celebrate the life and service of Vogt, and Saturday has been set aside as a day of acknowledging Vogt, wife of Dr. Eugene Vogt and a resident of Ferriday since 1947.
The public is invited to attend a ceremony in her honor from 10 a.m. until noon at the Ferriday Branch of the Concordia Parish Library. Refreshments will be served.
Among her many civic contributions is her membership of the Concordia Parish Library Board since 1991 on which she served as board president for two years.
Currently she is a representative to the Northeast Trustee Trail Blazer Board of Commissioners, a post she has had since 2002.
An active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Vogt has served as past president of the Altar Society, supervisor of floral decorations during special events and is active in fundraising for the church.
Vogt is a member of the Ferriday Chamber of Commerce and, through her beautification efforts, continues to assist the town in clean-ups to improve the community. She has served as grand marshal for the Ferriday Christmas Parade and serves on the Historical Preservation Committee.
She assists Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office in supervising and planting the gardens at the correctional facilities and served on the committee to refurbish the courthouse grounds.
In the Ferriday Garden Club Vogt has had every club office and willingly advises new officers when called upon.
She has worked on the Beautification Committee for many years and encourages other garden club members to participate.
She has served as Cleanest City chairman and still helps beautify the community with her gardening skills and was recently recognized by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation publication in its Circle of Roses.
