Rivera arrested for second time in one month

Published Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Baytown — For the second time in less than one month John Rivera has been arrested.

On Monday afternoon Rivera was arrested at his fuel development facility in Baytown, Texas and charged with theft.

Over the past few years Rivera has worked as chairman or CEO of several companies that claim to make biofuel.

His most current venture is in Baytown.

Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Donald Gray said Rivera was charged with felony theft of between $1,500 and $20,000.

Gray said the arrest originated from an incident in January in which Rivera allegedly stole five metal mixing tanks from a fellow biofuel developer.

Gray said Rivera allegedly purchased biofuel from developer Helmut Gass and had some dispute over the product, then stole the tanks.

Neither Gass nor Rivera’s attorney, Scott McLemore, could be reached for comment.

Gray said as Rivera was brought to the station his bond was being paid and that he spent very little time in custody.

“He got out fairly quick,” Gray said.

No trial date has been set yet.

In late July, Rivera was arrested in Texas on charges of grand theft above $20,000.

That arrest originated from a warrant issued in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Officials there have not released any information in that arrest.

And last week Rivera was in an Adams County courtroom to face charges that he defrauded investor Mark Trevisiol.

In that case, Trevisiol testified that after providing Rivera with bridge funding to keep is fuel development facility in Port Gibson running, Rivera never shared in the profits.

A settlement in that case is not expected for approximately one month.

Rivera first came to the Miss-Lou in 2006 claiming his revolutionary new process would create biofuel.

He later opened a production facility at the Adams County Port, but never produced any fuel.

This is America... Innocent until proven guilty...

it must be really sad to have nothing better to do in Natchez Mississippi then to have front page stories about one single man...

sammahon, your gonna have to slack up on braggin about Rivera. Seems like he can,t stay out of lawsuits and jail long enough to run the zillion dollar Rentech at the old IPCO plant. Course all have dipped in the funds and got their piece of the pie so it,s time to look around for some more peeps to invest in his next rolly polly whatever.

texasranger...your comment proves a couple of things about you...First, you can't spell and know very little about grammar, punctuation and syntax...Second, you are woefully ill-informed.

My last name is spelled "Mohon" not "Mahon"...it should be "you're" not "your"...it should be "can't" not "can,t"...not to mention all the other marginally lliterate errors you've made in countless other nonsensical rants in the past.

I have never bragged or even commented to my recollection on Rivera...additionally, he has absolutely NOTHING in common with Rentech except the idea of making synthetic fuel...he was never part of Rentech and owned another completely different company that was involved in the lawsuits and his other legal troubles. So far, Rentech has proved to be a responsible corporation delivering on it's promises and I've only said I hope that they are successful and continue to uphold their promises.

Next time, if you don't know what you're talking about which seems to always be the case, keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool rather than opening it and removing all doubt.

Rentech is NOT Rivera. He was going to start up U.S. Sustainable Resources. Lots of hype - no output. Two totally different entities.

WOW! SAM (sammohon ) WAY TO GO I,M GLAD TO SEE SOMEONE WHO SAYS WHAT THEY MEAN AND MEAN WHAT THEY SAY! NOT ONLY THAT YOU ARE HONEST AND PUT YOUR NAME TOO. WAY TO GO SAM!!!!

Thank you James...texasranger is a well known, only partially literate bomb thrower...I prefer more civil discussions. BTW, use upper and lower case...all upper case makes people think you're shouting.

Anonymity IMHO is cowardice, but be wary should you decide to emulate me, using your own name is rather dangerous...your wife and daughter, if you have them will say "but I've got to live here too" although my son admires my "willingness to stand up"...you get both good and bad commentary on the street...heckling phone calls as well as phone calls from people trying to give you an "attaboy or to ask you to speak in their behalf because they can't or won't"...you get accusations and name calling like "you're just a smarta$$" or you're "an arrogant SOB" or as one lady told me "you're a breath of fresh air"...now I don't know what kind of air she was breathing or for that matter what some of these folks were smoking, but you also get a reputation for being, well, honest, that can help or hurt you, but I'll take my chances...I guess I could never be a politician...LOL

Thank you again for your kind comments.

OGD...fully appreciate your point of view...I was simply stating mine...still want to invite you to sit on the porch and have that mint julep we talked of some time ago, but I don't know who you are...LOL.

Natchez Democrat's posting is out of sync again...sorry, but not my job man!

I just don't understand the postings. Mine was originally posted before sam's first post, then moved down with the wrong time! Makes me feel like I'm Alice in Wonderland here.

Sam, I can completely understand your point of view. I posted with my real name on some professional boards and there were a few unbalanced people there now and then. But I considered it important to use my own name. In THIS place however, there are some outright psychos and your "heckling phone calls" substantiate it. Further more, much of this board is local. Maybe once I'm retired I'll have the time to sit on the porch and guard the house. Until then, I really don't consider the anonymity cowardice so much as me saying "I don't have time for this schtuff". But on the other side, whenever it has come down to the stuff that really mattered, I have posted with my name and will continue to do so.

No post from Dynahog yet? He seems to be Rivera's defender on this site. I wonder what the real story behind Rivera is?

sammahon, before you go ranting and blabbering about someone's use of "grammar, punctuation and syntax," you might want to check your own.

For instance: "Rentech has proved to be a responsible corporation delivering on it's promises and I've only said I hope that they are successful and continue to uphold their promises." (1) "it's" translates to "it is". The correct usage there is "its". (2) Nice run-on sentence Mr. Grammar: "Rentach has proved to be a responsible corporation delivering on it's [sic] promises" is a completely independent sentence. If you are going to join it with another independent sentence of "I hope that they are successful and continue to uphold their promises," you might want to either join them with a conjunction, or just make them separate with periods. There are plenty other mistakes throughout all of your posts, but I think you get my point.

Not to mention, you then feel as though you are now the "Grammar King" of this site, so you tell someone else not to type in all caps. What gives?

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on August 20, 2008 at 10:20 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Well nobody pulled my ring, but Sam if you backed down two or three clicks on the grammar, spelling and syntax standards you would have more subject and less fluff to argue about. It's usually easy to get a meaning to chew on, and the medium carries with it some typing and thinking mistakes. But I respect the tactic in general of attacking opinion based on the form that carries it. You didn't need it on the rebuttal you delivered.

You are right though about texasranger -- no offense Tex. He was confused about Rentech, and some of his comments in other threads have been brutish. He stuck his neck out with his comments and you were right to deliver the axe.

I will take issue with your blanket prohibition about anonymity, though.

Everything being signed with real names in a local forum dilutes honest opinion with social propriety, and the most true and most controversial things get shorted. The chill that puts on communication is profound.

I feel it is better to sort through the questionable and verify independently than to muzzle the truth and have it invisible.

The standard of signed comment does favor conservative ethic proliferation and the power status quo, though, if a bit dishonestly. That works fine for arguing conservative ideologues in ideological matters, or for folks who would like to make sure people have to stand vulnerable to reprisal if they leak a secret about a local official.

For most folks a rose is still a rose by another name, the truth is the truth, and if this medium allows some enlarged measure of sincerity or spontaneity there is no reason to screw it up for ego.

There are plenty of things I would never say on here with my name directly attached, and quite a few that cannot be said with the thin veil of a handle. And those things worth being cautious about are frequently the most in need of saying.

I WILL ALSO AGREE ON THIS --- WHEN FOLKS TYPE IN ALL CAPS IT IS LIKE THEY ARE IGNORANT OF THE LANGUAGE, THE KEYBOARD, OR THEY ARE YELLING LOUDLY. AND THANKS FOR MENTIONING THAT. BUT PRESIDENT OBAMA WILL BE OLDER THAN JOHN MCCAIN BEFORE EVERYBODY ACCEPTS THAT AS TRUE.

He,he!

dreamchaser,

Last time I checked, the time frame between July 30 and August 18 is less than one month. Just because it was not in the same named month does not mean that a month time period has not gone by.

I see nothing wrong with calling a crook a crook. Good for the ND.

yep, if it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, etc........

it's a duck

if you steal you are a thief

thieves go to jail - Rivera belongs in jail.

It took a Texan to put him where he belongs. God Bless Texas, and Mississippi too.

Shorts...I certainly didn't intend to become the "Spelling Police" or "Grammar King" lord knows I make my share of errors as you so graciously pointed out...I was simply trying to illustrate how ignorant texasranger is on so many levels including use of the English Language to express his even greater factual and informational ignorance. He started a gunfight and only brought a knife to it...I showed up with a cannon.

I stand corrected for my errors, take full responsibility for them, and don't have the arrogance to expect anyone, my self included, to be perfect...by the way you misspelled Rentech when quoting my run on sentence...LOL.

Posted by sammohon (anonymous) on August 20, 2008 at 8:21 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Yeahuhuh...my commentary about about texasrangers spelling, etc. was limited and had a purpose directly related to the issue at hand. See my message to Shorts above.

I understand your points about anonymity and I choose not to be...you and everyone else are, of course, perfectly free to make a different choice.

How, in the wide world of sports, is it advantageous to conservatives and dishonest to say what you mean, mean what you say and do it with your name attached? Are you saying that liberals must for some reason hide their faces and speak in hushed tones to avoid reprisal? That's just patently silly. I think that if you can't stand by your comments you shouldn't utter them at all. The truth isn't restrained except by those who haven't the courage to stand by it.

THE CAPS THING WAS A WORD OF ADVICE TO AN APPARENTLY INEXPERIENCED BLOGGER, IT WASN'T MEANT TO CHASTISE...IT HAS LONG BEEN COMPUTER ETIQUETTE NOT TO SCREAM WHEN TYPING.

As for McCain's age vs. Obama's...I heard a good one today:

Would you like to save the US 5 million dollars? The president's current pension following departure from office is $191,300.00 per year until the age of 80. When John McCain leaves office he will be 80 or over, thus receiving no pension. Obama, on the other hand, would receive 26 years of pension payments following two terms. That's a whopping $4,973,800.00. It certainly makes economic sense for America to elect McCain.

How's that for non-partisan thinking?

Sheriff Billy Ferrell said oncet that they were people in the county he didn,t bother or fool with. In whateva punch or typin you put it i understood what he was saying. So if you put your name on here everytime you made a statement. Their might be some powerful people that might take a hard line or be very offended by your comments. It might would land you in a big mud puddle that your four wheel drive or even a D-9 Caterpillar might not pull you out of. So i guess it might be best to just voice your opinion because we all have that right in here. I,m always okay with most of it except when i make mistakes, but we all are human and fall and lose our way. Posting your name in a small southern town behind all your comments might not be your best choice in the long haul, unless your Superman or stay in a Bradley tank 24 hrs.a day, 7 days a week. Oh yeah, i like this wroom anywho cause most folks don,t spell worth a squat in here anyways..

texasranger don't ever kid yourself that you are anonymous. You have an IP address which is recorded each time you log onto a website and it is specific to you. While most people who make comments may not know who you are, there are always some who do know. The next time you go out to eat at a restaurant, they may be sitting at the next table...or behind you at the picture show. They might call you on the telephone and ask for a donation, or knock on your door pretending to be at the wrong house. You can bet on it that you are not anonymous to everyone, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they want to hurt you.

SamMo in that case Hillary should have been nominated so we could save money by not having to pay for more secret service for her and her spouse, as they are already being protected.

Everybody will hurt you in some way if they get the chance.
Even your own kind. None of us are sure what tomorrow brings. I never said i was anonymous i just said sometimes the mud puddle is full of real sticky mud. I kinda follow along Billys lines. It,s always better to run your racing motor fuel ratio fat,so if the person delivering gas to Walmart is some half asleep guy and puts regular gas in the premium gas tank,You think your pumping 93 octane but it,s really 87 and it runs lean you won,t burn up your racing motor.Sort of a safety net, kinda sorta, sorta kinda.
