Bar wants agreement
Published Thursday, August 21, 2008
VIDALIA — City officials have asked them to do so, but the owners of Danny’s Lounge in Vidalia have not started to voluntarily shut the bar down at 2 a.m.
Co-owner Danny White Jr. said that is because all of the owners — several family members — want a formal agreement with the city.
“I would rather have an agreement than this going back and forth between us,” White said.
The Vidalia Board of Aldermen made the request that the proprietors close the bar at 2 a.m. at their August meeting.
Last Saturday, the club shut down between 3 and 3:30 a.m., and there were a number of Vidalia police officers there at the request of the owners, Police Chief Tapper Hendricks said.
“They didn’t shut down until after 3 a.m., but the police presence probably ran a bunch (of people) off,” Hendricks said.
The police have received more than 20 complaints related to the bar in the last eight months, ranging from criminal mischief and drug violations to carrying of weapons, aggravated battery, shootings, purse snatchings, shots fired and hit-and runs.
But White said many of the incidents connected to the bar do not, in fact, have any connection to the bar.
“Any night we are open they want to blame anything that happens in that area on us,” he said. “We have had some incidents, but most of it is bogus.”
Just because crime — whether drug-related or just loud music from a car — happens near somewhere does not mean that it is connected, White said.
“Someone could pull up at the city jailhouse and make a drug transaction,” he said.
Nonetheless, White said he would like more of a police presence near the nightclub to deter possible crime or disturbances.
“Someone isn’t going to pull out of a parking lot playing music really loud if they see the police,” he said.

This bar wants to negotiate a deal in writing?? HAHAHAHAHA
If Danny's wants Police Protection they should pay the city for extra officers to sit at that place, so that the regular shift can patrol and protect the rest of the city.

Certain types of people are drawn to certain types of atmospheres generated by certain types of bars. Perhaps Danny's could try a change in their decor and music?

From the article: (Just because crime — whether drug-related or just loud music from a car — happens near somewhere does not mean that it is connected, White said.
“Someone could pull up at the city jailhouse and make a drug transaction,” he said.)
LOL. I believe Mr. White has a little apples to oranges problem with his analogy here. Who is going to pull up to the city jailhouse and make a drug deal? It's all about the environment you foster, and apparently, Mr. White's establishment is a haven for criminal activity. I doubt if he had a church that held late night services that there would be any criminal activity going on.
On the other hand though: if the city of VIdalia wants this club to close down earlier, then they need to pass an ordinance of some sort asking him to shut it down early. You just can't ask people to do things when it's not in writing. I do believe in liberty and according to the current statutes, ordinances, law, etc., Mr. White is doing nothing illegal. If you want to change it, then change the legality of it. (Hope I am making sense. I just woke up and am still foggy-headed.)

I think the police should give them an agreement, To arrest anyone breaking the law including the owners.

The police being there is a good idea, but not at the tax payers expense. If they can't control what's going on they should have to close or hire security. Police officers have taken off duty jobs forever.

redusmfan, I'm trying to remember if "Birds of a feather flock together" is biblical.... I know its in common usage. But yes, I would think that if you throw out a different kind of bird food some new varieties might start flocking around. It certainly sounds like the owners are not happy with their situation and are asking police for help.

This should be the agreement
"Danny's bar agrees to be responsible for their customers at all times, when the customers are on the property owned by Danny White Jr and other owners.
The City of Vidalia agrees to provide police protection, Fire protection and other services, to the extent that the City of Vidalia provides to all other business's, persons, etc.
Furthermore, the City of Vidalia withholds the right to arrest, warn, issue citations, issue tickets, etc to any person acting illegally or with ill intent in and around Danny's bar."

Danny's owners want an agreement? Those ingrates should be thankful they haven't had their liquor license revoked and shut down. Danny's Lounge is clearly nothing more than a place were the worst rabble of society congregate.

O G D,
Origin
This proverb has been in use since at least the mid 16th century. In 1545 William Turner used a version of it in his papist satire The Rescuing of Romish Fox:
"Byrdes of on kynde and color flok and flye allwayes together."
It was more usual to refer to birds flying together than flocking together and many early citations use that form, for example Philemon Holland's translation of Livy's Romane historie, 1600:
"As commonly birds of a feather will flye together."
It is not biblical. In Daniel, the Bible talks about the time Nebuchadnezzar lost his mind for a while and he roamed teh fields like an animal and fluttered about like a bird. But that is the closest I have found when it comes to birds flocking in the Bible.
Red USM Fan.
