Franklin County works out kinks during jamboree

MEADVILLE — The Franklin County Bulldogs were able to work out some kinks in the Cellular South Football Classic jamboree Friday night in preparation for the season that begins next week.
The Bulldogs played one quarter against Vicksburg and one quarter against Port Gibson.
Franklin County lost to Vicksburg 7-6 and then defeated Port Gibson 14-0.
“There were some highlights and some things we have to get better at,” Franklin County coach Trent Hammond said. “The timing is still a bit rusty with the new offense we’re putting in and we’ve got to get more consistent play out of our defensive line.”
The defense was the highlight of the jamboree, as the only touchdown they allowed came after an interception that put Vicksburg at the 12-yard-line.
“They played well,” Hammond said. “Is it where you want it or at midseason form? No, but jamboree’s are sloppy.
“I was talking to a friend of mine who coaches at Taylorsville and was talking about how sloppy they played with interceptions and fumbles. We had that one interception where the ball hit our guy in the hands and was deflected in the air, but we didn’t have any other turnovers.”
Franklin County opens its season next Friday by hosting Hazlehurst.
