Woman turns in self in voter fraud case

Published Saturday, February 9, 2008

VIDALIA — Four years later and on the eve of the next election, the only person convicted in the Ferriday voter fraud scandal turned herself in to authorities Friday.

Henrietta M. Williams, 56, was convicted in 2006 of filing false public records after she filled out an absentee ballot for Maude Lee Williams during the 2004 Ferriday mayoral election.

Williams was not qualified on the rolls of handicapped voters who could receive assistance voting.

Williams was sentenced by Judge Sharon Marchman to five years in prison, but two-and-a-half of those years were suspended.

Though Williams fought the conviction all the way to the state Supreme Court, Marchman’s decision was ultimately upheld.

The high court heard the case after an appeals court upheld the conviction but asked for a reconsideration of the decision.

Six others were implicated in the voter fraud scandal — they were accused of tampering with absentee ballots — but all charges were eventually dropped against them.

Natchez Municipal Court Cases Friday, Jan. 11: Lisa D. Allen, 28, pleaded guilty to 20 misdemeanor counts of false pretense and five felony counts of false pretense. Sentenced to 30 concurrent days suspended for one year pending good behavior.

Why don,t they put these people in jail and leave them instead of every crime having a SUSPENED sentence the fine probably won,t ever be paid and they will just keep doing it over and over...

I don't know how she could have turned herself in. The Ferriday police are only interested in speeders and those not wearing seatbelts. Did you see the KNOE news yesterday about someone trying to get the cops attention to a drug pusher!!! Only to be arrested herself for interfearing with a seatbelt offender. what a zoo in Ferriday

Lisa Allen and Lisa Smith are TWO different people. Lisa Smith was arrested for trying to report a drug deal, Lisa Allen for whatever. Please remember not to start or spread rumors on here, they go like wildfire, and you are talking about real people.

Picked this up on the KNOE page also:

Texas Arrest Poses Problems for Jena 6 Defendant

JENA, La. (AP) - The recent arrest of a "Jena Six" defendant in connection with an altercation at his Dallas-area high school has his attorney a little worried.

Darrell Hickman, attorney for 19-year-old Bryant R. Purvis, said the arrest could complicate current plea negotiations with his case in Jena.

Purvis was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily injury after an incident at Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas.

Hickman says LaSalle Parish District Attorney Reed Waters may get tough on his stance where Purvis is concerned.

Hickman said he was frustrated when he heard about the arrest, especially after all the work he and Purvis' mother, Tina Jones, had done to keep him out of the spotlight by moving him out of state to live with his uncle, Dallas Cowboy Jason Hatcher.

Hickman says Walters has offered a few plea agreements, but they have yet come to an agreement. At least one of them was similar to the agreement that "Jena Six" member Mychal Bell accepted in December -- a sentence of 18 months in a juvenile facility.

Hickman said he was frustrated when he heard about the Texas incident involving Purvis, which he described as a "little push and shove" incident where no punches were thrown.

Lisa wrote me a bad check too, her good behavior won't last long

You'd think with 20 counts, the judge would consider that she intentionally committed these frauds. It's not like she made a mistake on her back account and accidentally forget to pay up, PLEASE. This is ridiculous to show leniency to someone like this.

Like the kid, 17 yrs old, guilty of 2 drive by shootings, commits a third, resists arrest, and still gets bond of only $900. I don't see the judicial system protecting us by showing mercy to someone that repeatedly show disrespect for law and order of such a high magnitude.

HA! Lisa wrote a bad check to Krogers. I wonder if she wrote a bad one to Winn Dixie and Natchez Market also!
