Lance Rowe talks about God and his journey through Louisiana.
Man wants Jesus on your mind
Published Tuesday, February 26, 2008
Correction: Lane Rowe started his walk in Venice, La., on Dec. 29, 2001.
FERRIDAY — Lance Rowe’s plans to put Jesus on people’s mind, only if for a split second, works.
Rowe spent Saturday walking U.S. 84 in Concordia Parish, dressed like Jesus and carrying a cross.
“If people ride by and think to themselves, ‘Who does this guy think he is, Jesus?’ then I’ve gotten them to think of Him at least once during their day,” Rowe said.

Lance Rowe dress like Jesus and carrying a cross walks down U.S. 84 between Vidalia and Ferriday Saturday afternoon with his son Elijah.
Rowe said he started his trek in Venice, La., on Dec. 29, 2001.
His prayer march gives him a chance to catch people’s attention and make them think. If they’re intrigued enough to stop he gets a chance to talk to them about the Lord and hopefully say a prayer for them.
“Our nation is hurting,” Rowe said.
“We’re divided racially, economically and even spiritually. The most segregated day of the week is Sunday. It would be nice if we could all pray together.”
A Tennessee native, Rowe isn’t alone on his mission. He meets his wife at planned checkpoints after a day of marching and is accompanied by his son, 15 year-old Elijah, during his demonstrations.
“It is surprising how the Lord looks out for you,” said Rowe, waving at a motorist who honked, smiled and yelled, “Keep it up!” as he passed by.
“I helped that guy’s brother find the Lord some years ago in Baton Rouge. I had no idea that (the motorist) had moved down here until he saw me walking earlier today.”
“There will always be hate in the world no matter what,” Rowe said. “So I’ll just keep walking and praying for reform in our church and our land.”

Reminds me of the 60s. Peace and Love sure sound better than the stop, rob and shoot of this generation.

I've seen this guy walking on the hwy Saturday. I thought to myself "wow what an inspiration". May God keep him safe in his journeys!

What an awesome way to spread the Gospel...and to include his family as well!

beamme...I was thinking along the same lines. What convinced me this guy isn't a fake is that he didn't ask to be fed, housed, etc. He's just walking, and if you spot him, his work is done.

The story says he started his walk in central Louisiana on 29 Dec. 01. It has taken him over 6 years to get to Vidalia.

Good for him and his family . His walking is making a profound statement!

This is so nice to see such good comments about this young man. I really do believe that he is working for JESUS. Must JESUS bear the cross alone and all the world go free? Maybe just maybe his walk will save just one soul and all the angels in heaven will rejoice in just one soul. May God bless him and his family.

Wow this is great! He is so right by saying the most segregated day of the week is Sunday. We all claim to be christains but seperate ourselves from each other based on race and "denomination". This guy rocks! I'd love to meet him.

What a blessing this is. May God protect him as he tries to help the rest of us. If we could all just come together for only one hour, think how happy we would make our Lord.

Something about him doesn't seem right to me.

I agree BEAM...something isn't right.
Maybe because he is dressed like Jesus. If this guy was dressed like Elvis, people would think he was a nut. What would people think if he dressed like Mohammed and preached Islam?

((notfromnatchez & beammeupscotty)) i too am 'effy' about this guy... No the man may bot be asking for food or housing, etc... but cant' help to wonder how many people has stopped and handed out an 'offering' which i guess is fine it's their money they can do with it as they please.. when i first looked at the picture of the article i thought 'oh not another one' the reasoning behind what he may be doing is nice. but it just looks and SOUNDS all like one big scam... and someone said something about taking him 6 years to get here from central LA.. i doubt it!! it looks more like a 'part time' job... the way it's looking or sounding is he he will load is ford up now and then and go to a town and walk around a bit.. poor kid.. looking at the pictures.. i can only think is he WANTING TO TAG ALONG or is he being 'MADE TO' well TOLD TO???

Anything that is done to remind the people that Jesus is alive and working in their hearts, cannot be all that bad. As for contributions to help in his march, I surely would offer something cold to drink on a hot day and something hot on a cold day. Jesus lived His life by the goodness of others as an example for everyone to share what they have with others. Remember the little old woman who had only a thin coin for the alms box? Jesus blessed her, for she gave all she could give. This man is doing his penance by doing what he can do to bring attention to our Christ, who went to the cross, suffered in anguish, died in disgrace for each of us to be redeemed. My silent thanks go to him and his family and a prayer that God will watch over them as they carry their message of God's love.

There are a lot of people who claim to live their lives Christ-like, and actions actually do speak louder than words. it's hard to know someone or who they actually are, just by them floating into town to town. He is wearing a cross literally, but how many of us wear a cross figuratively, doesn't matter what your issue can be, it can be a cross nonetheless. I said that to say this, he sort of favors Charles Manson to me, who also said he was the Messiah. He made many outrageous claims during his reign of terror. I don't know this guy, I wouldn't wish him bad, but I also know that as long as he keeps walking, and is not bothering anyone or concocting schemes to get people out of money by feeling sorry for him, he's alright by me.

If I'm not mistaken...I think I've seen him before in Vidalia. I've lived here all my life, but if not Vidalia...I've seen this guy or somebody doing the exact same thing before. Anybody seen something like this before? And I agree with you Teach4Peace...it's not like he's saying donate to the church or anything. He's just stating that sundays are the most segregated days and he's pointing out many of our nations problems...many just segregation in several points. And if he is deceiving people...then so be it. In the end...God has the last laugh.

If people can see Jesus in a slice of toast, a bagel, or on a side of an ice box, I guess some dude with long hair and a cross is an easy sell.

THIS GUY IS FOR REAL.
HE IS ALL ABOUT OUR LORD AND SAVIOR.
HIS WHOLE LIFE IS ABOUT GOD. HE DOES WHAT GOD TELLS HIM.
I LIVE IN BATON ROUGE. I HAVE KNOWN THIS GUY FOR 5 YEARS.
HE WAS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS.
HE WITNESSED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. HE LED A LOT OF PEOPLE TO THE LORD. HE BAPTISTED A LOT OF PEOPLE.
HE IS THERE WHENEVER YOU NEED HIM.
IF HE TELLS YOU TO CALL HIM ANYTIME OF THE DAY OR NIGHT, HE MEANS IT.
HE IS A GODLY PERSON. HIS FAMILY ARE GODLY PEOPLE.
HIS SON THAT IS WALKING WITH HIM. IT IS BECAUSE HE WANTS TO. NOT BECAUSE HE WAS TOLD TO. BECAUSE THAT IS NOT THE CASE.
SO IF YOU SEE THIS MAN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. STOP TALK TO HIM. HE DOES NOT TRY TO PUSH NOTHING ON YOU. AND IF YOU DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT GOD, HE WILL TALK ABOUT WHATEVER YOU WANT TOO.
PRAISE THE LORD. GLORY TO GOD.
WE LOVE LANCE AND ALL OF HIS FAMILY.
GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU.

I have seen someone dressed in robes carrying a cross near Woodville a couple of years ago. But the guy I saw was alone.
Jesus carried his cross and then gave his life on that same cross and he did it for us. We all might have our own cross to carry but generally those crosses are personal ones, how many of us carry a cross for Jesus?
God be with this man and his family as they carry this cross for Him.

Well, what do you choose?
Will you help Jesus carry his cross and ease his burden of saving people from themselves? by helping.
Or will you take a few swings with the hammer yourself and drive the nails in deeper, seeings how Jesus is paying the tab anyway. Lie, cheat, steal, run around on your spouse, turn your nose up at God, cuss him, make that hammer ring.
Its not what WOULD you choose, It is what DO you choose.
This man has made his choice and is holding it up to God. And us.

Family--I can't find my hammer. Can you spare one?

I just thought about Jesus, so Lance accomplished his mission. Someone called me on the phone Sunday and said someone had text messaged them that they had seen a man that looked like Jesus carrying a cross walking on the side of the road in Vidalia. Congratulations Lance...mission accomplished!
All he wanted was to remind people of Jesus; to make them think about Jesus for just a few moments. Perhaps, it was to show us what it would be like to see Jesus walking down the street towards us. Why on Earth does/would that offend you? For a moment, while reading the text, I felt like I was in a room of vampires that had just been shown a cross.

Maybe notfromnatchez should go to Natchez and Vidalia, dress up like Muhammed, and walk the main streets providing everyone divine guidance and direction for mankind through the Koran. Oh, and he could also carry around a big replica of the Burj Dubai skyscraper for added interest or just to get people to pay attention to him.
Everyone is rolling out the carpet for the guy in this article simply because he represents a religion that you practice. Be careful, the last Jesus-talkin' fella who rolled through here got everyone good.

I'm figuring whenJesus himself shows up in person, Elvhiss, and some of the others hissing about a man that just simply tried to make someone think of Jesus, will attempt to nail him to the cross and crucify him one more time!
Now, let me find my holy water to sprinkle around this computer...

This is America...we can worship whomever we please.
But I look around on this beautiful Wednesday morning and I can't doubt the genius and love behind the creation of the world by God. I also believe there has to be a balance in this world. With love also comes hate. I guess we need haters too. For without you, I wouldn't know the true meaning of love and I thank you.

Praise the Lord! I am the man who was in the article carrying the cross. I just want to clarify a few things that were wrong in the article, and also some misconceptions that some people have about me on thse posts.
1st, I DID NOT start my walk in Central Louisiana...I started my walk in Venice, Louisiana, which is at the mouth of the Mississippi River on Dec 29th, 2001. I am on a prayer walk for our country. The only way to pray effectively for our country is to pray for the Church, because the Word of God (the Bible) says in 1 Chronicles 7:14 That if the people of God would humble themselves and pray, and seek His Face, and turn from their wicked ways, that He would hear their voice from Heaven, forgive them their sins, and heal their Land.
So according to the Word of God, the things that are wrong with our country is NOT because of the Politicians or the heathens or whatever a non-Christian might want to refer to themselves as; It is NOT because of anything other than the fact that the Christians of America have failed to embrace the True and Living God with all their heart, to obey His mandate to demonstrate His Love to the Lost and hurting, and have become entrenched in the ways of the world around them. For the most part, the non-Christians see the compromise and the hypocrisy, the Judgmentalism, and the division and the strife among those who profess to be Christians, and as a result, they reject Christianity.
God desires 24/7 fellowship with Him. Not just a 2 hour a week "I've paid my dues, and now I can spend the rest of the week living anyway I want to" mentality. When people see the Truth of the Love of God reflected in a Christian's life, they come to Jesus.
Secondly, I am NOT dressed like Jesus when I carry the cross. The white robe is from Revelation 19, which says that when Jesus comes to get His Bride (the Church) she is going to be dressed in fine linen, clean and white, which is the righteousness of the saints. It is a reminder to Christians that we MUST walk in HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jesus said that the world would know we are His disciples by the love we have for one another. So...that is what my prayer walk is about. When invited I work with Churches on the way in whatever capacity they wish for me to work with them, Hence, the 1 1/2 years I spent in Baton Rouge mentioned by Purpledragonlady.
3)I was the man that the poster saw in Woodville a couple of years ago. I took a little break from my prayer walk to spend twenty months in Metairie La helping to run a Hurricane relief center for Katrina victims.
4) I do not accept donations while I minister on the streets. I don't look for handouts...I don't solicit ministry opportunities with the purpose of getting money. May the Lord bless all who read this with the revelation of His Grace.
