Fireworks resonate through area

Published Tuesday, January 1, 2008

NATCHEZ — The closer the clock approaches the final minute of the year, the more the snap, crackle and pop of fireworks can be heard.

From the old-school bottle rockets and artillery shells to Roman Candles, jumping jacks and the little champagne party poppers, the noise makers light up the eyes of the young and old alike.

A few weeks before Christmas, firework stands began to popup along highways catching the attention of those youngsters who’ve grown to know what the tents, old school buses and shacks represent.

Though they may have been frightened by the loud noises in the days they were carried in their mother’s arms, many youngsters can be found spending the last days of the year shopping for fireworks and getting a chance to play pyrotechnician.

“I’m shooting fireworks with my kids but I’m going to light a few for myself first,” said Geerome Anderson as he and friends gathered shortly after sunset.

The older they get, the less they may participate in skyrocket battles, but one thing remains — fireworks light up everyone’s night.

HAPPY NEW YEAR folks!!! Here's hoping we all have a great year ahead!!!!! (Did you hear the champagne glasses chink together?)

Now that the new year has been ushered in, maybe the little boy who lives next door has run out of his firecrackers!!! (I hope)

What kind of kick does everyone get out of firecrackers? They are mini mini-bombs. I hate the things. We live in the city limits and there aren't supposed to be fireworks inside the city limits, according to the law. The fireman across the street starts doing the fireworks thing with his kids about 5:30 pm and keeps going until way after midnight. Some people do enjoy a quiet New Years Eve. These people put firecrackers in a bucket to amplify the sound. Get sparklers.

oh boo! you sure are a hum-bug, arent you? The city officials don't really enforce those "laws" on occasions like that because everyone is supposed to enjoy it in good spirit. I suggest you go out right now, brod, and buy yourself a big ole bag of water dynamite and have yourself a ball! May you have a blessed New Year, and for the sake of your poor neighbors.... lighten up!!

well its a holiday. i was annoyed at my neighbors shooting firewords all day on the 31st cause my kid couldnt get her nap, but at midnight it was ok. its when im still hearing fireworks at 3 am when I get annoyed. i didnt get my kiddo to bed until 430 am we'd been awake 20 hours, minus her short little 1 hour nap she managed to get in between blasts.... fireworks are ok but discretion needs to be advised in those wee hours.... maybe the cop who followed my around my neighborhood seeing me pull into my driveway and get out and go inside my house for something a few times times should have tried searching somewhere else for problems??? slow driver is suspicious yes, but when i get out and go inside of my house a few times for a noony, whatever, etc, he should have moved on. i finally just stayed home and missed all the fireworks. me and kiddo were just searching for fireworks to watch in the neighborhood about 1215. crazy huh i guess i should be thankful that cops patrol my neighborhood but still...
