Franklin County quarterback Jamie Collins, with ball, has verbally committed to Auburn.
Collins commits to Auburn
Published Wednesday, July 16, 2008
MEADVILLE — Franklin County All-State quarterback Jamie Collins has a shoe box full of college recruiting letters, but right now the only one he’s keeping is from the Auburn Tigers.
Collins, a rising senior and a three-sport standout at Franklin County verbally committed to Auburn Monday night after weighing offers from Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Tulane and Alcorn State.
He has received heavy interest over the last month from Michigan, LSU, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi State.
“Auburn was recruiting me the hardest,” said the 6-4, 210-pound Collins. “I liked the coaches and the school. It’s a good program.”
Annually a Top 25 powerhouse, the Tigers recruited Collins primarily as a defensive back. He has doubled as a starter at quarterback and safety for the Bulldogs over the last two years, leading them to the 3A State finals in back to back seasons.
The Bulldogs won the 3A Championship in 2006, beating Nettleton 23-13. Collins accounted for three touchdowns in the game, and also picked off three passes.
Franklin County lost to Louisville last year in the finals 21-7. Collins scored the Bulldogs only TD in the game.
“I feel good about my decision,” said Collins about committing to the Tigers.
He committed eight months prior to National Signing Day, when he can officially sign his letter of intent with the college of his choice.
Last season Collins, accounted for 29 touchdowns, rushing for 1,253 yards and passing for 959 yards.
Collins was one of 270 rising seniors across the country to attend the Auburn senior football mini-camp last weekend. He joins returning Co-Lin defensive linemen Nick Fairly and Wilfred Journet as Auburn commitments.
Both Fairly and Journet pledged to Auburn in May.
Each signed with the Tigers out of high school, but went to junior college instead.

Loy developed this kid and now he has gone to Tupelo.

Thats why he signed as OLB an not QB, because Loy developed him. No offers as QB. You sure you aint Loys brother-in-law hosssh#t.

I'd rather be an hater than and idiot.

BTW, How did Loy build the program when he was at baseball from Jan. thru July? You better check the records and see who was in weight room everyday for 6 staight years and this is the reason we won. Us Franklin Countians know you are from Natchez and really don't know what happens over here. Isn't Loy from Natchez? You 2 must be related or friends. Stick to worrying about your team and we will worry about ours. Loy would have gotten the job if the people that know what happened thought he was the one behind the success here. They know what happened. They were there everyday, not you.

Loy is my boy, figuratively speaking. He knows more about football than you Alum. He was the genius behind FC football in 06 and 07. McCluskey was just a figure head. You will see FC go down this year because Loy is not there to pull all things together.
BE GREAT AND DON'T HATE
LOY IS THE MAN, HE HAD A PLAN
FC WILL GO DOWN AND YOU ALUM ARE A CLOWN
LOY WAS THE GLUE AND NOW FC IS POO
THE PARTY IS OVER AND FC WILL ROLL OVER!!!!

Why didn't he get the job? From what I understand he is only the 9th grade coach at Tupelo and not even a varsity assistant. Loy likes to blow his own horn and idiots like you follow him around like the pied piper. You are a joke! FC was well on their way to a State Championship before he even showed up. If Loy stopped you would go right up his......whip the brown stuff off your nose.

I heard Loy ran his mouth about Hammond and was given his walking papers. He ran his mouth about Mccluskey and got what was coming to him. There is a big difference between assistant coach and head coach. Loy better stay as an assistant and he can bad mouth the head man where every he goes. We heard all his crap here at FC about Hammond and Mccluskey and good riddance to the mouth running rat. He backstab both and his reputation has taken a hit around town and elsewhere.

He needs to go back to the private schools that he attended and coach at before FC. Kind of a contradiction if you ask me to attend and coach at private schools and then coach public school kids.

We dumb ole Franklin Countians would like to know how he pulled it together. He didn't coach the def. he didn't run the weight room, he didn't coach a special team and he only half ran the off. and he was at baseball for 6 months out of the year. Exactly how did he pull things together. The only 2 players that even liked the guy was the QB and LB/FB and he has poisoned both of them.

Alum 2006: I just wanted to get you going. Looks like it workded. I don't know Loy from the water boy.

Loy would have gotten the job but FC could not justify hiring him over the other assistants. They decided to hire someone with experience as a head coach. Loy is head coaching material. I lied, I really do know him. Also, he went to private school at Trinity. Don't make a big deal about that. Have you looked at the Trinity roster lately? Trinity does not discriminate. Don't be a private school hater. At least they don't waste money like the public schools do. Private schools have their place.

Loy was not a real contender for the job. Most people know the real deal of the situation. Loy will be head material one day but not yet. He applied for more head jobs than FC and other people had doubts also. He is a quality young coach but like so many younger people they want it all now. The only problem I have is that he is rumored to have been backstabbing the former coach and bashing the current one. Also has bashed the ast. coaches at FC. If unhappy or disappointed move on but be quite.

Don't think private school is such a great thing. You pay you play. If you don't daddy comes to see the coach, and if daddy has enough money then Junior gets to play or the coach gets gone. Trinity (doesn't discrim.) ??? Are there poor kids at Trinity? I think it is a valid question about private schoolers in public school.

Why are we talking about some one that the Tupelo paper did not even mention? Who cares?

Apparently you and I care or we would not be talking about all of this. Actually this is kinda fun. People can really get going about their pet peeves. In the scheme of things, I don't really care who coaches at FC because I have nothing to do with the program. I am just a sideliner who hopes they win but it is their program and they can run it how they want to. There is also parental influence in public schools. I just think the private schools get a bad rap that they don't always deserve. Public schools probably discriminate more than private but it is often very subtle.
