Teens brandish BB-gun, arrested for assault
Published Tuesday, July 29, 2008
VIDALIA — A realistic-looking BB-gun and a bag of suspected marijuana were the perfect recipe to land two local teens behind bars Saturday.
Max F. Byrd, 18, of 30 Cloverdale Drive, Natchez, and Edward S. Montgomery, 19, 1627 Camellia St., Vidalia, were arrested in connection with an alleged incident in which two males brandished a handgun at a passing motorist while driving erratically, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kathleen Stevens said. The alleged incident occurred at approximately 7:13 p.m.
The Ferriday Police reportedly stopped the vehicle the two teens were in on Carolina Avenue, and CPSO Deputy Denis Mulvihill reportedly found a bag of suspected marijuana in the vehicle along with a black automatic BB pistol, Stevens said.
Montgomery, who was the driver of a gray Nissan pickup truck with Texas tags, was charged with possession of marijuana (second offense) and aggravated assault.
Byrd, the passenger, was charged with possession of marijuana and aggravated assault.

If someone does not start punishing, young adults will continue running wild and doing what they please. Even though they were obviously not taught any better, I think careless actions such as these should have the book thrown at them or maybe a whole bunch of community service since they don't have anything else constructive to do with their time, since I'm sure jobs are out of the question.

Stupid kids! Don't they know how many people (me included) keep REAL guns in their car? Good way to get yourself killed boys. To pull a dumb stunt with pot in the car they deserve the trouble they're facing. If being stupid was a crime these boys would be serving a life sentence.

If you rob someplace with a bb gun, its still armed robbery, isn't it?

kristen2: as per your own words "not the biggest drug dealers anyway"....does this imply that although they are not the "biggest drug dealer" that they are still drug dealers just the same? And please go back and reead the article...it does not state that the boys pointed the gun at a cop, but instead at a passing motorist! Are you NUTS...just because this boy has a lot on his mind right now you think this type of behavior is OKAY??!!! What if he had pointed that thing at the wrong person and they pulled out the real thing? A bb gun in a robbery can get you a life sentance in La.

Just because an 18 or 19 year old man has a lot on his mind does not make it ok to put other people in harms way. More people should start considering the possible repercussions of their actions before acting. i am sorry, Kristen2 but there is no excuse for this. And not only the gun, but no one is really saying anything about the drugs, you know why, cause it is too common these days, it is just understood, well that is unacceptable as well. I am still in my twenties and POT has become something way more than it used to be.....maybe if someone got real punishment for this then others might learn a lesson. And here is a question, Are they men or boys?

glad they got those knuckleheads off the street before they hurt themselves or some innocent bystander
what idiots!!!!
good job CPSO
I have to agree wifetoone, that if I see a realistic gun waving around, erratic driving, I'm going on guard. With the number of shootings going on 'round here, you cannot allow the bad guys to get the first shot, so these kids are really stupid to push their luck so far. Brandishing a firearm would call for self-defense in my opinion.

kristen2, what a punk you are for taking up these punks
do you realize how stupid that makes you seem?
I can very easily judge them, no I'm not God, but I'm one of God's children, I am a taxpaying citizen (which I doubt you are, you probably don't even know where to go vote by the way you talk) The issue is not what we might have done in the past, but what we know to be right & wrong NOW.
You're the immature one for taking up for immature behavior. They are the one's that should loose their privelidge to drive and temporarily their right to even be free for their obvious disregard for others' safety and peace.

kristen2, you obviously have a bad attitude about the rights of good, orderly citizens and their ability to judge bad and disorderly punks by the legal system
you'll learn your lesson too
just keep on and it'll come to you the hard way

I am just glad I got to read krogers. seems kristen2 is sensitive to the incident. Sweetie.... just because we are not god does not mean we do not know right from wrong. and actually when you break the LAW you are judged by your peers, its called a jury. And by the way, no I have not done anything remotely close to provoking what could have caused a tragic accident.

Krogers calm down and realize you are NOT the only person with an opinion! You bash anyone who doesn't agree with you!

I personally know Lil' Edward, he's my nephue and he could never hurt a fly. He's always been an asmatic, soft spoken little boy. His life has been in jepordy for years now because of his asma. He also was stabbed a couple of years ago and almost died then too. His mother, my sister works hard every day on the boat, since day one...the boat opened. She has tried her best to raise her 2 boys and has always been a single mom. God be with them all. Edward cannot get out of jail because he was on probation for a pot charge. She cries eveyday for her sons. Please ya'll have a heart and say a prayer for lil' Edward, I've been praying for God to shake him up and let him know that his actions are going to have to be accounted for & to know that stupid stuff like that could get him killed. He's just a boy still andI pray that the Judge will see that they just looked at it as having fun. Yes stupid, but fun too the kids. Natchez & Vidalia need to have something for the teens to do and maybe they wouldn't get into stupid trouble and now this goes against his record and the rest of his life and I don't even think he knows that. Please ya'll say prayers for Linda & her son Edward; they need all the help and prayers they can get. God love you all. Amen

thanks sayitloud- from you that's a compliment
I am so tired of hearing that the kids don't have anything to do and that is their excuse for getting in trouble
there is plenty to do
play tennis, golf, softball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, frisbee, cut grass, dig in the garden, clean up your room, join a martial arts school, read a book, go to the library, work out, go jogging, take up a decent hobby, go visit some old folks and do something good for them, take some friends and pick up trash for the neighborhood, set up a lemonade stand, wash cars, paint the house, go fishing, go hunting, go for a walk, watch TV, etc. COME ON!! Use your imagination and find something good to do. There is no excuse for scaring people on the road and trying to find trouble.
