Volunteers make week a bright one

Published Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Volunteers and community events abounded in the Miss-Lou last week; what a way to start the summer months.

Let’s review some of the great things our area residents did last week:

Coast Guardsmen from the local office took a day away from the river Tuesday to volunteer at the Natchez Children’s Home. The guardsmen did some needed cleaning on the home’s grounds.

Community volunteers, including representatives from the 2007 Leadership Natchez class, made Pleasant Acre Day School’s annual fundraiser a success to the tune of more than $4,000. The students will use the money to fund a field trip.

Members of the Keep Natchez-Adams County Beautiful committee aren’t afraid to get dirty, we know that. The group took their litter-cleaning services to the Broadmoor area Saturday, and their work shows.

And finally, the reenactment of the black role in the Civil War — Black and Blue — was a great success at Historic Jefferson College. Locals came out to help reenact important scenes, and an important side of the war story was told.

With so much activity last week, we think the area is just getting geared up for summer. We know there’s more greatness to come.
