Reward offered in downtown purse snatching

Published Sunday, June 8, 2008

NATCHEZ — Natchez police officers are in search of suspects in a Saturday night purse snatching.

At 11:12 p.m. a woman walking behind a business in the 300 block of Main Street was confronted by four black males. One of the men reached out and snatched her purse.

According to Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins, the purse snatcher was reportedly wearing a red baseball cap and red jersey with a white No. 12.

Witnesses reported that the men got into a white SUV.

Mullins requested that anyone with information about Saturday night’s incident call Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000. There is a substantial cash reward available, Mullins said.

Why hasn't anything been published about the shooting at Dannys Lounge in Vidalia this morning around 1:00 am???
A man was shot twice there and taken to Regional! I don't know his condition!
From what I was told it was a drive by!

That place is nothing but a problem spot! There are stabbings and shootings there all the time!

Posted by 000117 (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 1:57 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Danny's Lounge is not the only place that have fights. It is just one of a few that are put in the papers.

Just wondering how many times have trouble been reported at Danny's this year compaired to others. Just wondering.

I like to be fair to all parties.

How many car chases have started at Danny's and ended up with people being killed? As I said before for just wondering , I still like to be fair.

No I do not go to Danny's Lounge. So stop trying to find out who I am. I am just some one that give everyone equal justice.

I wonder if this women that was walking behind a business in a DARK alley ( STUPID ) was behind one of the clubs that are on Main Street.

Why was she behind the businesses that late BY HERSELF in the FIRST PLACE. Sound like the part of the story is missing.

000117, I was wondering the SAME thing. Why are you walking in an ALLEY behind a business at night, in Natchez? It's not like Natchez is a busling 24 hour community.

Posted by OldGrandDad (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 7:01 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Last time I checked, folks were free to walk as they pleased. Day or night. Maybe the United States of America has changed?

Posted by mike8427 (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 7:35 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Dang, didn't a purse snaching happen in Natchez about 4 months ago in almost the same location?

Posted by kpage (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 7:35 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Yep folks...don't walk in alleys late at night cause a guy with a red jersey is lurking in the shadows. In fact, don't go anywhere around here at night alone...let's let the thugs take over. No, that doesn't sound right. Wad up in packs so the thugs won't get you. It's a shame we have to consider getting mugged, raped, or killed everywhere we go. It's a shame a girl was by herself late at night, knowing hoodlems are taking over.

Well I'm remembering the Casablanca thing going on Saturday night downtown right? So maybe she was in this movie? If so, they have NO protection for the people that are IN the thing? Let's wait and hear all this one before we bash.

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 8:17 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I was thinking maybe she had left the movie also sayitloud...To bad she was not packing and surprised them....then the story would have been poor child got shot trying to steal a purse poor thing was so young blahblah blah....

She should be able to walk anywhere she wants anytime day or night what gives those thugs the right to be able to walk at night and not her???? If more women would take a self defense class and kick those thugs a@@ ....

Posted by OldGrandDad (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 8:21 a.m. (Suggest removal)

sayitloud, Are you showing some restraint on bashing? How admirable. I'm proud of you.

The movie on Commerce is not a movie you are "in". You simply take your lawn chair and go see it. There's plenty of protection all around.

Posted by Yeahuhuh (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 8:21 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Well, when some crazy loner walks by you and grabs your purse that is a purse snatching. This is much more sinister.

When 4 males confront a woman in the dark and one of them takes her purse that is a robbery.

If there is a reward, the amount should be stated. I would think a $1,000 advertised reward would be sufficient to show this guy and his buddies they have no friends -- no prosecution -- no pay.

Posted by sayitloud (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 8:35 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Old, obviously there is not "plenty of protection" all around. And I'm with fire on this one, we all need to be packing to get the upper hand on these thugs.

Posted by sayitloud (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 8:39 a.m. (Suggest removal)

BTW Old, I am SOOOOO glad you are proud of me!! You know I almost didn't sleep but 11 hours last night worried about that.
THANX!

Eleven hours sounds chemical to me. But to each his own. (insert little smiley face here)

Posted by Natchez3 (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 8:47 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Sayitloud........The movie was over at 10 pm.!!!!!!

And while we were there we made a comment how many cops drove by. And truly there were tons of people out that night walking ---some with kids. And some of those people were tourist.

But I am with oldgrand with this one. People should be able to walk down town at night. Some resturants do not close until 11 pm. And there were many people out watching the LSU game and horse race. The women did nothing wrong.

Posted by sayitloud (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 8:51 a.m. (Suggest removal)

You're right Natchez3 we should be able to cruise our streets any time we choose without worrying about this crap. My fav restaurants are downtown and where I tell tourists to go, but now......

I'm just sayin

Posted by Natchez3 (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 9:01 a.m. (Suggest removal)

That ain't going to stop me and my friends from letting thugs run us off. And I am truly NOT going tell MY tourist to stop walking down town. The more honest people that are out the less trouble. And plenty of the people I know ( husband and wife teams) walk there dogs late at night. My bet is they will be doing it tonight. It is called watching their neighborhoods. No one is going to curl up and let what happen months ago happen again.

just saying!!!!

Posted by Natchez3 (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 9:17 a.m. (Suggest removal)

another note: Every town has purse snatchers.

And let me say it again. You do not stay home and allow the thugs to take over. You take over your town and claim it. You do NOT hand it over to the thugs and hide in your house and pretend nothing is wrong. Everyone has to be responsible for watching and alerting the police.

I still say to bad she wasn't packing and this story would have been diffrent!!! i agree this was not a purse snatching it was a robbery...Purse snatching when you snatch a purse it wasn't snatched...GRRR this pisses me off....This girl may have been getting off work who knows....She may have had all her tips from the night in her purse.....

I promise you if she would have shot him there would have been 100 people on here holloring how could y'all be so cold hearted he was just a kid that made a bad choice blah blah blah

Posted by Hardcorps (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 9:52 a.m. (Suggest removal)

These four thugs need to be thrown in the river. Let Baton Rouge PD identify them in a couple weeks. Like someone stated this was a robbery, a personal attack.
On the other hand what was she doing there? Nothing good goes on in a back alley at that time of night. Would it have been behind Dimples or the Eola?
Perhaps she won't be stupid next time. Perhaps it wasn't a robbery.??? Perhaps she was back there doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing.???

Posted by sayitloud (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 9:59 a.m. (Suggest removal)

She more than likely WAS gettting off work and going to her car since no one but tourists are allowed to park in the well lite area of the streets, but whatever her reasons they had NO right to take from her.

Posted by fire39212 (anonymous) on June 9, 2008 at 10:48 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Well sayitloud you know they aren't gonna allow a working person to park where it is lit..gezzzz...You gotta be kidding me....You know the Great tourist indusry has all the perks...

We were taught to watch and take care of others. Now it is only the 'me, me, me' when it comes to the younger generation. It's sad......

What a bunch of jerks on here talking about the lady from New Orleans. I didnt see any mention of an address or organization to send money to. Maybe the Democrat just wanted to point out that some people are still hurting from Katrina in relation to the beginning of Hurricane season. Why does it always have to be about someone asking for handouts or help-I didnt get that vibe from the story at all. How would yall feel if you were uprooted from your home and all of your family and had to relocate and oh yeah, in the process your spouse died. I mean come on, I think the Democrat writers know better than to look for sympathy from these readers. Come down off your high horses, and if your gonna throw racism out there-first learn how to spell it-Racist not raciest.

THIS IS FOR 000117

""I wonder if this women that was walking behind a business in a DARK alley ( STUPID ) was behind one of the clubs that are on Main Street.

Why was she behind the businesses that late BY HERSELF in the FIRST PLACE. Sound like the part of the story is missing.""

FIRST OF ALL THIS WOMEN WAS NOT WALKING IN AN ALLEY. SHE WAS IN THE NATCHEZ EOLA HOTEL PARKING LOT. WHICH IS NOT IN AN ALLEY. SHE WAS WALKING FROM A CAR TO THE DOOR TO GO IN THE BUILDING WHEN THE GUYS CAME FROM THE DRIVE THROUGH AND GATHERED AROUND HER THEY THEN GRABED HER PURSE AND RAN. THE BUILDING THAT SHE WAS BEHIND WAS BISCUITS & BLUES. SO BEFORE YOU START TO CALL SOMEONE STUPID YOU SHOULD KNOW THE WHOLE STORY OR AT LEAST HAVE BEEN AT THE PLACE AT THE TIME OF THE ACTION.

OK I KNOW SOME OF YOU ARE GOING TO SAY HOW DO I KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT THIS.........WELL I HAPPEN TO WORK AT THE NATCHEZ EOLA HOTEL AND I WAS THERE WHEN ALL OF THIS TOOK I DID NOT SEE THE GUYS BUT I KNOW WHAT WAS TOLD TO THE COPS...........................

ALSO YOU SHOULD PUT YOURSELF IN HER PLACE, AND SEE HOW YOU WOULD FEEL IF SOMEONE THAT DID NOT KNOW WHAT WENT ON, STARTED CALLING YOU STUPID........YOU SHOULD NEVER DO THAT...WHAT IF SOMEONE CALL YOU STUPID FOR SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU AND YOU DID NOTHING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN....LIKE THIS WOMEN.............................

I AM SO SORRY TO THE LADY THAT THIS HAPPENED TO...MAY GOD BE WITH YOU THROUGH THIS....GOD BLESS YOU!!

What a variety of comments...lol. I know several people that were victims of the hurricane and lost their homes and family members as a result. They have moved forward and have re-established. I guess some people are different when it comes to healing from a loss, whether a home or loved one. The ones that are still living off of FEMA are the ones I think the criticism should be directed towards. At least this lady is not expecting someone else to always take care of her. I wanted to comment on the original article but comments were disabled as everyone has mentioned.

Then everyone wants to raise hell about the police not doing their jobs! How can they when no-one seems to want to help them or the people that were hurt???

Just like that multiple car wreck that happened on the bridge! Those kids had ALL just left Dannys when they had that wreck! They had ALL been drinking!

Sure there are other establishments that have problems,,,,,,But NOTHING LIKE AT DANNY'S!!! I hope they close it down so no more of our youth are killed because of that place!!!

tammy, it's easier to take money from a woman at night than to get a job. I'm sorry for your sister-in-law, and you are right, race doesn't even come into this. WHEN these guys are caught, I hope they get some jail time and have to pay back everything they took.

Thanks snatchez! I live not far from Stanton Hall but closer to the river, if you could tell me about those mysterious search lights I would be thrilled!

The lady was leaving a dinner party at Biscuits and Blues, walking to her car parked in the lot behind B&B and the Eola. A friend was walking with her when the 4 men jumped them. Get the facts before you call someone stupid ..... she was smart enough to have a male friend walk her to her car, little did they know the would be accosted by four men. They were barely out of the B&B parking lot when it happened.

I will say it again. The lady did nothing wrong. I hope that she is okay.

And I hope the thugs get caught.

I normaly enjoy checking in on ND and find the infomation very helpful or at least not so NEGITIVE. I'm not from there but do have family and friends from around there. But TONIGHT I must say that most of what I read was pure HATE.The story started out about a woman who's purse got stolen! But very quickly it changed to the Hurricain VICTUM!I I say victum because she had NO control over the WORST STORM That ever hit the United States.I was involved in helping people of that storm, they just didn't lose every thing they owned,But had to see their children and other relitives get swooped away by the waters and have not been found to this day. I saw my Best friend go out in a rescue boat. But unfortunely only found died body's.He said a prayer for their souls, and then went on to try and find some one alive.Have any of you had to hold a mother in your arms because she would not let go of her died child.I have!!So when you stop blogging for the night. And go to sleep Maybe you will think about what I have said and next time you see a hurrican victum. You might say HELLO with a smile on your face.

Hurricane victim or not, the south has lost it's hospitality. People are not as friendly in public places like they were several years ago. No one should feel that because they are a hurricane victim, it is the reason no one is friendly to them. How is everyone suppose to know who is a hurricane victim and who is not? My family and I were without electricity and work for over 10 days and I had 3 large trees down in my yard, one of which ripped my front porch completely off my house. (I don't live in Natchez anymore) We adjusted and managed. I know that is nothing compare to what other people went through. There are many people that have lost loved for reasons other than the hurricane, but life must go on because God has a reason for everything.
