Ferriday weeds just keep sprouting

Published Friday, June 20, 2008

We know there are good people in Ferriday.

Every town has good, honest, unselfish residents.

It’s a shame that the bad seeds catapult themselves to the forefront, while the flowers are left to wilt in their shadows.

Politics in Ferriday is a dirty game. Play it right and you get a free trip to Las Vegas, just ask outgoing Mayor Gene Allen who convinced the town council to fund his way to the Miss Black USA pageant.

So, why not try your selfish hand at getting some undeserved money at the taxpayers’ expense?

Aldermen-elect Elijah “Steppers” Banks fits the dirty politician bill just right.

Banks, who will become responsible, in part, for managing the town’s dollars in two weeks, thought now was an appropriate time to sue his own town. Banks is seeking compensation for the money he lost when his nightclub was shut down in 2001, reportedly after numerous complaints including the shooting of a police officer.

He originally filed the suit in 2001, but it was not resolved.

Aldermen are elected to serve the people. They are charged with putting the needs of the taxpayers above their own needs. Their job is to be unselfish.

But Banks is only concerned with himself. He’s seeking seven-year-old money, even though he’s since opened a new nightclub.

Though we are hopeful that mayor-elect Glen McGlothin and other aldermen can help the town’s flowers grow, Banks’ latest action has added at least a few more weeds to the garden that must be addressed.

I like it. It is so true. That man should be ashamed.

I envision cacti growing in the town's flower beds because they are so 'prickly'.

I hope the citizens of Ferriday petition for a recall on this jerk! It is an absolute conflict of interest for him to be an Alderman and sit in on the Towns business while he is engaged in a lawsuit against the very City he is sworn (or will be July 1st) to uphold and serve!

He should either drop this rediculous lawsuit or turn in his resignation! Maybe when Glen takes Office,,,,,He'll come up with some kind of Law or Town policy that will keep this idiot from sitting in on the Towns business while this suit is ongoing!

ND, good job keeping up with Ferriday. How about some attention to Fayette? We never get any news from Fayette and trust me there are plenty of "weeds".

How many would have voted differently, knowing what they know now?

There are plenty of weeds sprouting up in Natchez too. Left and right, only the Democrat editorializes on their behalf.

What does Fayette have to do with this, Hambone? Weeds are everywhere. I must say, being a flower from Fayette, that all towns have problems, so what's your point? How have long have you been reading the paper?

My poor hometown...always a scandal. Yep, there are wonderful people living in Ferriday who have to survive (for lack of a better word) in this town. It's not so easy to pack up and move off. I say Take Your Town Back!!!!

Glen...it's almost time to shine!

You guys should not play politics as much as you do.

The wording and the sentiment in this piece is unprofessional.

You guys forget that your paper is so thin that most folks just laugh when they see it. And even in such a thin paper you make too many obvious mistakes to have such a sharp sword.

And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
