Sorority gives yearly awards

NATCHEZ — During the recent Xi Alpha Phi Sorority Founders’ Day banquet, Jeanette Webb, chapter president, announced the new theme for 2008-2009. The theme “Rekindle the Torch of Friendship,” will be remembered in all chapter functions. The banquet was in the Turret Room at the Castle Restaurant and was planned and implemented by the sorority executive board.
Following the banquet the two major yearly awards were presented to Jeanette Webb, Woman of the Year, and Shirley Wilson for the yearly Pace Award. Both of these honorees received appropriate gifts and certificates.
Winner of the Pace Award exemplifies participation, attitude, commitment and enthusiasm.
Webb exemplified sorority ideals this year by serving as president and by participating in all chapter functions.
Officers for the coming year have been voted on and were announced as follows: Linda Cox, president, Beth Webb, vice president, Carole Cotton, recoding secretary, Paula White, treasurer, Gwyn Bacot, corresponding secretar and Jean S. Simonton, historian.
Members were reminded that the state sorority convention will be held this year in Cleveland in September and the 2009 convention will be in Natchez in June 2009. Dana Dent will serve as convention chairman for the 2009 event.
Member were also reminded to continue to donate to the Adams County Humane Society.
Board members were reminded to meet before June 20 to complete the chapter yardstick and at the meeting to complete arrangements for a summer social.
