“We got down at first, but I learned a lot about these kids,” ACCS head coach Hunter McKeivier said. “They battled and stayed focused and knew what they had to do.”

After the Spartans scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 9-5 game, the Rebels responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. ACCS tied the game at 10-10 in the bottom of the sixth.

Then in the bottom of the seventh, Comer won the game on an error by Prairie View following a bunt by Britton McCall.

“Once we did that, I thought we had momentum,” McKeivier said.

Dustin Carroll went 2-for-4 with a home run and Comer also went 2-for-4.

In the second game, ACCS trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning. But the Rebels once again showed their resolve by scoring two runs to tie the game at 3-3.

After Prairie View scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead again, ACCS took the lead for good with three runs it its half of the inning and then put the game away with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Luke Brumfield went 3-for-5 with a double and Carroll, the winning pitcher, also went 3-for-5 to lead the Rebels, who had a combined 26 hits in the two games.

“We killed the bad hitting curse,” McKeivier said. “I was very pleased with the way we swung the bats tonight.”

Natchez High 19, Wingfield 0

JACKSON — Freshman Brian Isaac and senior Kendall Logan each hit two-run home runs as the Bulldogs handily defeated the Falcons Friday afternoon in Division 6-5A action.

Natchez High (5-8, 2-3) also got solid pitching from winning pitcher Travis Isaac, Javon Washington and Giovanni Dent as the three combined on a two-hitter in the four-inning game. Isaac went two innings while Washington and Dent each pitched one inning.

“He (Isaac) pitched two good strong innings,” Natchez High head coach Charlie Williams said. “He walked two and struck out three and he didn’t give up but one hit.”

Even though the Bulldogs defeated a team they were expected to do so against, Williams said it was an important win as far as the division standings are concerned.

“It put us back in the (division) for second place,” Williams said.

Logan went 3-for-4 and had a triple as well as his home run. Brian Isaac was 2-for-3 as was Washington, who had a triple, for Natchez High. The Bulldogs had 12 hits in the game, which would make a lot of coaches elated — but not Williams.

“I was still not pleased, but I was a little more satisfied that we saw the ball better,” Williams said.

WCCA 8, Franklin Academy 1

WOODVILLE — Brandon Simon and George Davis combined for five hits and five runs batted in and Sutton Olive pitched a gem in a complete-game performance as the Rams defeated the Cougars Friday night in an MPSA District 6-A game.

On the mound, Olive had good control of his pitches. He allowed just one run on four hits, walked just one batter and struck out five. The Cougars scored their only run in the top of the fifth inning.

WCCA (12-6, 4-1) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back from there. The Rams added one run in the bottom of the third, two in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the sixth.

Franklin County 12, Tylertown 2

TYLERTOWN — Tylertown had no answer for Blaine Abernathy on the mound or at the plate as he helped the Bulldogs defeat the Chiefs Friday night to remain undefeated in Region 7-3A.

Abernathy went all six inning for Franklin County as she gave up two runs on three hits. He also went 3-for-4 to lead the Bulldogs’ 13-hit attack. Jordan Hunt was another key player in the game as he went 2-for-3 and stole five bases.

“We hit the ball well. We had quality pitching again and good defense, It’s a good win for us,” Franklin County head coach Jeremy Loy said.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 13-2 overall and 8-0 in Region 7-3A. However, they still have to get past North Pike to win the region championship.

“We play a big series next week with North Pike and that decides who wins the district. I’m excited for my guys for putting themselves in position to win the district.”

Franklin County will be on the road today when it takes on Class 4A Lawrence County at 2 p.m. That follows the junior varsity game, which starts at noon.

MONTEREY, La. — Daniel Jenkins hit a home run and Preston Edwards had a pair of doubles as the Green Wave defeated the Wolves Friday night despite giving up 11 hits.

Monterey had four hits in the first inning alone, but the home team somehow was not able to take advantage of the situation. All of the Wolves’ hits went for singles.

Centreville 10, Silliman 0

CLINTON, La. — Kyle Brown’s solo home run in the top of the ninth inning in game on and a strong pitching performance by Hunter Devall in game two gave the Tigers a doubleheader sweep of the Wildcats in MPSA District 5-AA action Friday night.

Centreville led 2-0 after five innings, but Silliman scored one run in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to send the game into extra innings until Brown’s homer won it for the Tigers.

The second game was a completely different story as the Tigers needed just five innings to take care of the Wildcats. Devall struck out nine while holding Silliman to just five hits. He also had two hits of his own at the plate.

Brandon Aldridge and Brown each had a double for Centreville (3-11, 3-2), which had 11 hits in the second game.
