Ferriday teen indicted in connection with death

Published Thursday, May 1, 2008

HARRISONBURG — A Ferriday teen was indicted by a Catahoula Parish grand jury in connection with the March death of a Jonesville 16-year-old.

Donrick L. Washington, 19, 27617 Louisiana 15, Ferriday, was indicted on charges of manslaughter in connection with the March 2 shooting death of Ju’wan Jones, 16, in Jonesville.

Washington was arrested by the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office on charges of second-degree murder March 2.

No motive for the killing was established at the time.

An indictment is a legal process by which the grand jury determines if there is enough evidence to take a matter to trial and on what charges.

Court proceedings for the matter have not yet been set by the Seventh Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

I don't know vilou. Makes me want to padlock myself in my home and only come out when I need to go to the grocery store or pay bills. It's just plain scary. Imagine what it will be like in 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel that the Brady Bill should make it a little more strict to purchase a firearm.

What makes you think Washington purchased the firearm he used?

Nothing to offer the teens in this area of the country. There are no mentorship programs. No YMCA's, No Trusth-worthy Leaders in these areas to work with the youth. That's why we have so much crime from teens. You want to blame the parents, single mothers; but you fail to realize that some of the parents need leadership counseling as well.

We care so much about who was elected to office and how high the river is, but what about our children? What are we doing in an effort to lead our young people today? What are we doing or developing to get them off the streets and into a program where they can release some of that energy into something productive and constructive for them?

We have to build programs that will not only reach out to the youth but also bridge the gaps between families and the government. If our children act up, all we think is Punishment, Suspension, Expulsion. What are we doing to build up these young people? Nothing!!!!! But then we sit back and speculate when we hear something bad!

Wake up people. Did we forget that these young people are our future? Did we forget that we need to help train them and lead them instead of tearing them down?

Don't go around quoting,"It takes a village to raise a child", if you're turning your backs and not trying to help.

I know I'm going to get a lot of "flack" for this, but I don't care. I'll still keep posting:-)
