Adams County Sheriff Deputy Charles Harrigill surveys the scene of an accident early Sunday morning on Lower Woodville Road near the intersection of White Apple Road. At approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a truck traveling south on Lower Woodville struck a large oak tree that had fallen across the roadway, lodging itself beneath the tree. One of the truck's occupants was trapped in the wreckage until rescuers managed to lift the tree from the truck.
Truck trapped under tree on Lower Woodville Road
Published Sunday, May 11, 2008
Rescue crews from the Natchez Fire Department, Adams County Sheriff's Office, the Adams County Road Department and Chop's Wrecker Service worked furiously at midnight Saturday to rescue a woman trapped after her truck lodged underneath a fallen tree on Lower Woodville Road.
At about 11:30 the Natchez Fire Department was called to bring the Jaws of Life to the scene about 1/2 mile north of White Apple Road in south Adams County.
Reports are that the tree had already fallen across the road when the woman and her traveling companion were traveling south. The couple apparently did not see the tree before they slammed into it and became lodged underneath it. The woman was in the passenger seat. Her male traveling companion escaped with minor injuries.
Chop's Wrecker lifted the large tree at approximately 12:15 a.m. Emergency responders were working to remove the woman from the car at 12:30. She was alert.
This story will be updated as information becomes available.

Thank you so much for your comments. I was driving the truck. I never saw it coming. There is no way we should have lived through that. I really do feel blessed.

Wow! Thank the lord. How is your companion?
I drive that street daily and it can be quite dark. I can see how you could easily come upon the tree without seeing it.

Thank God you are both ok physically. It will probably take awhile to get over the shock! That is such a narrow twisty road I'm not surprised you never saw it coming.

My wife is ok. Very sore but nothing broken. Thank you for asking. I saved her life by pushing her down a second before we hit. I was not expecting to making out of this alive. I should be dead. But i would gladly put my life second to hers again. she is my life and i would gladly die for her. thank you all again.

Thank goodness both of you are here to talk about it. I agree with ProNatchez, That road is VERY dark at night. I travel that road every weekday night at that exact time. I leave work at 11p and pick my 7 1/2mo. old baby up from my mom and dad and take lower woodville back to Ferriday...scary. That could have been us. I think street lights would be a wise investment for the city! Especially in those dark curvy areas.
