Wicker defeats Musgrove

Published Wednesday, November 5, 2008

NATCHEZ — Sen. Roger Wicker defeated opponent Ronnie Mugrove in the special election to fill the four leftover years vacated by Republican Trent Lott.

Though the final tally in Adams County for the two contenders left Wicker behind with 39.71 percent and Musgrove with 60.23 percent, the statewide vote has put the Republican in Lott’s vacated seat.

Local Republican party member Sue Stedman said it’s vital that Wicker was elected to that position in the U.S. Senate.

She said had Musgrove been elected, the balance of government would have been skewed, especially with Democratic president-elect Barack Obama in office.

She said with Wicker elected, it maintains a filibuster-proof senate and also is a true representation of the country.

“What we’re seeing here is a country that’s 50-50 in the long run, and I’d like to at least see a balance of power maintained in the House or Congress,” she said.

She said while it still won’t be a Republican majority, without Wicker in that seat, the system of checks and balances would fall to pieces.

Republican party leader Johnny Junkin also said that system would no longer exist had Musgrove been elected.

“You’d have no checks and balances whatsoever,” he said. “We haven’t had that since Lyndon Johnson and anyone who wants to go back to Lyndon Johnson, that’s fine, just don’t take me with you.”

He said without a filibuster-proof senate and Wicker not in that seat, it would not only be hard on the state of Mississippi, but it would also be hard on the country.

Well at least one of my candidates won! Congrats to Senator Wicker, was a little worried about this one. If only the presidency had gone my way. Good luck to all Obama supporters and lets all pray for our country cause I fear bad things lie ahead for us.

This senate race was one of the dirtiest races I have seen in a long time. Both of them should be embarassed of their actions during this election, it makes MS look like we are a bunch of name calling babies.

It is amazing that people would STILL rather participate in FEAR MONGERING, the same fear mongering that apparently didn't get McCain elected, rather than be happy for this country, work with the current powers that WILL be and hope and pray for positive change.

GOBama won last night, but it isn't going to be easy. As I have stated before, 8 years of a bleak downturn is going to take hard work to get us back. The American reputation abroad has been ruined. Foreign policies run amuck while domestic policies and our people here suffer.

Lets not fret about our "bad" foreign policies (which are the best and have no fear on domestic policies cause here comes Rahm Emanuel to the rescue. Now case you forgot this gentleman who worked for Clinton. He was the one who got us into NAFTA. Its coming back to bite!

Okay Mr. Wicker, do what you were elected to do. Do right by your country.

News flash !!!!

CNN news said the birth certificate tuned in by obama was examined by officials and discovered to have been altered !!!!!!.....

This was completely passed over and accepted by everyone. WHY???? It was never questioned. WHY???

Maybe Wicker and McCain can get together in Congress and find some explanation for this over sight.

Destiny, get over it. You have a new president. No amount of your needling and nitpicking is going to change it.

People like you are really disgusting. Your candidate didn't win. Yes, he is a true American hero and from most accounts a good person. But, he lost. The election is over.

The reason I call you disgusting is this....he is now OUR president -- yours and mine. If you can't at least give him a chance before you bash him, then I feel sorry for you.

And Rushing, once and for all, please grow up! You always sound like a toddler whining in the corner.
