Truck accident cuts power in Natchez
Published Tuesday, November 18, 2008
NATCHEZ — A mid-afternoon power outage left 482 customers with out electricity in Natchez Monday.
Entergy’s Customer Service Manager Stephen Caruthers said the outage was caused when a large truck, likely an 18-wheeler, caught an overhead power line and pulled it down.
Caruthers said the circuit recognized the error and shut down.
And that left a lot of people, and businesses, in the dark.
Walmart, the Natchez Police Department and even Entergy’s own office was left without power.
“It was a pretty significant outage,” Caruthers said.
The power was out from 2:17 p.m. until 2:44 p.m.
Late Monday afternoon all but one customer was receiving power, Caruthers said.

I happened by this accident shortly after it happened and saw that the Over-Sized Load had a Pilot Car complete with a Clearance Pole leading the way. This should not have happened if someone was paying attention and actually doing their job. He managed to take out 2 poles, one with a transformer!

was wondering what happened
have to hand it to Entergy, the power was back on quick
either the truck was too tall
or likely the lines were hanging too low
I've had to have Entergy raise up the lines at my house as they were so low
I think we need more UNDERGROUND power lines, seems like in the long run Entergy would save a lot of maintenance and repair costs- plus it would just be safer for customers and the repairmen too
