New Natchez tourism Web site launches today

Published Sunday, November 30, 2008

Natchez — The oldest settlement on the Mississippi River just got a new encampment on the Internet.

Natchez Newspapers Inc., publishers of The Natchez Democrat, natchezdemocrat.com and natchezscene.com, today launched a new Web site featuring information for tourists to the area.

Web Editor Ben Hillyer created the site, which is located at www.natchezontheriver.com.

The site features a broad range of information from house tours to lists of restaurants and accommodation options.

In addition, feature stories and photo galleries will give readers a deeper understanding of the area.

From stories about best-selling author Greg Iles to galleries of historic photographs from the Norman Collection, the site has a little something for every taste.

The online site also features a comprehensive calendar of events of interest to visitors.

“We’re excited by the ability to share this information with visitors on their schedules,” said Publisher Kevin Cooper. “Until now, much of this information was only accessible in our special print editions.

“Today’s travelers often plan trips well in advance of arriving here and they like to research information from a variety of sources online,” he said. “The new site is a great resource for that.”

To request additional information about the site, please e-mail: info@natchezontheriver.com.

Great work, Ben.

Maybe the CVB could come and talk to you about how to reduce their budgeted expenditure from $35,000 and still get a high quality product on the web.

It appears that the amount of spending is suppose to impress us. I doubt they will top your work even with the $10,000 video.

Great job on the site, Ben. Looks good. I would link the URL though. Most people don't wanna copy and paste a web address.

Great site Ben, keep up the good work. You and Amelia both are a great credit to Natchez.

You know, with all the great, local websites for Natchez, why would the CVB need to spend a lot of money? Hell, just link the local websites to your current site.

Oh, I know, is it "one up manship" or is it ego? The later is probably the reason for the excess expenditure. Come on CVB,

The website looks great...too bad Natchez sucks.

OH! I forgot, we are referring to a group (CVB) who is in the spending mode not a profit mode.

Just imagine if the CVB had some accountability! If the CVB had some technology geeks on staff instead of DAs or want-to-be! Just imagine if CBV had etc, etc.

You know, I'm not originally from Natchez. So many of us who appreciate Natchez come from all over the country. Those who put down Natchez haven't "experienced the reasons" why we moved here. All in all, Natchez is a peaceful beautiful "little town" we should appreciate and take care of before it ends up like the rest of the poor world.

Although Natchez IS beautiful and I love to visit the family during the holidays, there is just not much to do and not much variety in shopping, nor going out to eat. I WOULD love to move back home to Natchez, my husband and I, but we need to be able to make a living where we can MORE than get by.

The web-site is very neatly done and I am glad it chronicles the Forks of the Road as well as NAPAC. I just wish when you clicked on the links to these and others, there are actual pictures and a brief synopsis of what the location is and it's history, instead of the address and phone number.

I love the new website. Cannot wait to visit Natchez again!
