Published Sunday, October 5, 2008
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Chris Williams carried an 83-yard punt return for a touchdown as he propelled New Mexico State to a 45-10 win over Alcorn State in Aggie Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Alcorn State dropped to 1-5 overall, 0-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
The Aggies controlled the scoreboard with an opening drive that lasted less than a minute and ended with a 57-yard touchdown run by Marquell Colston and an extra point by Kyle Hughes.

Yeah, the Braves can compete this year in the SWAC East, but they must put together a consistient offense to allow the defense to rest. The only way they will get better is the offensive coaching staff adjust to the skill level of the players mainly the young guys on the offensive line; they have 3 starting freshmen, a sophmore and a senior and until they get it together that's when there will be better play from the offense. Hopefully, they can start to gel in the trenches but until then it will be inconsistient play from the offense. As long as they continue to work hard, keep fighting and get the experience on the o-line they will get better. Go Braves!

I think the coach should use the 2 QB system. Buckley brings you the M. Vick style and Hobson can throw it once comfortable in the pocket. He got to get Hobson back in the groove.
Don't let the opponent get use to what you are doing. He got a good running back, use him. Once that offense gets in sink, it's on!!!!

I agree with OKBraveFan. The offensive line has got to get better. Play calling is suspect. Between the 3 running backs they carried the ball a total of 7 times. This was against a 3 man defensive front. This team was ranked 119 against the run. Its a lot easier to teach those young offensive lineman to run block than to pass block. You are not going to complete many passes downfield with 8 defenders against 4 receivers. The offensive coaches have got to fit the play calling to the talent of the players instead of trying to force the players to fit an offensive scheme they are not equipped for. We have 3 good running backs with different running styles. Why not use them? We should be driving defenses crazy with that mix. An establised running game will then open up the passing game. Use those tight ends to catch passes coach.

"If yall think Alcorn is good...... yall are crazy. Run what table? Lunch? The season is over for these boys......Good luck next year. I bet Natchez High can beat Alcorn. Sorry" That'sound about right from a guy that can not speak correct english. We have a chance to compete in the SWAC East what team in the SWAC East or for that case the SWAC this year is domiant how about none. This year the SWAC is mediocore at best. Defense wins games which ASU does have a decent defense, however their offense is inconsistient.

I agree with OKBraveFan. The offense has to get better on the offense line. Tony Hopson needs to be the QB, Tim Buckley, along with #5 Pilcher at the slot receiver position, kickoff and punt returns. Use #23 Brumfield, #26 Reilf, at the running back position. In my opinion this will give you the best opportunity to improve by getting all of your best skilled position people on the field. Establish the running game so that it will open up the passing game. Please don't forget to throw to those TE's #15 Pugh and #88 Tate.

WELL SINCE YOU CLAIM TO HAVE THE MOST COMMON SENSE THEN, WHO IS GOOD IN THE SWAC EAST BETTER YET WHO IS DOMIANT IN THE SWAC PERIOD THIS YEAR? IS SOUTHERN DOMIANT I THINK NOT OR IS GRAMBLING DOMIANT I THINK NOT. ALCORN IS COMPETITING THIS YEAR AGAINST TEAMS IN THE SWAC W/A NEW COACH AND REBUILDING A PROGRAM THIS YEAR. SOUTHERN WON 15-12 AGAINST ALCORN W/SUCH AN EXPLOSIVE OFFENSE PLEASE. SO WHOM DO YOU CONSIDER THAT IT IS SO MUCH SUPERIOR THAN ANY OTHER TEAM IN THE SWAC THIS YEAR. NONE ABSOLUTELY, NONE AT ALL. PLEASE, DO YOU EVEN KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL OR ARE YOU JUST BANDWAGON FAN OF WHOMEVER IS WINNING HUH?

Yeah, that sounds about right. I guess you can you use every excuse in the book to say why you so call team could not execute against a quote unquote inferior team please. If they are so much better at least they should have been able to execute and play to the level of that so call superiority you think they have. That's sound like a SU fan to give excuses as usually. We'll see where each team ends up in the long run and oh hopefully they are capable of playing to their full potential against so call other inferior teams.
