Arrests made in August drive-by

Published Wednesday, October 8, 2008

NATCHEZ — Gwendolyn Watson found her car being riddled with more bullets than she could count while driving down Dumas Drive, Aug. 17.

Three men opened fire on her and 15-year-old grandson before driving away, she said.

“The bullets sounded like something you would be fired on with if you were in a war,” Watson said. “If you see my car, you’ll see I’m lucky that I didn’t receive a bullet.”

Since the shooting, she has been afraid to go out at night, but she now has some relief.

Police arrested Justin McGuire, 19, 601 Old Washington Road, Apt. 5E, on charges of aggravated assault, extreme indifference to human life, in relation to the drive-by shooting. Police also arrested Chris Jones, 28, 601 Old Washington Road, Apt. 17, Charles Jones, 35, 601 Old Washington Road, Apt. 16B, and charged them in the shooting.

“I feel much better,” she said. “I do feel some relief, but there are still a whole lot more (of these people). My life was very much at stake.”

Police reports said the three men had an altercation with someone before the shooting. Watson believes the altercation involved her grandson and they shot at her out of mistaken identity.

“I think they thought it wasn’t me. I think they though it was my grandson,” she said.

Oh my Goodness!! These people act as though they can just parade around life doing whatever they please without consequences! And I'm personally upset with the fact that Justin McGuire was involved! He is a good friend of mine; in the same class through Junior High to High School together! He's a really good boy. It's sad to see my fellow classmates turn out this way.

They were shooting at a 15 yr old! Did you see their ages? Of course I have no idea what the earlier altercation was, but 3 grown men shooting at one teenager! You can't tell me that they did not know there were 2 people in the car before they opened fire. I just don't understand the total disregard to human life some people have these days to shoot at one person and not caring who else might get hurt.

Red,
I normally don't agree with you, but you are correct on this one. Why are these old dudes hanging with teenagers?

It is really sad when you read of ANYONE being involved in this type of foolishness but a 35 year old?! Someone still wants to be a gangster, dreams and aspirations I guess.

cudey...I have no idea
ta is spelled to
shootin' is spelled shooting

Hey, stop hanging with these thugs and go back to school, both of our futures depend on it.

This is Natchez.......heading to being just like Ferriday only bigger.

Posted by lsutiger21 (anonymous) on October 8, 2008 at 10:15 a.m. (Suggest removal)

okay flyingdutchman. not all crime happens in the black areas and not all black children have 18 year old "mammys" that word existed back during slavery and segregation. i can name several white girls who have dropped out of school because they got pregnant or just got pregnant and were under age 18. Don't point all the fingers at black people because there is evidence right around you. stop with the racist comments, its the 21st century. let it go.

APPLES DON'T FALL TO FAR FROM THE TREE!!!!!
THEY NEED TO SHUT DOWN, AND TEAR DOWN THOSE APARTMENTS.. RIVER OAKS(FIRST NAME) . NOW HOLIDAY APTS. (HELL-A DAY) APARTMENTS

Posted by lsutiger21 (anonymous) on October 8, 2008 at 10:22 a.m. (Suggest removal)

So now we're incorporating Ferriday into it too? We're not even gonna get started with those corrupt policemen out there. The cities take away the recreational activities from the kids and what are the left to do? Nothing but cause trouble. There's no longer swimming pools in both Ferriday and Natchez. I'm from Vidalia and I used to take swimming lessons at Duncan Park. I loved every minute of it and nothing ever filled that void when I was small. I'm not going to say that most of the crime doesn't happen through the black community, but it happens everywhere. Don't just say all blacks cause crime to happen. That's unfair to those of us who were raised to have respect for all people, regardless of backgrounds.

Posted by freedom42 (anonymous) on October 8, 2008 at 10:46 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Do you even know why there are no pools or other public recreation in this area. Because everything gets torn up by vandals and the cities can't afford to keep rebuilding them.

Im not gonna cast judgment on the individuals because I don't reserve that right, only HE does. I am gonna say that what they did was stupid as H**L. Your shooting at an old lady and a kid, pisses me off. This type of thing makes us look bad as a whole.

Why aren't they being charged with attempted murder? They tried to shoot another person, for crying out loud.

If these guys are found guilty, I hope they get locked away for a long, long time. Violent crime in our country is getting out of control. Young boys look up to the older, local street thugs who shouldn't even be out on the streets. The young boys get older, and the cycle continues...

I have posted this before and here goes again-

601 Washington St, those apartments are infested with lowlife drug dealers, bad check bouncers, burglars, thieves, etc

This is a nest of crime and violence

I'm sure there are a few innocents there, they should move out and this place should be dozed down or set fire, or something, whatever it takes to stop this nonsense

Everyone agrees this is really outrageous and HAS TO STOP, we cannot tolerate thugs like this shooting up a woman and grandson, who appareantly were helpless to defend themselves. Cowards -- they don't deserve the mercy of being arrested, tried, convicted and imprisoned but should be gunned down as they would do to others. But then we would be no better than they. Maybe they'll come to my neighborhood. I think my .45 would serve justice on them, along with a 12 gauge slug and buckshot just to be sure.

So Natchez, MS is the new Compton, CA. WOW!!! I can say that I agree totally with "Happyreader", with suggestion of an attempted murder charge. This is something that the DA, Sheriff's office and many elected government officials should pursue. The message needs to be driven home the forceful way to these low-life, cowardly, immoral thugs. I am not a native Natchezian, but I feel your pain.

Do not sit idly back and let this family go through this alone. Stir up some stuff in Natchez enough to let the thugs know that a crime of this nature IS NOT and WILL NOT be tolerated! Take back your streets! Don't complain about the crime. Get involved in your neighboorhoods clean up the streets of this "TRASH". Take your concerns to Natchez Hill, and then if they don't listen, got to Capitol Hill.

My point is it doesn't make sense to complain about Natchez, it's streets and broken down, drug-infested, crime ridden communities, if you turn your back and look the other way!

Old school....Concerning the wearing of ones pants so low their drawers show...

Several years ago I caught the Paul Harvey show. The subject was about what the kids call "sagging", the wearing of one's pants so low their drawers hang out. Mr. Harvey researched "sagging". It started in prison. If a prisoner was "sagging" it meant he was "available"and had no "boyfriend"..... How weird that this caught on not only with the young black kids but whites as well...I wonder if they really know what sagging means and if they did would they still wear their pants down low making them look like like morons? How stupid!!! Let's spread the true meaning of 'sagging'...This should make them think twice before announcing that they are available..

Sounds kinda fishy to me! why would they(the shooters ) be expecting a 15yr old boy to be driving around in a car, does he even have a licence? Why would the Grandmother think that grown men were looking for her grandson any? I know all parties involved and the Grandma and the rest of her daughters know whats really going on! Hmmm?

OKAY,IF THEY DOZE DOWN RIVEROAKS WHERE ARE THEY GONNA GO?? THEY'LL HAVE TO FIND A HOME RIGHT?... IMAGINE THEM VACATING RIVER OAKS AND FINDING HOMES IN YOUR NEIGHBOR HOOD!!!!!!
