Isle closes due to Gustav, no date set to reopen
Published Monday, September 1, 2008
NATCHEZ — The Isle of Capri casino closed Sunday afternoon due to Hurricane Gustav.
The casino received an order to close from the Mississippi Gaming Commission.
Isle of Capri Vice President and General Manager Tony Scudiero said he does not know when the casino will reopen.
“It’s a wait and see type thing,” he said. “There’s no telling what this crazy thing is going to do.”
He said what’s most important is safety of the casino’s employees and guests.
“That’s the main thing that people are safe,” Scudiero said.

it seems like the Isle of Capri had to close because the casinos on the coast had to close--if Biloxi can't make money, nobody can make money? I hope they shut Tunica down too--no likelier that Natchez will have dangerous weather than Tunica will!

No. It has nothing to do with the casinos on the coast.
The Isle closed because no one should be on a moored boat in 70 mile per hour winds. No one would want to be on it if it tore loose and headed for the bridge. The employees want to be home with their families. We will have power outages and the casino can not operate or go through the closing procedures without power. The procedures for closing the boat take about 8 hours, and you can't wait till the last minute to do that.
That is just a few of the good reasons for closing the casino.

Okay, they aren't getting 70 MPH winds in Houma or New Orleans, so they are doubtful in Natchez. Officials are believing the media rather than actual meteorologists.
Not that it only happens there--in DC during Isabel they closed the Metro believing TV weather & journalists that winds would top 45 MPH... NWS said no, and they never did, but the whole town shut down anyway.

Better to be safe than sorry!

Wow! That money must really be burning a hole in your pocket. Run on down to the convenience store and buy a deck of cards. Get a few friends over and play some poker.
If you are really desperate, you could get some sidewalk chalk from one of the neighborhood kids and draw up a craps table on the porch.
That should give you a quick fix.

Sure looks like 70 mph winds out there right now. I am amazed that I have power. Looks like all that tree trimming helped.

For a short time a few people didn't lose their money.

HMM I know from when I worked at The Isle, The wind can be much worse being there is a natural channel for the wind to blow down or up the Mississippi River. They needed to shut down for SAFETY 1st then for security reasons 2nd.

They shut it down for the safety of the patrons and the employees. It was a good decision. I am glad they did it. At least greed did not get in the way of safety.

Dynagirl...I'm 15 minutes from Tunica casinos and went Labor Day afternoon. I can report that all is well in Tunica and came home with a little moo-lah ! : o )
