More areas receive power in town, 7,000 still without power
Published Wednesday, September 3, 2008
NATCHEZ — On Tuesday night many downtown residents received an unexpected treat — electricity.
Entergy’s customer service manager Stephen Caruthers said many large sections of the downtown area, and surrounding areas, were able have power restored between 8:30 and 10:30 p.m.
Caruthers said areas around the mall; Wal-Mart and K-Mart had their power restored.
“The ball is rolling,” he said.
However, Caruthers said it could be Saturday before some residential areas in Natchez get power again.
“We’re doing all we can,” he said.
Caruthers estimated there were still 7,000 residents in Natchez with no power,

Google Entergy to find a site which will show local outages.
For instance:

Well thank goodness the the stores and businesses have gotten power on so they can make a buck. What about people's homes? What about people like my mother who are elderly and have medical equipment that depend on electricity? It gets mighty hot in a small house this time of year. I just thank God that my family made it through this horrible hurricane alive. I pray for all of you that had damage or injuries. I also pray for the power to be restored to EVERYone soon because, for some, it is a matter of life or death---not a luxury or a "treat" as the paper calls it.

Actually I expected the power to be out for the whole week
Thank you all the electrical workers for braving the wind and rain, being hungry, tired, and wet, but getting the job done. You all did a good job moving quickly to get power back on

My only gripe is that I don't understand (other than the excuse of high cost ) why Entergy doesn't go ahead and put more power lines UNDERGROUND. I'm sure there are ways to put lines underground, yet still be able to service them as needed, such as run them in pvc pipe or something like that. With all the trees we have, it makes sense to me to put powerlines underground, seems like in the long run it would SAVE money as less repairs would be needed. I guess it would be impracticle to put transformers in the ground, but those could be on poles still.
