Man allegedly pistol-whips

Published Thursday, September 11, 2008

NATCHEZ — A domestic dispute turned violent Tuesday night and Darnell A. Houseworth, 19, 111 Ann Holden Lane, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly pistol-whipping Kenneth Carver.

When Natchez Police officer, Vince Bates arrived at 111 Ann Holden Lane, Carver was “bleeding profusely from the face and head area,” the police report said.

Carver then told Bates that Houseworth hit him with something. Carver was transferred to Natchez Community Hospital with a broken jaw and a broken nose.

However, Houseworth told police that the event was started when Kenneth Carver hit Houseworth’s mother, Mia Carver.

“Darnell went outside and asked his dad Kenneth why he hit his mother,” the report said. “At that time Darnell said he got angry and hit Kenneth in the face with a 380 Hi-Point handgun… and a second time on the back of his head.”

“Mr. Carver was not charged with anything yet,” Natchez Police Sgt. Craig Godbold said. “We’re still trying to wade through it.”

However, there have been many domestic violence calls between Mia and Kenneth Carver.

“We have had numerous complaints at that house,” Godbold said.

Houseworth turned himself into police and brought the gun with him. He is being held awaiting bond.

Men should know not to put there hands on someones mom.... I bet he will think twice before he hits Darnells mom again.....He did just what he should have done...I hope they let him go with what maybe simple assault...If anything..

If it was my mom, I would have shot him.

He shouldn't be charged with anything.

The only problem for him is the pistol. It is a deadly weapon wether your fire it or hit someone with it. He did the right thing, but should have used his fist.

Hey, I'm pulling for Darnell Houseworth on this one! You're right ((ProNatchez)), Carver would be dead this morning after hitting my mama.

I wish Mr. Houseworth wouldn't be charged, but this is the good ole system and the bad guy gets away.

Charge him with being a good kid.....and let him off.

Since he was defending his mother, maybe he should have made better use of the gun to ensure this would not happen again. Hopefully he does not have to serve time, too bad the whole situation can not stop here with learned lessons.

Gotta be for Darnell Houseworth on this.
Anyone who loves their Mama would have done the same thing. This boy should be treated the same way the 14 year old Ferriday boy was that broke his step grandfathers jaw then when the man pointed a gun at the boy he took the gun away & shot him in his leg. All this was done because he had hit the boys grandmother who had raised him. Kids can take years of physical abuse then just can't take anymore. He was told just last week by the judge to just leave Concordia Parish. I think the judge would have done the same thing.

The kid should not be charged with anything. His mother should be charged for having a piece trash living in her home or living in his home. Remember kids live what they learn and that is the reason(s) our sons and daughers grow up to be abusers or allow themselves to be abuse. I hope Mr. husband get 99 years in prison and Mrs. Wife get 99 years in a mental institution becasue something is mighty wrong with her.

Way to go Darnell! If Darnell's use of a handgun is going to cause him an issue, ( I don't understand why it should) next time some other choice weapons would be a shovel, hammer or a good old heavy cast iron skillet. Mia, get out now while you can! It makes no sense for there to be domestic call after domestic call to that residence.

Even though I don't know Darnell I'm pulling for him also . The gun is going to be a serious issue though . Just glad he maintained composure enough not to kill this bum . Anyway this thug now knows to keep his hands off other folks parents .

he should be charged with two counts of aggravated assault at least

Posted by Krogers (anonymous) on September 11, 2008 at 9:40 a.m. (Suggest removal)

depending on Mia's testimony, Kenneth should be the one charged, as Darnell was acting in defense of himself and his mom

Krogers, with multiple calls to that residence as the article indicates, it's doubtful that Mia will. What does it take for you to either leave an obvious fool or put them out! I am sure if she has been on the receiving end of the domestic calls, if she wanted to by now, this "relationship" could have been severed by now. I don't blame law enforcement's stance now on domestic violence. When they show up, SOMEONE's going to jail. Many an officer have been injured or killed dealing with domestic violence situations only for the abused to take the abuser back. Simply asanine!

i am all for the son beating the wrong out of the man. BUT REALITY they should have called the police and them handle it. in the article it says the boy walked out and asked the man. that right there should have been the moment in calling 911 easier said then done i'm sure but now this boy will have a fine and court... just saying

Teach4Peace, that's the reason why some police officers don't respond to repeat domestic "disputes". The women keep going back to the men. That is dangerous. I'm not saying this is the situation. I'm just responding to what you said at the end of your comment. A lot of things you say about abuse is true and makes a lot of sense. Sometimes, I speak as if I am against or don't agree with you, but I'm not. Those times, I speak from experience. I just wanted you to know that.

I'm pulling for Darnell also. I don't know him but he should not be in jail. The young man was doing what any son would do, protecting his mother. As some of you say the mother should have put the guy out, we don't know why she didn't but sometimes women are scare, some think it's love, who knows? Regardless men need to understand women are not their children, nor their property. As they say the police has been called to this residence other times, this young man was tired of this man hitting his mom, so he did what he had to do. I say let him out and arrest the father. GOOD GOING DARNELL!!! I thank God he didn't use the gun the other way but glad he used it the way he did. I know some of you said he should get charged with something, but I think not. The paper stated that he walked out side and asked his father why he hit his mother being mad who knows how he answer the young man that was also mad and fed up with this situation.

wow, how hard did he hit his momma, in order to get pistol whooped??? DANG!!!!

Posted by daris (anonymous) on September 11, 2008 at 11:34 a.m. (Suggest removal)

You know i don't usually commit twice, but I had to say this. I have always said that men that fight women are scared little boys that feel like they are powerful and in control by fighting women but would not fight another man, this guy proved that. He could fight a woman but when he was approached by another man which is a 19 year old he let his pistol whip him.

I dont' advocate violence, but when you throw Mom in the mix, you get what's coming to ya!

buttercup26
If they had called the police they would have called it domestic violence & left. The boy did the only thing he could do. As far as we know the police may have been called in the past & did nothing.
The man was lucky Darnell didn't shot him which is what he would have deserved.

Like most of the others have said "don't XXXX with someones Mother .Darnell Houseworth should get an award, maybe a good citizens award,or maybe even start a new award "Don't Mess With Moma Award".
Bottom line he did the right thing because he was probably gonna kill him but he changed his mind at the last minute and at that point he already had the gun so he did the next best thing, and if Kenneth Carver has any brains at all he will never lay another hand on that lady, and that will help the police out too. Vote Today : "Don't Mess With Moma Award"

((overthehill60)) true.. it took ME at 15 calling the law on my dad to stop him hitting my mom. i was just saying REALITY the young man will get the crap end of the deal for sticking up for his momma. KUDOS TO HIM FOR NOT SHOOTING HIM DEAD!! i wouldn't of had a gun in my hand for any other reason but that..

I know darnell personally, there is alot going on with that family that you all don't know about. This has been going on for years. This kid has been doing the best that he can. He even came and stayed with me for a couple of weeks and i got him a job and he was working, but his social worker made him come back to natchez. There are also little girls messed up in all this mess, so if you will, pray for my friend and his little sisters and brother, i know i will be.

USMBOY, we are praying for the kids.

Well, I did not say that he should have shot him. I said that I would have shot him. I just read back through all of the posts and no one said he should have shot him. Most applaud Darnell for not pulling the trigger.
