Cathedral Lady Wave softball team blasts rival St. Aloysius
Published Tuesday, September 23, 2008
NATCHEZ — The Cathedral Lady Wave slow-pitch softball team did their part to avenge Cathedral’s last-second loss to rival St. Aloysius on the football field last Friday, blasting the Lady Flashes 23-0 Monday evening.
The Lady Wave pounded out 25 hits in the contest, which lasted only three innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Cathedral scored seven runs in the first inning, nine in the second and seven more in the third to end the game.
Elizabeth Blackwell and Mae Durkin each had four hits for the Lady Wave while Betsy Daggett, Ginny Daggett both had three and Rachel Smilo, Anna Huffines, Melissa Cavin, Epiphany Jackson and Zoie Arnold all had two hits.
Smilo was the winning pitcher, allowing just one hit in the victory.
Cathedral will travel to take on Bogue Chitto Thursday in its final regular season game.
If they win the game by two runs, they’ll make the playoffs.
