Published Saturday, August 1, 2009
NATCHEZ — Natchez police have arrested the man who allegedly shot a Natchez resident in the back of the head this week.
Arthur Johnson Sr., 55, 106 E. Franklin St., was shot in the head Tuesday night while trying to break up a fight on Lincoln Street.
He was recently released from the University Medical Center in Jackson, and was able to identify his shooter, Natchez Police Sgt. Craig Godbold said.
A warrant was issued Friday for Jarvis Washington, 33, who was arrested at 7 p.m. at 1018 Martin’s Lane.
He is being charged with aggravated assault.

Just so everybody knows, MS has no attempted murder charge under state law. Makes about as much sense as putting running shoes on a rooster.

A coward runs up behind someone and shoots them in the head. I would love to go one on one with this yellow loser.

This bum shoots a man in the back of the head and all he gets is an aggravated assault charge . Folks this is why the crime rate is so high in this country . I can hardly blame anyone if they decide to take the law in their own hands . Especially since it appears to be geared toward protecting the common trash criminals that reside in this society . Oh well , there's a good side to this . At least someone can blow Jarvis's brains out when they see him on the streets and get a lessor charge for murdering a worthless thug .

If you got shot in the back of the head, how do you know who shot you? Think about it.

And on top of all of that,Jarvis is a convicted felon so possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is 5 yrs. Then discharging one in city limits and then shooting someone in the head at close range like that.sounds like an assassination attempt. Then the only way Jarvis blind, crossed eyed a_ _ could hit someone is at close range.

Goodmommy, please get a clue. Did you even attempt to think about your question before you asked it? Mr. Johnson is a very blessed man and was able to identify the assailant and have him arrested.
kshollywood, what in the world does foodstamps, welfare, and ssi have to do with anything. Ohh, maybe you were standing in line behind him. Everyone that commits a crime is not a welfare or foodstamp recipient.

Goodmommy, point taken, could it be the NPD's position to protect the witnesses who saw the crime by naming the victim? Just a thought..ps.. this is the ND paper that does not explain in detail all of it's stories, most of the time.

If it were not for our so called 'Civil Liberty's Union's' and oh so liberal law makers, perhaps the country could have proper and justified punishment for violent offenders. As it stands, there are far too many lilly livered liberals who don't believe in punishment for crimes committed. Thus we let the guilty go free. I believe if you commit a violent crime against another human being, you should be punished in the same manner as the crime you committed!

Think of it from this point of view for just a moment. If you knew, ABSOLUTELY KNEW, that when you committed a violent crime against a fellow human being, and were caught, that you would suffer the same pain and anguish that you inflicted, you would be less likely to commit such a crime. The knowing would be quiet the deterent.
