Holidays heat up good news
Published Monday, December 7, 2009
The last week was full of Christmas cheer. With three parades, a concert, caroling and a few visits from Santa, any Scrooges out there have had their chance to change their ways.
The coming weeks bring more of the same Christmas activity, but before we rush back to the malls, the kitchens and our holiday busyness, let’s review the great news last week brought to the Miss-Lou.
• No one in the area can claim credit, but it was certainly good news that for most that snow fell Friday night. The white stuff makes us all smile a little, especially when it isn’t bad enough to stall traffic.
• A group from Alcorn State University and city tourism agencies is working to form a class on Southern hospitality. The class will teach local restaurant, gas station and shop employees what they need to know about welcoming visitors to Natchez. The idea is a great one, and the class is overdue. We hope this group hits the ground running.
• Natchez resident Mike Lomasney is donating his time to restore some Natchez classics — the International Paper Christmas decorations. Lomasney’s hard work will hopefully result in a few extra smiles on the bluff. With more volunteers like Lomasney, Natchez will become the Christmas wonderland it should be.
• Students at the Middleton School of Dance put on their annual performance of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” Thursday. The show is a great local favorite; congratulations to all those who participated.
We wish you a merry week, and plenty of Christmas cheer.
