Centreville gets up and down win

Published Saturday, December 12, 2009

BAKER, La. — The way the Centreville Tigers played in the first half of their MAIS District 5-AA game at Central Private was like a roller coaster — up one quarter, down the next.

However, the second half was a lot more even as far as offensive productivity was concerned and the end result was a 53-44 win over the Rebels Friday night to remain undefeated in district play.

Centreville (6-3, 2-0) did little wrong in the first quarter when it had the ball en route to a 20-14 lead. But the second quarter was a completely different story as the Tigers managed to score just seven points and trailed Central Private 28-27 at halftime.

The third quarter resembled that of the second quarter with one big exception — while the Tigers were scoring, the Rebels had a hard time getting shots to fall. Centreville outscored Central Private 15-5 to take a 42-33 lead.

Jamie Dezendorf led Centreville with a game-high 20 points and Colby Lockwood added 12 points. Lance Wicker finished with 18 points and Jason Young chipped in with 10 points to lead Central Private.

Central School 46

GRAND CANE, La. — Kevin Brown, Blaine Fletcher and Matthew Humphries combined to score 50 points as the Huntington Hounds got their most impressive win of the season Friday night — a 28-point rout of the Central School Pioneers.

Brown led all scorers with 29 points while Fletcher ended up with 11 points and Humphries had 10 points for Huntington (4-6), which jumped out to a 21-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and then took a commanding 48-20 halftime lead.

Central School was led by B. Allison with 27, but the next high scorer for the Pioneers was M. Holmes with nine points.

ACCS 39, Silliman 37

CLINTON, La. — Only four players for Adams County Christian School managed to get in the scoring column, yet they held on for a two-point win in the Rebels’ MAIS District 5-AA opener Friday night.

ACCS (7-5, 1-0) took a 12-7 lead over Silliman after one quarter of play and managed to keep that five-point lead at the end of the third quarter. The Wildcats tried to rally in the fourth quarter, but the Rebels escaped with the two-point win.

The Rebels were led by Lee Swinney with 15 points, Daniel Guedon with 11 points and Dillon Johnson with 10 points. Silliman’s Bonze led all scorers with 17 points.

WCCA 72, Tensas Academy 51

ST. JOSEPH, La. — Tip McKenzie poured in a game-high 27 points and Luke Whitaker had 13 points to lead a balanced scoring attack as the WCCA Rams rolled past the Tensas Academy Chiefs Friday night.

WCCA (5-4) led Tensas Academy (2-4) by just five points at the end of the first quarter. But the second quarter proved to be a big factor as the Rams outscored the Chiefs 17-8 for a 33-19 lead at halftime. The second half was more of the same as the Rams continued to add to their lead.

Austin Emfinger led Tensas Academy with 24 points and Jon Truman James chipped in with 18 points.
