Another Natchez Walmart employee arrested

Published Thursday, February 5, 2009

NATCHEZ — Another arrest has been made in connection with acts of embezzlement and shoplifting at the Natchez Walmart, and police officials say they expect more to come.

Over the past few weeks, the Natchez Police Department has been working in conjunction with Walmart in making arrests on five cashiers and one door greeter for allegedly shoplifting or embezzling $7,935.94 worth of merchandise.

Now, Angie Council, 21, 101 Highway 33, Fayette, has been arrested on charges of embezzlement for allegedly taking $1,243.48 in goods.

Sgt. Craig Godbold said Council was identified as a suspect through Walmart’s internal investigation, and an affidavit was signed for her arrest on Jan. 27.

“We had been trying to get her to turn herself in,” Godbold said. “(Tuesday) we gave her a choice of either turning herself in or we’d come get her.”

She turned herself in on Tuesday.

Godbold said Walmart is still identifying other employees involved in the scam in which employees are only charged a minimal amount of money for a large amount of items.

Clothes, electronics, food and more have been taken from Walmart at discounted prices in the total amount of $9,179.42.

The employees have allegedly been ringing each other up, but only charging each other for a few items among many.

The items were scanned across the device that would deactivate the barcode, thus preventing the items from setting off the store alarm. But most items were not scanned by the device that charges the items.

i hate walmart!!! but this is really no surprise to anyone, or at least it shouldn't be this has been going on for years...i know of several people who have worked there and got tvs and such for little to nothing..
Walmart hasn't been rolling back prices because its workers are rolling out merchandise.....

It made Monroe news. Times are hard for everyone and I'm glad they got caught.

These people have probably all been helping their friends and neighbors and not just other employees. I hope they catch all of them and put them in jail.

It made the front page of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, which is a state wide paper.

First of all if people do not like or hate wal-mart so bad why is it always packed in there when ever I'm there. and second all the employees are not thieves and have poor customer service. I know for a fact Mr.Septer do not stand for that. Now, for the individuals that was caught up in that mess ,they did not have that to do.That was a bad choice that they made on themselves being greedy not thinking that they were going to get caught. we all have choices and i hope that they learned from them. have any of us ever stopped to think how we approach sales people in the store with our attitudes not realizing what we are doing, that makes them have one back. even though they are suppose to stay courteous at all times .

This happened in Winnsboro. There, they were taking items out the back door of the store through the store room, and bring it back in the front exchanging them for other like items. The "new" items, were then scanned by customer service, and could be taken out the front door.

I never got to post a comment in the first few articles because they were disabled, but this has been going on since the early days when Wal-Mart was near the shopping center on Devereaux Drive.

For example, back then the workers in electronics would "even exchange" the "defective" good for another like item of equal value.

Instead, the "person" would bring in some piece of crap vcr, stereo, etc....and the employee would write it up for an exchange and personally walk them to the door if they had someone working the register in their dept.

Corporate had to know what was going on because someone had to inventory all the junk that was piling up in the back and reference what it was originally swapped out for.

Anyways, they guy was eventually caught and nothing was ever done. And I know we were talking $5-6 thousand dollars (back in the early 90's!!) I've seen him around town and looks as though karma has had her way with him anyway.

I could elaborate as to "WHY" he was never brought to justice, etc....., but that would just be the same old song and dance that helped many at that establishment skirt any charge or accusation.

Thank You "SUNSHINE LADY"
Everyone that is employed by Walmart are not thieves and cutomer service is not bad. I see people all time trying to tie up the lines in there by either already talking on cell as they make there purchase or answeing there cell is more important than getting there purchases made, leaving others customers to wait until they get finish talking and they decide to checkout. "NOW THAT IS PLAIN RUDE OF THE CUSTOMER" ! Perhaps everyone who has nothing else to do but downplay Walmart should go to WALL STREET and see what happen to the 18 Billions of dollars the CEO's stole from the taxpayers and "WHY"? At least WALMART CEO is not stealing from company and asking for the taxpayers to help in the mess they made. With a store of that magnitude "Hats off to Mr. Stepter" You do a wonderful job and you are only one person. Keep doing what you are doing.

You would think that with all the extra money the employees are pulling down through theft, they would be a little happier.

Without exception, Natchez Walmart has the worst customer service, the highest percentage of teen to 30 age women with dairyqueen hairdo's who sneer, sigh, and then sarcastically tell you where what you asked for is - if they dont say "dat aint mah depatment" and ignore you - of ANY store I have gone to.
JC Penny in the mall is a very close second but Walmart wins out through sheer numbers.

When I shop I go out of town for anything of value, even if it means losing money.

Don't tell me about low pay, bad hours, no benefits - I have had several jobs in which all or most of those apply and I was never as rude as these idiots are.

Funny, if you think of the billions of dollars of business Walmart does world wide, they wouldnt even notice 10 grand... and here it is front page news.

Natchez thieves make national news! Boy, sure makes this place seem a wonderful destination! "Hey yall, let's go to Natchez for the weekend....I hear they have the craftiest thieves in the nation!" "Yeah, let's go!"

The young lady in the deli department at Vidalia's Wally World is mean, mean. I try to be nice everytime but she just throws my hot wings at me and turns her back. What's the manager's name in Vidalia?

Although it is a little better now, for a long time anytime I went to the auto department I felt like the staff was trying to talk me out giving them my business. If I wanted an oil change they would go on and on about how long it would take, so many cars ahead of me, was I sure I wanted to wait, etc. Usually I'd count a few cars in front of me, and insist I would wait. Sure enough, every time, my car would be ready in a very reasonable time - they just didn't want to do it in the first place.

I totally agree with the crappy customer service in Wal-mart MOST of the time, most of those spun sugar headed, mouth clicking, attitude having girls make me want to go on a shooting spree, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. I've been in there a couple of times after midnight and there is the nicest older black lady with gray hair that works the cigarette counter that goes out of her way to help people. She is the only reason that I will go in that hell hole...I went to her shift manager and let him know in front of her that she was doing a wonderful job and that she deserved to be treated well. I'm not sure if he took it any farther than that, but as soon as I get her name the next time I go in there I'm going to write corporate about her.

i my self love wallyworld and for all the theiving going on what is the man doing always walking around walmart(trieing to watch for theives) where was he when all this was going on? this man has been there for years and for all those that go in walmart u must have seen him cuz everytime i go in there he walking around looking? why is he getting paid and for what? he's too busy walking around lookin stupid like he buying something. i know this same crap happened about a year or so ago and the woman that got caught killed herself. so if they are going to do something they need to do it  before someone else takes there life. walmart is always trying to make an example out of someone and about the ceo how u know they not stealing what u work with them. walmart is a trillion dollar business world wide forget the billions cuz walmart is way past that. it is not right but the way i have seen people at walmart done u think  they committed murder instead of just stealing something. they need additonal guards with there plain old clothing in there just like the one man that works for them. all the money they make and they arre to cheap to hire extra help in guards to watch for this kind of thing walmart is greedy with there money and nerve racking to work for from what i hear. they work u to death , long hours ,to short of breaks, and the employees deal with a great deal of nasty rude customers i know cuz i am a business owner myself. hope no one kills there self this time walmart not worth it. we should have a target or something here cuz walmart takes 30  minutes to get checked out cuz once again they are cheap . they have like 40 cash registers and only 5 are open. what ??????????

Posted by sexysigmalady (anonymous) on February 5, 2009 at 8:50 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Honeybee, no registers are open because the cashiers are in there shopping for themselves, and getting the low, low prices.........ALWAYS!
the difference in wat happened with that employee that committed suicide is because that person was management. If management does something wrong, they TRANSFER them. Regular salaried employees get made an example out of. Im not making excuses for them "sliding" merchandise, but there should not be TWO sets of rules. Stealing is stealing, PERIOD!!!!
Besides, those employees that recently got arrested are just the tip of the iceberg!!!!!! There are gonna be some more, and it's gonna turn out to be management......watch!

We need more SUNSHINELADYs folks! If all checkout people had this good attitude, we wouldn't be posting this stuff. Thanks for being a sweetie, SUNSHINE.

I'm going to get my hotwings today and hope she is nice. I'll try, again, to make her smile, but if not I'm gonna have to say something to her. I don't want to get her fired but the same bad attitude every day gets old. Maybe I should tell her "you'd be pretty if you smiled".

Here is a great Idea go to the head honcho of the company and sign a petition to have him investigate Wal-Mart in the area... be sure to go over the district and do not deal with headquarters junkies just go to the top... enough people protest and sign the petition then the MAN will look in to it!!!

The women in the Deli in Natchez are rude, also. I ordered about $300 worth of stuff from the deli around Christmas and when I went to pick up my order, one of the ladies was so rude - she snapped at me when I reached for the food that I had paid for. Every time I ask where something is located, I get an arm thrown in the air and the words "over there." Where is over there? Siouxlady is right - there is a lot of discouragement in the work place today but I know a lot of people who are disabled and would rather be working. Therefore, if you are able to get up each day to go to a job, that's a lot to be thankful for.

Funny how some women can "Roll Back Prices" at WalMart and it is big news across the nation, but Grand Soleil can steal over $30,000,000 from a tribe of Native Americans and file for bankruptcy and it doesn't even get coverage in the local paper.

The Lac du Flambeau tribe got taken to the cleaners. They will never see a penny of that money. It's a shame. I don't know how some people sleep at night.

I am so tired of going to read an article in this paper and it is "comments disabled". Unless the comments state a persons name in slander why remove the comments? People from all over read this paper (and may not always comment, but it is read!)leave the raciest, bigoted and ignorant comments posted let the people read what the citizens of this town really think. ND why are you trying to play god with your censorship it is truly a joke! Why not just do away with this online comments section, who are you trying to protect? If the comments get to raciest let it be... let everyone see what kind of people live here, writting behind the (anonymous) moniker. ND if you were truly concerned with preserving the city's good name you would have done away with this comment section long ago and only print letters to the editor in the newspaper.

In Vidalia the people that are suppose to be checking people leaving are usually talking to a customer & ignoring the customers. When they do take time to check they just put a check on the list and never look at the merchandise.
Sure they have cameras in the back on customers, but the people in the office watching them are having the time of their life sitting back gossiping about people they see walking around in the store.

Hardcops, the person in the deli that I was talking about happened to be white. I am not picking on any race - I am annoyed with poor customer service no matter what race one happens to be. Young white men are some of the rudest group of people that I have come across lately. It is not about race.

There are some very, very nice and polite employees at our local Walmarts who also do a fine job. Unfortunately, there are some who are the complete opposite. It is a management problem. When there are employees who are not doing a good job and are not displaying common courtesy towards the customers, it becomes a liability to the welfare of the store and management should take that into consideration. Management should eliminate those employees ASAP, there are too many people out there who need a job for a large company like Walmart to have to put up with lazy, rude employees who drive customers away.

Consider_reason, what did you mean about your comment

People have the choice to wear their hair the
way they want to. There is this lady named Tanya
that works there and her hair is gorgeous. She goes
out of her way to help customers all the time. I even saw her in housewears helping a customer and I think she
works in the grocery department. Everytime I see her she is
smiling and she speaks to everyone. I even asked her one
day when I saw her speaking to some customers and they
didn't even speak, how could she speak and they don't speak back. She told me that some people don't like to speak but it doesn't matter because she likes everybody
whether they speak or not.
