Burns to have exhibit, workshop

Published Sunday, February 8, 2009

Natchez — Natchez artist Conner Burns will exhibit at River Oaks Art Center in Alexandria, La. and teach a workshop at Louisiana College in Pineville, La.

The exhibition of his work at the River Oaks Art Center in Alexandria is titled “now therefore cross over, go” and will include new work made by Burns.

The exhibition’s opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 27. The exhibition will continue through April 11.

In February Burns will teach a workshop at Louisiana College in Pineville on Feb. 28.

The topic of the workshops will be “creating composite vessels” and is open to the public. For additional information about the exhibition or the workshops — visit www.connerburns.com.

In April, Burns will send work to Phoenix to the La Mesa exhibit at the National Council of Education in the Ceramics Arts National Convention where Santa Fe Clay will host the exhibition. The exhibit is of selected artists from across North America. Each artist submits a dinnerware set for the exhibition.

Burns is a local artist who makes artwork and teaches workshops across the nation to both professional and amateur artists and weekly classes locally at Natchez Clay.

His work has been featured in books about teapots, bowls, glazes, cups and pitchers and has received awards from galleries, art festivals, art associations and national clay organizations. Burns’ work has been exhibited widely and is in private collections across Europe, Asia and the United States.

Burns makes vessels that are single fired and glazed with natural glazes that are subtle in both color and texture.

His work is organic and his intent is to have each piece look as if it “grew that way” rather than something that was made.

The Gallery of Conner Burns is located at 209 Franklin St. in downtown Natchez.
