Mom shoots at daughter's evening date
Published Saturday, January 3, 2009
NATCHEZ — Hell has no fury like a mother who thinks her daughter’s honor has been tarnished.
Adams County sheriff’s deputies responded to an incident on Upper Kingston Road in which shots were fired Wednesday.
A 35-year-old male was dropping a 31-year-old female date at her mother’s residence after the couple was out all night, when the woman’s 50-year-old mother reportedly began to verbally assault him, Sheriff Ronny Brown said.
“The mother came out and cussed him and took a pistol and, he says, shot three times at him,” Brown said.
Deputies spoke to the 50-year-old woman, who reportedly claimed she discharged the firearm into the air, Brown said.
The man’s car had a bullet hole in it, and he told the ACSO he wants to file charges but has not done so yet, Brown said.
Names were not released in the incident because no charges have been filed, Brown said.

At 31 years old, if your honor has not been tarnished yet, it needs to be.

They should put this on Jay Leno's "headlines".
Sounds like somebody's mama needs to let go, but how can she when baby girl needs to be gone from mama's house?

I'm hoping my honor will get tarnished tonight. You're right hutch39120. There is nothing wrong with virginity, but a little tarnish never hurt anyone.
I'm just sayin'. :)

Maybe Moms was shooting 'cause he hasn't married her and moved her out yet........Not a matter of Virginity. If your gonna Milk the Cow you need to take old Bessy out the Barn........so she don't know when the Cows come home, The Rooster starts crowin' real early...........These days!

I wanted to do the same thing once, but had a little respect for my daughter and her choices. Anyway, why bash the woman for living with her mom? In today's economy we will probably see lots of that, and as long as the "adult offspring" help with bills and chores I see nothing wrong with it. Nor do I see anything wrong with being a virgin until marriage, but the article says nothing about that - just that they came home very late or early depending on your point of view. Maybe mom just doesn't like the boyfriend.

This doesn't add up. It's actually funny.
There's has to more to the incident than they are telling. If there's wasn't more it's looks like the woman would be sitting in jail for assult with a deadly weapon.

whoa, that is hilarious,
except bullets hitting your car is serious.....
a little over protective I'd say
and not a good indication of nice in-laws
I'd say it would be a good idea to find another date and stay away from that crazy mother and dependent daughter who can't get a life cause she's up under momma's wing too long...........

But how did the daughter look when she came home? Were her clothes torn, or was there a wild or dazed look in her eyes? Did moma have any reason to want to put the fear into him other than he had kept her daughter out past curfew? Was that the first date or is there any past history that would cause moma to become upset upon the realization that daughter had reconciled with a bad past?
Will daughter now realize that when she stays under moma's roof that she WILL follow moma's rules?
Will date now make an honest woman out of daughter since he's compromised her virtue? Like Beyonce say; If you like it, then you shoulda put a ring on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VdndDkze...

A curfew on a 31 year old woman!!
This must be a very disfunctional family.

hitchcock they could turn out to be some of my family members, lol. But the truth is that we don't know why the moma shot her gun. When you live at home, you still have to go by your moma's rules, no matter what age you are, and if Moma says be home by 10 p.m., then out of respect for Moma you should be there by 10 p.m.. I can't image that that is why Moma was firing her gun though, that's extreme, when Moma could have just grounded her and not allowed her to go out New Years Eve night at all.

You are so correct ! If you haven't left the nest ,then at least respect your parents home rules . Too many grown ups in the house . Get your own place and this wouldn't happen .

This is from a recent episode of the Jeffersons . George thought he was descendants of royalty . Later he found out he was descendants of slaves . He even loudly proclaimed , " Not only am I a descendant of slaves but the slaves I'm descended from were slaves . " Can you imagine living your whole life one way and then shook the tree and this fell out . I would definitely be a lot of sweeping and keeping the closets closed on this one .

What a trip? Who's ruling who's life? At 31 you are fully grown. Still there is a thing of disrespect, she shouldnt be coming in her mom's house after an allnighter.

When my grown kids stay with me all I ask is for their respect. I don't give them curfews, they are grown & are capable making decisions for themselves.
Now if they come home disturbing my neighbors or being disrespectful I will tell them in a split second to either shape up or ship out.

Has anyone thought that the mother firing the pistol at the date maybe a grandmother whose daughter left her kids for her to babysit therefor causing her to not enjoy her night out on the town herself? HMMMM!
Posted by rgn661 (anonymous) on January 4, 2009 at 9:04 a.m. (Suggest removal)
If you had all the facts you wouldn't think this is so funny. Maybe the mother is fed up with the daughter making the same mistakes over and over. I think a lot of grown kids these days are just so selfish they don't care about anyone else, including the little kids they leave for their parents to raise.

Stop making excuses for her behavior.
Anyone can get fed up but they don't start shooting a gun. Now if she had been stuck babysitting she was endangering the children. If her daughter is such a bad Mama she should be trying to set a good example for her grandchildren instead of waving a gun around like a pistol packing granny. Didn't we all get disgusted at Clifford Brandenburg just the other day for firing a gun around children? I don't by that stupid excuse. Honestly after reading (rgn661)'s remark I think the child welfare (if there were children around) should be checking into the welfare of the children.

just to help ya'll get part of the story correct------- the daughter DOES NOT/DID NOT LIVE WITH HER MOTHER.....She has her own place and her children live at both homes. The homes are walking distance from each other....AND Grandmother has the children also because she feels she can do a better job raising them (where was the good parenting when the daughter was growing up...... maybe the examples started along time ago.........most of us live BY what we were taught.

Poor children what a mixed up life they must have. They must live in constant fear of what will happen next.
It doesn't sound like either Mama or Grandma is capable of raising children.

"Names were not released in the incident because no charges have been filed, Brown said."
Why the hell haven't charges been filed by SUNDAY for an incident which occurred on WEDESDAY? I can promise u that if it were a case of, let's say ... me, driving down the road with an open can of beer, one of Ronny Brown's deputies -perhaps ole Ronny himself- would be glad, nay, overjoyed to cite me for DUI, open container violation and probably no-seat belt (I never wear it). *bongs head like in V-8 commercial* I forgot this is Adams County/Natchez where the only law is what law enforcement says it is at the time of the "violation."

Suntanned, I wouldn't brag about not wearing a setabelt. I know of at least 10 people who have died in car wrecks in recent years who would still be here if they had just had their seatbelt on.

well suntan superman I can tell you know nothing about courts This man has to file the charges in justice court on Monday if he wants to do it because the deputies did not see the incident happen. Who knows his car might have got shot somewhere else and this is way for his insurance to pay. I think it should not even be in the paper. Just because the paper said and sheriff said he said he would, might not happen by monday. In natchez they might be married already and the mother is happy as can be.

Call me stupid, but I know I would never pull a gun out and start shooting at someone. Especially if children were nearby. Now that's what I call STUPID!
The only facts I know are the ones that were printed, but I honestly am glad that's all I know because I wouldn't want to know someone with that kind of disreguard to humans.
Now would you feel the same way if you "gave the woman a good excuse" to shoot at you? I'm sure your lame point of view would change in a second when the bullets start flying.

If you were protecting your grandkids or your own daughter, you would fire a few shots. I also know this mama and she really is one of the sweetest people you could ever meet. She certainly does have a high regard for human life, mainly her grandkids. Your point of view is as lame as your comments.

For goodness sakes lame brain the daughter was ok. Apparently she had not been raped or injured by the man or he would have been arrested. Also the grandchildren were not harmed. Thank goodness they wern't hit by a stray bullet which would have come for the hot tempered grandma. The only way I think I could kill someone is if they killed my child. Now as for her having a high regard for human lives you need to think about that.
dragonflyday
You said she is the sweetest person in the world UNLESS you piss her off. You tried to make her out to be such a sweet lady but yet admitted she was capable of harming someone.

dragonflyday ...If that is true why on earth would she even allow the daughter to be near the kids?
Now as for shooting in the air why did he have a bullet hole in his car? It sound like she was just a bad aim.
I agree if he is a drug dealer he is no good, but apparently the daughter is just as bad or she wouldn't have been in a motel room with a drug dealer. That girls honor has been tarnished way before this incident if she is living a life like that. On the other hand I tend to wonder what kind of upbringing she had. It couldn't have been too good look at her Mom.

If you know the mother you are in a round about way connected to the family. Otherwise you wouldn't claim to know so much about the incident.
I've never considered myself dysfunctional. I do know I've never taken pop shots at another human. Maybe the family is considered more crazy than dysfunctional.

Pop shots are sure be shot on this page ,I dont know why the mother did what she did But she does need to control her anger. and if she must shoot a gun it would be better to fire it in the dirt away from cars or houses .Make sure there are no pets or children who can run in the field of fire. If you shoot a gun in the air the bullets have to come down .Please work on your anger .We all need to (Fools rush in where Angels fear to go )

I know this lady too...i don't know why either, that the ND would want to print something like this. It served no purpose other than to give a bunch of busybodies something to gossip about. I know this grandmother and her husband and I know they do their very best for the grandkids. I know how many times they've tried to help the daughter....and to always be let down after the daughter would do so good for so long. It's like she always has a hope that this will finally be the time when the daughter sees the light and never returns to her previous behavior. I know firsthand how much she loves her daughter....I know I would do everything within my power to get help for my own daughter and she loves hers as much as any mother does. I hate that she and the kids are always being let down. I wish our kids would grow up!!! It's not like they weren't raised to have decent morals...I'm sure ya'll know they were. Anyway, just glad we could finally get past all the crude know-it-all comments on here. I wish her and the family all the best and will continue in prayer for them.
