Alleged shooter a convicted felon

Published Thursday, January 8, 2009

NATCHEZ — The Natchez man arrested for allegedly shooting into an occupied dwelling Saturday is a convicted felon.

Transanthony Rondell Williams, 26, Apt. 703, 201 Lumber St., was charged with possession of a concealed weapon by a convicted felon.

Williams was already booked in the Natchez Police Department after being charged with aggravated assault manifesting extreme indifference to a life.

Williams had reportedly gotten in an argument with a woman at a Cedar Hurst apartment Friday evening.

After being told to leave, Williams allegedly fired one shot into the apartment.

The bullet made entry through a window and struck the victim in the leg.

Sgt. Craig Godbold said after doing some research, the police department found out that Williams has been convicted of a felony.

In 2003, Williams was convicted of burglary in Adams County.

He was received a seven-year suspended sentence on the burglary, Godbold said.

Williams is being held without bond at the Natchez Police Department.

Alleged......I cant wait for the day this word dissapears from our vocabulary.

Posted by Hambone (anonymous) on January 8, 2009 at 5:10 a.m. (Suggest removal)

So how much time did he serve for his first felony offense?

Here's a perfect example of gun control at work. We have a law against a convicted felon possessing a firearm yet, he chose to carry a gun anyway. Can you believe it a criminal not obeying a law?

He should have to spend many yearsin prison, but if Godbold is working his case he will be out doing the same thing in a little while. ACSO and NPD are a joke.

Godbold has done his part. It's up to the judges to keep him in jail. They have the authority to give him probation or lock him up. No cop or even sheriff has the right to do the judge's job (but they CAN influence the judges decision). They can only temporarily house criminals until the judge strikes the gavel. So strike it judge, strike the dadgum thing...this boy need to be locked up!!!!!

Next to the last sentence...."He was received" great job editors!

Keep him in jail without bond. When asked to leave, obey. Who do you think he is?

Posted by SniperX (anonymous) on January 8, 2009 at 9:01 a.m. (Suggest removal)

If he is a felon and caught with a firearm, according to the law, he has to serve a mandatory sentence of five years. If I recall the stupid gun control laws that our honorable congress passed. I agree with Hambone. Let's see if the judge follows the law or makes it up.

7 year SUSPENDED sentence!?

How is it that a thief/burglar/knucklehead gets seven years and all seven are suspended

I believe it is time to UNSUSPEND them and put him behind bars for those seven years plus whatever he gets for this assault with a deadly weapon.......

So many posters on here need to go back to school and take a government class. The NPD and ACSO has nothing to do with the punishment given to the criminals. Their job is to catch them and arrest them. Beyond that it is out of their hands. Here's a quick run down for you. For the separation of powers to work, there is a checks and balances system. It works like this:
There are 3 branches of the judicial system:
Legislative, Executive, and Judicial

Legislative branch (Congress) is responsible for MAKING the laws.
Executive branch (which is the category a police dept would fall under) is repsonsible for executing (enforcing) the laws. They protect the Constitution (see to it that it is correctly followed)
Judicial branch (judges) is responsible for determining the punishment or dispostion of the prisoners, as well as determines whether or not a law is constitutional.

Hope that helps!!

I have my 3 branches, Ready, Aim, Fire.

here we go again blame it on godbold, we sound stupid

let craig godbold do his job and the courts do their jobs

join the police dept if you think you can make it change or become a senator and change the laws

the 5 yr sentence for a gun by a convicted felon is federal and i donot see this man being charged by the feds

they have more to do than to fool with a small time criminal like this one and this is the problem, he needs to be taken to both courts and really given a sentence, but the feds are too busy taking cases like white collar ones that take up their time

I agree with you Oldschool . This fool needs to be off the streets for a long time . Lock the weenie up . Let's see if he can keep the likes of a "Big Bubba " off his tail . This punk probably never been in a real fight in his life . Let's see how hard those marshmallows you call fists work in jail ! Punk !

speaking of weenie some things should be removed to keep people like him from breeding

I'm sure if the judge's family had been shoot at the thug would be tried and convicted before he appeared in court.

It is unbelievable that the only comment made about this story that makes sense and should have been printed is the comment made by firered. It is obvious that firered learned something in school and is actually putting it to use. For the other people that commented, it would be a great idea for you to enroll in a U.S. Government class at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College.

I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THE PROBATION PEOPLE WOULD BE ON TOP OF THIS AFTER ALL THEY ARE SUSPOSE TO BE WATCHING HIM AND GODBOLD, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT THE PROBATION OFFICE IS THE FIRST TO CHECK ON AND WHY DID YOU NOT RUN A RECORDS CHECK UNTIL SO MUCH TIME HAD PAST.

The NPD and ACSO can only arrest them. It is not their fault if the judges let them go. If you don't like the sentence (or lack of it) get off the back of NPD adn ACSO and elect different judges. The people on the NPD adn ACSO do a job that others will not do. Why don't you tell them thanks instead of complaining. The article says "after doing some research, the police department found out that Williams has been convicted of a felony." Sounds to me like they were doing their job. They can't know all the people convicted of a felony in town. If you check their criminal records you are "doing research". Keep Up The Good Work Craig.

I'm not interested in picking a fight. It would just be nice to read intelligent comments if you feel compelled to leave one on this site. If I offended you, then maybe I hit the nail on the head.

Posted by kpage1 (anonymous) on January 9, 2009 at 8:12 a.m. (Suggest removal)

dragon...speak, speak, speak...that's your Constitutional right as an American citizen. Even if I don't agree with you, I respect your right to speak your opinion.

Educated...recount the comments made to support your argument. Even though I like fire, her comment wasn't the first to state the point you support. A good class to take at Co-Lin is English, from which you learn how to present a good argument and support the facts...accurately.

" If I offended you, then maybe I hit the nail on the head. "

You hit the nail on your own head . And besides what makes you think you're so intelligent ? Your comments reak with disrespect . Coming on here with your ignorant "A" and blatantly insulting individuals . Look "B" go back to school and take a Dale Carnegie course and stop making enemies for yourself .

Posted by educated (anonymous) on January 9, 2009 at 9:28 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Brock, are you serious? You should go back to your original comment and reread it. You said things such as:
Lock the weenie up.
Let's see how hard those marshmallows you call fists work in jail ! Punk !
I understand that you have the freedom to speak your opinion because you are an American Citizen, but you really should try to back your opinion up with facts instead of just using metaphors and calling names yourself. Are you sure you took a class about not making enemies yourself? In your original comment, you called names such as fool, weenie, and punk. Sounds like when I enroll in the Carnegie course, you should sign up for a retake yourself. Interested? Just let me know.

This man needs to be locked up! He is obviously very angry at the world. The only thing is as long as he is out his crimes will become more and more dangerous and may even escalate to murder. That is not a pleasant thought to know someone like this man is on the streets. He does not need to have a suspended sentence this time!

"In your original comment, you called names such as fool, weenie, and punk. "

Educated I didn't come on here calling any of the posters out , disrespecting them . I came on here to bash the criminal offender . And real sick of these trouble makers abusing people/the system . If you take offense to the negative comments directed at the thug just say so . I'll understand if you are related . Relatives have actually come on here to defend the wrong of criminal family members .

Posted by educated (anonymous) on January 9, 2009 at 11:25 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I am in no way, shape or form related to this person the article concerned. You and I do agree that the criminal should be locked away. It is a shame the way our system works these days. The point I wanted to originally make that you apparently have repeatedly missed, is that there is a way to debate without sounding like you have never been to school much less graduated. You and I can go round and round all you want. Just get over it and move on. Just like you, I am an American citizen and I can leave my opinion as well.

Posted by commander (anonymous) on January 9, 2009 at 11:43 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Dragonflyday, you do have the right to speak your mind. If you believe there is corruption at the police dept. point it out. Don't just accuse all of them. What have YOU done about it? Have you pointed it out to the chief? Have you brought it to anyone's attention. I'm talking about facts not rumors or opinion. You do have the right to speak your mind as long as you are not spreading lies. So be careful before one of your favorite police officers tell you....YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT.

Posted by reneef (anonymous) on January 9, 2009 at 1:40 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I agree you have the right to your opinion but I also have the right to mine. Your previous post gave the impression that it was the NPD fault that the felon was not in jail. I just felt it was wrong to blame the NPD for something they did not have any control over.

Posted by Karma101 (anonymous) on January 9, 2009 at 1:47 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Notice that I said everyone!!! You, Susy Q, Jo Blo, and I are all allowed to have our OWN opinions no matter how different they are.

It is much easier to have someone listen to your opinions when you sound like an educated individual. No one wants to listen to someone that sounds like they never made it out of the 8th grade.

If you have a problem with the way the Natchez judicial system works, then do something productive about it. Griping about it on an article online is not going to change it.

If you do choose to get out and do something about it though, please refresh your English if you need to because you won't get very far when you call people things like weenies and marshmallows.

Thanks Karma101. It is nice for other people to agree with you. I never went on this to site to insult people, but it is easier to read someones opinion and agree or disagree with it if it is written with some evidence of intelligence or knowledge. That was the point I was trying to make. Thanks for reading it and understanding it.

Posted by Karma101 (anonymous) on January 9, 2009 at 3:31 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I'm not defending the criminal. I'm not saying you're ignorant for agreeing with him.

I'm saying that if you don't like the way our criminal justice system works and you want to do something about it, you might want to try using proper English. Complaining on the internet all day isn't going to fix the system. People getting out and doing something about it is what's going to fix it. However, if you don't sound like you know what you're talking about, you aren't going to be listened to.

Posted by Karma101 (anonymous) on January 9, 2009 at 3:34 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Oh and the Natchez Democrat has to use the word "alleged" because in our Justice system, a person is INNOCENT until proven GUILTY. Therefore, until he is proven guilty, he is the "alleged" shooter.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions no matter how much education they have . Also I don't agree with either of your comments about Brock for that very reason .

tball: I don't think it makes you ignorant.

I think they mean that more people will understand what someone has to say if they are using proper English. It is very hard to agree with some comments when you have trouble understanding what they are trying to say. I also feel opinions are received by others and given more credibility if they are using proper grammer and there is no name calling.

Educated I don't seem to have a problem with understanding what Brock wrote . Am I ignorant for understanding what he wrote ? From reading his comment about you its obvious that his opinion of you is very low and vulgar .

Why all the name calling?

Posted by reneef (anonymous) on January 9, 2009 at 10:13 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I didn't mean to imply that anyone didn't have the right to voice their opinion. I understand that there are time that everyone knows who commited a crime and they are not arrested. However, you can't arrest some one without proof. I don't doubt that over the years there may have been some dirty cops in Natchez but all of them should not be painted with the same brush.
