Six arrested for alleged prison contraband

Published Friday, January 16, 2009

VIDALIA — Six people were arrested Thursday on allegations they tried to smuggle music CDs, a cell phone and marijuana into a local prison.

The plan was first detected after a correctional officer saw someone toss a fast food bag containing two CDs, a cell phone and charger and several bags of marijuana from a car into a correctional facility dumpster before speeding away Jan. 1, according to a statement from the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

After developing information from inmate phone call records, a security camera and the vehicle’s description, CPSO Narcotics Task Force Director Lt. Greg Jackson was able gather enough information to lead to the arrest of five Tensas Parish residents and the rebooking of a River Correctional Facility inmate, the statement said.

Those arrested included:

•Tettra R. Davis, 20, 120 Mississippi St., Newellton, on charges of introduction of contraband into a penal institution. Her bond was set at $25,000.

•Jennifer N. McWilliams, 28, 207 Pecan Drive, Newellton, on charges of introduction of contraband into a penal institution and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Her bond was set at $50,000.

•Ula Scott Lopez, 21, 100 First West St., Newellton, on charges of introduction of contraband into a penal institution. Her bond was set at $50,000.

•Cedric Cordel McWilliams, 207 Pecan Drive, Newellton, on charges of introduction of contraband into a penal institution and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. His bond was set at $50,000.

•Richard Damon Scott, 21, 100 First West St., Newellton, on charges of introduction of contraband into a penal institute. His bond was set at $25,000.

•Inmate Lee Andrew Scott, 29, on charges of introduction of contraband into a penal institution.

The charges against Scott, who allegedly conspired with the other suspects to have the contraband smuggled in, were in connection with a Dec. 20 incident in which correctional facility personnel reportedly confiscated music CDs from him.

Davis is reportedly Scott’s girlfriend, and Lopez and Richard Scott are reportedly his cousins, the statement said.

The matter is still under investigation.

These people don't see jail as a bad thing...they get three squares a day, get to watch TV, free gym membership and its all free. That is part of the reason for career criminals. If jail/prison was like it used to be there would be a lot less crime in my opinion. Get that warden from (i think) Texas at "tent city" and make them all do hard time...then maybe they would think about how their acitons would effect them and others.

Dang what is wrong with listening to a cd. Now the marijuana is a different story but music cd's. This stuff has been going on for years with these cell phones. I gurantee you some of the officers know what's going on but because they are underpaid they could care less because they are getting paid under the table. If they would have shakedowns like they suppose to this would not happen.

There's absolutely nuthin wrong wit listening to cds, but when u jeopardize your freedom from the outside world then you have to suffer whateva consequences that come along with the punishment. Evidently he thought that looking and listening to the 4 walls that are now surrounding him would sound better than cds cuz that's where he chose to go!

these critters should have no luxury while locked up. Bring back the chain gangs and make them dig holes with picks, then cover up, and repeat.
