Man charged in bat beating

Published Saturday, January 24, 2009

VIDALIA — A Vidalia man was arrested Friday on charges he bludgeoned another with a baseball bat earlier this month.

Timothy T. Thomas, 25, 706 N. Magnolia St., was arrested on charges of aggravated second-degree battery Friday morning.

At approximately 11:24 p.m. Jan. 3, Thomas and the victim, Jerry Williams, 39, became involved in an argument about a female, Vidalia Police Chief Ronnie G. “Tapper” Hendricks said.

At that time, Thomas allegedly took a baseball bat and struck Williams once in the front of the head in the area of the left eyebrow, once in the back of the head at the rear part of his skull. He also struck him once in the arm, Hendricks said.

Several witnesses have confirmed the story, and alcohol was involved in the incident, Hendricks said.

Williams was transported to a local hospital by private means, where he was treated and released, Hendricks said.

Thomas is being detained without bond until he is magistrated sometime next week, Hendricks said.

I thought someone had been abusing a poor innocent flying bat from the headline.

dragonfly LA does have an attempted murder statue but the agg 2nd degree batt carriers a stiffer penalty. Blame it on the law makers not the po-po. And i dont know all the details of the case but for att murder there has to be intent to kill not just to hurt.

That lil boy thinks he is bad with or without alcohol. People like that need to be in jail for life. He has been in and out of jail since he was like 14 and that lilttle group that he hangs with are all bad news.

Reporter did a great job with the headline. It did just what it was intended to do --- it got you to read the article

I too thought it was about someone beating a bat and I was getting ready with all the reasons we need bats around.

I wonder if the penalty for animal beating would have been...lol...

That settles it. Baseball bats kill. We should have a law that makes it against the law to own a bat. Someones child might accidentally find one and do something with it. At least put locks on the bats.

Bats don't kill people, bats just want love like everyone else.

I can't post what I want to because of either whining posters or whining nd personnel. You thin skinned sympathetic people are pitiful.

Riffian and Stu have a great Green Weenie weekend.

that's right southernbelle

bats are evil and should be out-lawed, especially assault bats that you can make multiple automatic swings with

at least make registration of all bats wooden or metal mandatory and if you are found in possession of an unregistered bat your home should be raided and searched without regard ..............

But in all seriousness - I hope these thugs get what's coming to 'em

Struk once in the front of the head, once in the back of the head and once on the arm. Sounds like "three strikes and you're out".

Maybe they were just trying to imitate Kenny Rogers' "Bat fetcher with my teeth" trick.

I would have thought this would have been an assault charge. But, since he used a bat, I guess that's why it's a "battery" charge! LOL

Obama will announce a new bat control policy. All bats must be registered at time a purchase. There will be a ten-day waiting period on all aluminum bats that exceed 24 inches. Anyone with as much as a speeding ticket will not be allowed to purchase a bat. Illegal aliens who are registered to vote democrat, live in the Southwest United States, and have gang tattoos, can buy all the bats they want. All forms of baseball will be highly regulated. All children caught with a bat playing baseball in the street will be subject to imprisonment for life under the new policy. Have a nice day!

I would like to beat a lot of bats too, especially when they get an attitude with me.

The title made me think of another article about Black Bears Bouncing Back In Mississippi. The ND does have a way of wording the titles.

If I would have hit him once in the front and then in the back of the head there would be nothing left. He dosen't make the team.
