What is this?
Reception cleared by fiber optic cable
Published Friday, January 30, 2009
NATCHEZ — On Thursday morning, the Today Show and other programming was coming in on a clear crisp signal coming out of Jackson.
And that new signal made its way to Natchez through a new fiber optic line recently installed by CableOne.
CableOne service manager Bobby McCool said the new line actually connected to an existing line near Roxie and was installed to bring a sharper picture into Natchez.
“It’s going to clear up a lot of our (reception) problems,” McCool said.
Until Thursday, the signal coming from Jackson-area stations was harnessed by an antenna in Natchez.
But foul weather and cloudy skies could weaken the signal and make for a snowy picture here in Natchez.
And now, provided the lines aren’t knocked down in a storm, McCool said, reception won’t be a problem.
But the installation of the new lines wasn’t cheap.
McCool said he was unsure of the total cost to install the new lines but knew it was “very costly.”
And as the cost of doing business goes up, so to will CableOne’s rates, McCool said.
“Nothing has been planned for a rate increase at this time,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean there won’t be one.”
But McCool said since rate increase decisions are made at the corporate level, he has no way to know when they’ll be coming.
While the company is just now utilizing its new fiber optic lines, there are no plans to connect Natchez to Baton Rouge with same technology.
McCool said that would only bring in duplicate programming and would not be cost effective for the company.

Cable One can cram it as far as I am concerned... Can't run a fiber optic line to Baton Rouge??? We are 84 miles from Baton Rouge according to the highway mileage sign near Trinity Epis. School. Yet, we are over 100+ miles from Jackson--- so why Jackson channels??? If you are a direct t.v. (satellite dish) subscriber in Woodville, you get Baton Rouge and Jackson channels as your local channels. I urge everyone to write Direct T.V. and point out that Natchez is closer to Baton Rouge vs. Jackson, so they should also give us Baton Rouge channels too on top of Jackson.... I hope everyone goes with a satellite dish to make it known to Cable One that they can't continue to bully us around by giving us lousy reception, limited local channels, and treat their subscriber like red headed step children.... We have totally lost our connection to our neighboring state which is a crying shame.... Poo Poo on you Cable One!

There's needs to be more competition in Natchez with cable t. v. The Mayor and the Board of Alderman need to look seriously and look to the future in Natchez rather than the present so-called cable system that we have! If Cable One doesn't like my statement, well just let them pack up and pull out of Natchez. I am currently on dish and love it thus far. Direct T. V. is also good! McCool also needs to look at Cox Communications and the City of Lafayette are doing in South Louisiana? Cable One needs to wake up! Cable One sounds like the new President of the U.S./ They don't know what to do next!?

CableOne sucks! Plain and simple!
Bad reception,,,,Plus all the rate increases are driving them out of business! There have been about 5 rate increases since I subscribed to CableOne! Not to mention that crap they call internet! Half the time we don't have our internet and when we call the office to report it,,,,they say "We're working on it",,,,OR "they will have someone out to fix it",,,,, and they never find out what the problem is!!!! If it rains our internet is out for sometimes a week at a time before it comes back on!
Plus they never do give you a refund for all the days your internet has been out either! But you still have to pay that $49.95 PLUS a $6.00 a month modem rental fee for their internet!
Thats all on top of what you have to pay for your monthly cable tv fees!
It's ridiculous to expect people to pay more for having less channels now!
They are pricing themselves out of business!
Which is best? Dish Network or Direct TV???
Enough is enough!

For a while I thought I was the only one. Of course Vidalia residents will still have to sufer because ours is still shot across the river by a satellite, no lines at all.. Have no fear my subscribtion is gone Monday, Thank the Lord no more cableone.............

The sheer ridiculousness of this makes me laugh my head off. My parents gave up cable one for Direct TV because they cut off channels but wouldn't lower their rates. And now they are going to raise their rates for more craptastic service?
However, I can't say it's just Cable one. Cable companies around the country are raising their rates. I just love that they blame the rate hike on "installing new equipment." Honestly, while the equipment install isn't cheap, they already have enough to do so and still make a profit.

Just hope no one in your family dies who has Cable One! Three or four months after the electricity & cable had been paid & disconnected, Cable One continued to send my dead mother bills, which increased each month!

I got rid of cable one years ago and got Dish. I am so glad. Dish has very clear reception and different packages and options. It is a lot clearer and cheaper. I can't believe they are considering going up on the cost when they just took away some more stations.

I'd gladly pay $150 a month for cableone's service if it were available here in kingston. I cant even have a phone because the lines out here are so old & keep going out and I have to spend almost an hour on hold to AT&T to report outage. Dialup out here, I can grow a beard faster than my home page will load. So city folks, count your blessings & gladly pay what they ask, because my satalite internet cost $79.95 a month & its not much better than dialup.

A decent airport for private craft and freight, rail lines, river transport, broadband communication and wireless connectivity inside the city, and a good educational system (Pre-K - 14) would be a good start to joining the rest of the country in the 21st century.

Bombingeight: AMEN!!!!
I have such a love/ hate relationship with Natchez...
It's like loving a spouse that physically abuses you....
We are still in the dark ages in so many respects, narrow minded, uneducated while the rest of the world just keeps moving along...... We are blessed by natural beauty, lovely architecture, friendly people to an extent--- but the poverty and uneducated populace of our fair city and surrounding area can sometimes make you want to pull your hair out... We can be sooo much more than what we are, and the sad thing is there are so many who are content with things as is..... SAD.....
