Police arrest fugitive
Published Thursday, July 9, 2009
NATCHEZ — An early morning auto theft led to the arrest of a Wilkinson County fugitive Wednesday.
But it wasn’t until the truck was stolen that Adams County Sheriff’s deputies realized the fugitive was actually a fugitive.
Hollis Green, 18, was arrested last week in Wilkinson County in connection with a series of four-wheeler thefts in Adams and Wilkinson counties.
Adams County Sheriff’s Investigator Ricky Stevens said once Green was released from Wilkinson County, he would have been sent to Adams County to face grand larceny charges.
But on Friday, Green escaped from Wilkinson County’s custody, Stevens said.
Stevens said while the ACSO had been working with officials in Wilkinson County on the case, they were never informed Green had escaped.
“He’s from Natchez, we could have been looking for him this whole time,” Stevens said.
Stevens said Wednesday an Adams County resident on his way to work stopped at a mechanic’s shop on Montgomery Road to pay the mechanic for fixing his truck.
As the man was inside, Green allegedly stole his vehicle, Stevens said.
The mechanic and his customer gave chase in the mechanic’s truck at which point the customer, who knew Green, was able to identify Green.
The truck was found a short time later on a nearby road.
“(The truck’s owner) said it was Green driving the truck,” Stevens said. “And I thought he made a mistake because I though Green was in jail.”
After learning of the mistake, the ACSO and NPD spent several hours tracking Green through Natchez and arrested him Wednesday evening.
Natchez Police Sgt. Craig Godbold said deputies and officers worked together in Green’s arrest.
“We surrounded the house and they had people come out the front door trying to distract us. We went to the back door and as he tried to come out, we were there,” Godbold said.
Stevens said Green was arrested at his girlfriend’s house on 6 Roundale Road.
Green will be facing additional charges from both the ACSO and NPD, and is currently being held without bond at the Adams County jail.

Wilkinson cty should have some explaining to do over this one.
They must have the same holding procedures as Concordia parish.

Escaped???, probably with some help from inside. That might be why Adams County was not notified. Or either they were too embarrassed to admit he had gotten away.

Where in the article did it say they were on welfare or gov't programs ted? Must be antoher article you're reading. Was Madoff or Stanford on welfare or using gov't programs? I see you got the typical bigot, hypocrite, racist responses most Natchezians have

I agree Marine. How do they know these people are on welfare.Such an idiot.

I am sure the people that was in the house trying to distract the police was all off work that day and they have jobs and not depend on the govt. to take care of them. I dont have any days off because i have to work 7 days a week to cover the welfare tax they hold out of my check. If you have a job you should not have a reason to steal. Most likely ted you are a 100% correct on this. THE REST OF YOU ARE JUST TRYING TO JUSTIFY IT. 85 % OF NATCHEZIANS ARE ON WELFARE AND GOVT PROGRAMS. WHY WORK WHEN YOU CAN GET IT FREE AND STAY AT HOME AND HAVE IDLE TIME TO STEAL AND DOUBLE THE BENIFIT.

From an old Marine, denecia08 thank you for capitalizing the word "Marine". If he had any respect for the Corps I served marinefrmntz would do so too.
I hate to see young folks these days who seem to think that they can have anything they want just by taking it. This isn't the old west. Yet.

At least if it turns to the old west the authorities will not persecute or prosecute citizens for taking up the slack in law enforcement.
The risk the criminals took in the old west was real - the end of a rope or the inside of a festering brick cell... maybe the receiving end of a .44?
Not so much to risk these days, seems to me.

Lol 85% of Natchezians should be on welfare. Where are the jobs and careers there? How many jobs does Natchez have paying more that minimum wage? Oh wait let all Natchezians join the military like I did. Hmm, well here in Baton Rouge the city is trying to keep its residents from leaving the city to find employment elsewhere. Baton Rouge has one of the highest employment rates in the country and the economy here is great (well at least to me). @Hardcorps plz dont give me that internet capitalize Marine speech its so foolish, don't be so crazy as to assume that with me capitalizing a letter will garnish any more respect for a word than it deserves. Big M, lowercase M its all the same on my uniform.

@ HardCorps that's why you're a OLD Marine. Its really funny to see how the older generation thinks they are still more smarter than the new generation when more information has been gained and spread now than any other time in history via internet and other sources.

this is just what its' gonna take, and always has been the case, that regular joes, good citizens must get involved and lend a hand in bringing thugs to justice.....

YOU APPARENTLY HAVE LITTLE OR NO RESPECT FOR YOUR ELDERS OR YOUR CORPS WITH THAT ATTITUDE. HARDCORPS, OOOOOO-RAH!
Posted by marinefrmntz (anonymous) on July 9, 2009 at 5:31 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I only respect Elders who have earned it. I love my Corps obviously I wouldn't have put so much time and effort in it and they definitely wouldn't have put as much time and effort into me.. so that feeling is mutual.. and just because a person is elderly doesn't mean anything.. I don't respect a person because they are old... I respect a person because they are wise.
