Wilkinson County man dead from gunshot

Published Saturday, July 11, 2009

WOODVILLE — Darren Terell Tillery, 25, died from a single gunshot wound to the head, Wilkinson County Coroner Travis Sharp said.

Tillery died on July 2 at his house during the night hours, Sharp said. He was shot with a 12-gauge shotgun at close range.

The shooting occurred in the side yard at the family’s Doloroso Loop house.

The autopsy has been completed and Sharp said he was waiting to hear details of the investigation from the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office.

Both of Darren Terell Tillery’s parents — Oscar Tillery Jr. and Rosa Lee Collins Tillery — were present at the house when Sharp arrived the night of the incident.

Sharp said Oscar Tillery was taken by Wilkinson County sheriff’s deputies to the station in connection with the shooting, but Sharp did not know if charges had been filed or if Oscar Sharp was still in custody.

Dispatchers at the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s office said Sheriff Reginald Jackson was not in the office when repeated calls were placed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Jackson did not return messages left for him, and dispatchers said no other deputies were present to answer questions.

Dispatchers also would not provide information from the incident report.

What is the point of putting this in the paper? The shooting happened on July 2 and here it is July 11 and still nobody know anything.

Get over it Tris.
It apparently was not public news because of the investigation.
I'm sure you'll get details soon.

I wonder what mischief the high sheriff of Wilkinson County was up to during those days? I guess it really doesn't matter to the folks of Wilkinson County since he is still sheriff.

Ever thought that this case was still under investigation at the time of the calls? And maybe the ND was told that. That was somebody's life taken. So please give this family some respect and don't try to make a political issue of this.

May God continue to bless this family. Bless you Mrs. Rose....

I agree with Tris. It has been almost two weeks and now the democrat wants to report it. I tell you...if it were about the pilgramage or something stupid and not the news it would be splattered all over the front page. It is about time that the democrat had some competition...I 'd rather buy the Vidalia Sentinel it's more informative and not published on a daily basis. Another place to find unbiased and real news is from that little weekly free paper here in Natchez-published by Peter Renaldi.

I believe this was a case where the "dead guy" was beating up his father and his father got fed up...at least that what I heard.
