Items stolen from Habitat house
Published Sunday, July 19, 2009
NATCHEZ — For the second time in two years, thieves have stolen property from the Natchez-Adams Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat’s Secretary Treasurer Duncan McFarlane said between Friday afternoon and Saturday a thief, or thieves, entered the Habitat house at 34 Claiborne St. and stole an air compressor, used to power a nail gun, a fan and two extension cords.
“A lot of the equipment belongs to our volunteers, and we won’t know if anything else was stolen until they have a chance to go to the house and see if anything else is missing,” McFarlane said.
And while McFarlane said the missing nail gun won’t have a big impact on the completion of the half finished house — it doesn’t help.
“Now we’re going to have to reimburse the owners (of the stolen goods,)” he said. “It probably won’t be more than $600, but that’s money that could have gone into the house. It just makes us mad.”
McFarlane said two years ago thieves broke into a Habitat house and stole $2,000 in copper wiring.
“It’s not as bad as that, but it’s frustrating,” he said.
Natchez Police Sgt. Craig Godbold said the matter will be investigated.

That is why when you leave the jobsite you pack up all your stuff and leave nothing behind. Not even nails, these days those would be stolen to. I hope they find the thief that took the stuff.

well if habitat for humanity would build these houses somewhere besides the ghetto that would not happen as much......

What hideous comments from Greenteeth and lookingout. I guess you think you're being cute and clever. However, it's viewed by me as ignorant, cold and smarmy.

ditto to natasha.
Do you folks really even care about the stories which are written about? Or...do you just lie in wait -- like a snake -- to see what you can gripe and b-tch about?

As a volunteer with Habitat, I am pleased that so many people took the time to comment about the recent theft. You can help even more by coming to the work site on any given Monday, Wednesday, or Saturday morning. I look forward to seeing some of you soon. Claiborne Street runs to the west off the 1000 block of MLK.

Habitat is doing a great job in the community by helping families to have that chance to become a homeowner. For the one that made the comment about them being in the ghetto, get a life or better yet donate to Habitat to help them. They are doing a wonderful job in the community and thieves don't discriminate on where they choose to steal from so let's leave the assuming along.

I myself don't care about habitat so much, this is why, I used to work for Home Depot and they do alot of volunteering and community giving back so one day we are on a habitat house roof in a new habitat community and at lunch time lo and behold at one of the houses the people who lived there were coming home in a brand new Escalade and there was already a Lexus in the driveway and yes they were the occupants of the home then I noticed after looking around a bit these people had nicer vehicles than everyone that had volunteered. I got down off the roof and left and vowed to never again to bust my ass for someone who was better off by receiving my tax money than myself. Sorry but that's just the way I feel and it's a shame because I have so much compassion for people or those who deserve it anyway.

If the people want to help the truly needy, just take a run out into the country and see the old folks there with their houses in dire need of repair. Black and white folk. No discrimination here, just the truth. Let Habitat help them out and they will gain my support.

H for H is trying to make a difference.
The thieves are TRIFLING and could care less about quality of life.
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO WATCHING OUT FOR THY NEIGHBOR.
THIEVES HAVE A REWARD ALSO. We may not be around to see it, but they will REAP WHAT THEY HAVE SOWN.

WhiteOleander, YOU(and others) gripe every time someone doesn't agree with you or has a negative opinion. Respect their opinion as they should yours. Our rights to have an opinion didn't come from people who always agreed with everything. Unfortunately, in Natchez area, that's how it works, not by the quality of your work or what you're saying, but whether or not people 'LIKE' you or if you step on toes and rock the boat or not. Frankly I agree with DUCKHUNTER. I'd be interested to see what kind of car parks in the driveway of these new houses. However, I do support H and H for their humane efforts. They just can't be supid in the future as justthefacts man said and realize the element they're working with and pack the stuff up.

My two cents worth.
I respect H for H for trying to help. I have not personally seen the type of situation nlhoman did but if that is the case then they need to screen their applicants more carefully.
As for the police catching criminals. They can investigate but if citizens do not confess what they know about the situation then the criminals will not be found. Have any of you complaining about them every been made aware of or suspected criminal activity by some one you know? Did you report it?

Spread the wealth,Obama says. Everybody gets the same,no matter what it costs the working class.Triple the taxpayers light bills, tax us to death. Then take that tax money and build them projects homes, brick homes and pay their light bills and give all free health care.Mexican,Hispanics,All races get it all free. Spread the wealth. Figure that one out.

In Natchez it is almost impossible to find someone to do carpenter work, odd jobs or any work. They only want the big jobs. Why can,t some of these people sitting in these projects and freebie homes be put to work helping someone less fortunate. A lot of them are young and perfectly healthy. I know they are in good health because they keep dropping babies left and right. Some of the elderly can,t hire anyone to help them do some of the things they can no longer physcially do.

It really doesn't matter where it is built or what happens after it is lived in. What matters is where YOUR heart is in the process of helping your fellow man. I hope they catch the thieves for the simple reason that stealing is wrong, no matter who does it or where it happens.

Godcu, If you hadn't noticed I mentioned that i had alot of compassion for the human race but I also can't stand the fleecing that goes on in this country. We try and teach our kids to do better in lifego to school get a good job live well and then some teach their kids to ask how can you help me or just don't worry the government will take care of you....... and yes I did from the heart but my heart has no room for the moochers of the world.

I haven't seen this for myself - But I have seen people pay with a huge stack of food stamps at the store, then pay for the balance from a giant roll of $50's and $100's - and then pack it all into a car I couldn't afford if I sold a kidney.
Poverty seems to pay pretty good for some people.
And I have had a job since I was 14.

I hope they hang the "sum beach" by his testicles, and whoever feels sorry for him, should have to keep him in their home, as an effort to reform him!

Catch the theives and string em up! I do agree that it's upsetting to drive to drive through these undiserible parts of all towns,USA and find these places that have been built by our government(our tax dollars) and see the just plain neglect and abuse that go on there. The same goes for the "habitat"housing. Some people just don't want to live decently. Besides they didn't work for it and most of them feel they are owed that free ride just because they have been raised that way by folks with a lot of hate and bitterness toward people of another race. I realize not all these people are of one color nor could they all be considered of a minority. But the biggest majority is! Until we start putting our priorities in the right places it's not going to change. We need to stop feeling guilty for things we had no control of in the beginning of all this give away we're seeing now. Put our compassion and hard earned money where it belongs. That does not mean we need to pay more taxes for such as this. Or take our precious time away from our families and friends to do good honest work for people that don't appreciate it. We should help each other when someone is in need. Just don't be a soft touch!

Or are you just making up a good story for the internet?

I too use to work for Wal-Mart and would see the folks come in with two or three buggies and have to pay cash for something and have a stack of hundreds in their wallet or billfold. Look we all know this goes on and I guess it's just part of society so you can accept it and go on with our lives, give excuses because you'r ignorant to the facts, or we can try and do something about it. Anyway this is getting way off the main story line so keep making excuses for these louticris acts and they will keep taking money out of your pockets, your kids pockets, and everybody else who don't get a wellfare check.
By the way I do realize that alot of people do deserve help and I have never not wanted to help someone that was interested in helping themselves in the right way.
