Man shot in back of head
Published Thursday, July 30, 2009
NATCHEZ — Interference in a domestic violence incident by outsiders led to two gunshot wounds Tuesday night.
Natchez Police Sgt. Craig Godbold said Poucha Johnson, 19, 10 Lincoln St., and Chris Wimberly, 27, 1018 Martin’s Lane, were physically fighting Tuesday evening at Johnson’s Lincoln Street home.
Poucha’s mother Edna Johnson, 53, 10 Lincoln St., tried to interfere and Wimberly allegedly began beating her as well, Godbold said.
Wimberly then reportedly left the house, and shortly after, Poucha’s father, Arthur Johnson Sr., 55, 106 E. Frankin St., and Poucha’s brother, Arthur Johnson Jr. came home to find Poucha and Edna injured.
The two men left the home looking for Wimberly.
“They found Chris down the street and Arthur Johnson Jr. got into a fistfight with Chris Wimberly,” Godbold said. “While fighting, some of Chris’s friends saw them fighting and pulled up.”
Simultaneously, Arthur Johnson Sr. tried to break up the fight between his son and Wimberly.
“When he stepped in, someone ran up behind him and shot him in the back of the head,” Godbold said.
The shooter then ran off down the street, but not before turning back around and firing five or six more shots at Arthur Johnson Sr.
A few streets away, Anthony Haywood, 23, was sitting at his grandmother’s house at 719 Smith St., and heard the gunshots.
He saw Arthur Johnson Sr. laying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the back of his head, and yelled into his grandmother’s house for his brother-in-law to throw him his gun.
“Anthony Haywood drops it, the gun goes off and he shoots himself in the ankle,” Godbold said.
Both Haywood and Arthur Johnson Sr. were sent to a local hospital, where Haywood was treated and Arthur Johnson Sr. was sent to the University Medical Center in Jackson for further treatment.
Godbold said Arthur Johnson Sr.’s wound did not appear to be life threatening, as he was walking and talking at the scene of the crime.
Wimberly was arrested and charged with domestic violence and is being detained at the Natchez city jail without bond.
“We’re still looking for the person who shot Arthur Johnson Sr. in the back of the head,” Godbold said.
When an arrest is made on the shooter, the charge will be aggravated assault.
Also, the gun Haywood allegedly shot himself with is missing, and police are currently searching for it.

Attempted murder ....not aggravated assault. If you shoot someone in the back of the head you are trying to kill them!

Have I seen a couple of these names in the "Court Records" of the ND before?

Seems like the "makings" of a good movie! The whole gang of the people should have been arrested! Probable cause was there for sure!

Mississippi, unfortunately, does not have an 'attempted murder' charge. ANY assault with a weapon is 'aggravated assault' here, whether you hit them with a stick or shoot them with a gun.

Rushinghjr, I agree with you. Everyone should have been arrested. This is crazy, worse than any drama you would see on the BIG screen. Folks throwing guns, fighting all throught the streets....this is absolutely crazy.... Everyday I log on to read about the happenings in my hometown.... and everyday I am disappointed......wake up everybody!!!

mississippi does have attempted murder charge but it only has a 5yr jail time, but aggravated assault holds 15-25yrs

Mississippi does have an attempted murder charge. I've always been told that it only carries a 5 yr maximum sentence as opposed to the 20 yr max sentence of aggravated assault. But after research on the internet I find that to not be true. They both carry a 20 yr sentence. So now I'm just as confused as everyone else.

I was once an optimist regarding the ability of people with questionable tendencies to act violently to refrain from acting badly and finding common ground to solve problems. I am no longer an optimist...I am now convinced these people will hurt you or worse kill you.
Natchez as a whole was such a lovely place to live (particularly in the city of Natchez)when I was younger, it was really a nice and safe place to be proud of but now I am not so sure if this is the type of city or retirement community I want to retire to.
Thugs running amok, fighting and shooting with no regards to humanity. It seems the older people become the more adolescent they become. Building some kind of fortess for people underneath the Mississippi River seems like an option right about now !

Personally I'm thrilled that the girl has a father and brother willing to try to protect her and her mother. That is so rare! But he really should have reported it and let the police get him. He is in the paper frequently so I'm sure they would know where he is. Hope the father and other victim are ok soon.

I hate a woman beater also- a 27 yr old punk beating on a 19 yr old girl, and her momma too, that's pathetic, he coulda just walked away.....idiot....
can't blame them for being "temporarily insane" and wanting to put a whooping on Wimberly.. anybody hit my wife I would loose it too.....
too bad things went sour for the Johnsons when Wimberly's punkfriends showed up....
must have been a small calibre handgun to not hurt Arthur Sr anymore than that.....lucky for him,......
hope it all works out, that coward shooter was seen by several witnesses, we all know that, and if they will not cooperate they should be charged same as him for with-holding evidence and obstructing justice.....

Natchez Natchez Natchez to much time on their hands. These people need something to do or this WILL get worse. Most of the serious crimes seem to happen in north natchez. I wonder does anyone really care. I guess some say,as long as its not in my back yard oh well.My family lives in north natchez so i am not immune to what goes on. When you look at whats going in Natchez, not just crime, everyone should take a deep breath and look where our town is headed. When i read these comments it is clear that people are tired. It just feels like the town is about to burst. The people seem so tight.I hope it doesnt take something really serious to happen for us to open our eyes. When you look at the crime stats, im sure they are very disproportionate. Sure there are criminals who just want to do criminal things,im not arguing that point, but have anyone ever thought people sometimes do criminal things because they feel its the only for THEM to do.Look at the ages that are most common,PRETTY YOUNG right, thats because they are.Eventually deseases spread, find these kids something to do or it will only get worse, because these kids will grow up and i dont think anyone will want deal with them when they are older..................break the cycle and criminal acts WILL go down.

To all this might concern, I have you to know that the Johnson's might me a well known name, but I have you to know they have not followed (gunther57) Mr. Wimberly around the father and son are one of two grown men and don't have the time to follow a little immature boy around. However before you give information it would be wise to have the correct information. For those concerned Natchezians, Arthur Johnson Sr. as well as Arthur Jr. are doing just fine. We are a family of prayer and with God on our side everything has gone well and will continue to be well. As far as who shot Arthur Sr., it's not a mystery but I will say he is a felon on the street that the PD would want to remove and place the scum where he needs to be.

Someone sneaked up behind Johnson and shot him in the head . Boy ! I hope they find that felon real soon . Frankly this turdball shouldn't be free at all , he's a savage and needs to be put away . Walks behind a man and shoots him in the head . What a low life coward this scum ball is .

Yes he is a very low life coward that has no kind of morals or values in life. But... what's to be expected if he is on probation and a felon, thats the tricks they/he tend to participate in. Arthur Jr. is a very quite mannerable young man and if it were my mother and sister, I would do the same thing.

Hello, my name is Ashley and I am a convicted felon that is also on probation. This is not something that I am proud of but it's true. The reason that I created this account is to say that although many convicted felons that are on probation do participate in reoccuring criminal activity that we all do not.Like i said I'm not by any means proud of this or proud to be put in the same catagory as this man. Some people, like myself, learn their lesson.I went to prison in Louisiana and before i went i had gotten another charge in Mississippi which resulted in me being a convicted felon on probation when i was released.I learned my lesson and I'm not a criminal even though i participated in illegal activity more than one time in my life.I choose not to participate in it anymore but this does not change the fact that I'm a convicted felon and always will be.I came on here to say that i guess it just hurt my feelings to think that people believe that we(felons)will always be that way and never change because some of us can and want to better ourselves in life.I'm not saying that is the case with this gentleman because obviously it isn't ,but we all are not like this.I embarrassed myself and my family in doing what i did and if i could take it back i would but i can't.If i can change one persons thoughts on "All Convicted Felons"then i guess i acheived my goal in doing what i came on here to do.I didn't come on here to fight or make anyone mad or even expect them to comment back to me I just felt like i needed to get that off my chest.

wimberly and his thug friends should all be lined up and shot in the back of the head.wimberly you read about him in the crime reports all the time .i'm sure whoever shot mr. johnson is a frequent read also.the johnson girl has been in trouble also go ahead and line her up she is headed in the same direction as the rest of these idiots.

AshleyThorpe,
I am truly sorry if this offended you but I didn't say every felon...I stated" they/he" meaning the person who shot Mr. Johnson, I should have explained what I was saying.. sorry. You are totally right some felons do bounce back and learn from there mistakes, I applaud you for that, I am speaking in reference to the person who shot this good hearted man who was just trying to break up the fight and the shooter had nothing to do with what was going on. The shooter, I am totally aware of who he is and he is a felon and no lifed and will ALWAYS be.

First of all this is not just some random stuff that just happened. Chris and Pocha have a child together, so naturally they will have some contact with each other. I by no means mean to condone what Chris does. But Chris whips that girl almost everyday and she goes around town bragging about she has him. Also, I have seen them in action Pocha always starts and pushes Chris buttons knowing she is dealing with psycho thug!
The point or moral of this is Why NOT REMOVE YOURSELF FROM A BAD SITUATION AND STAY AWAY FROM PSYCHO.
He wont be in jail long he never is! But dont feel too sorry for Mrs. Poucha she will be back at it again claiming the throne of Mrs. Wimberly.
ALL HAIL THE QUEEN!

Thank you Diva I appreciate your apology and i probably shouldn't have taken it personally.Sometimes you just want people to know that all of of us aren't like that.I'm sorry that happened to that gentleman and i hope he makes a full recovery.I will` keep him and the family in my prayers.I do hope that they catch the man who did that to him. Thanks again for recognizing that we aren't all like him even though we are all catagorized as felons. You're probably right about him and he'll probably never change and i hate to say that because i wouldn't want anyone to say that about me.But i could never commit the crime he committed against another human being and if he is capable of something like that then he shouldn't be allowed to walk the streets.Your family will be in my prayers and once again thanks

Tbo you are exactly right. Chris and Poucha stay into it and she does push his buttons to make him react in a violent matter. It seems to me that she likes the drama that Chris brings to the table but this time she brought harm to her family that almost ended tragically. They both should just leave each other alone and move on with their lives before one of them get seriouly hurt or killed.

If Mrs. Poucha Wimberly is brain dead the poor mama needs to stand her ground and deny psycho thug entrance to their home. They don't deserve this devestation as a family just because this poor love starved soul makes poor decisions.

Women like poucha need to first love themselves. If you love yourself you will not let some fleabag come along and abuse you. You don't abue what you love.
Poucha go get a makeover! Take a self esteem class! better yet get a job!! Life can be better. You have my prayers!

All these nasty comments and my comment got removed because I said the whole thing was hilarious. The situation sounds like a bunch of retards in a video game. This huge amount of ignorance can't be for real. Can it?
I feel sorry for such ignorant people.

Too bad some of the Natchez thugs don't invest in a video camera instead of a gun, then they could record their crimes and sell the clips like they do in Baton Rouge...Thugin It and Lovin It (google it). Heard they were selling like hotcakes.

I agree that the police should have been called instead of the family trying to handle the situation.
I hope that people realize that you don't follow the devil to his pit or you will burn. It is understandable that the father and brother wanted to protect her, but in reality protection should have started by keeping the idiot away from the her.
Since the McQuarters case and other domestic abuse cases, have we not learned the value of life.
I don't understand why women feel like in order for a man to love you he should beat you, and then involve the whole family.
I say take the abused victims to jail as well as the abusers since they keep going back for more, and charge them with DOMESTIC IGNORANCE!!!
