Vehicle accident leads to three injured

Published Friday, July 31, 2009

NATCHEZ — A three-vehicle accident on Southwind Road Wednesday afternoon left all three drivers injured.

Adams County Investigator Ricky Stevens said Howard Buckley, 55, of Natchez was driving in the westbound lane on Southwind Road, when Christopher McIntyre, 20, of Vicksburg, who was traveling eastbound, crossed into his lane.

Buckley pulled his car out of the way to avoid a head-on collision, and McIntyre collided into Buckley’s car on the side.

Meanwhile, Walter Thomas Jr., 22, of Natchez, was driving behind Buckley in the westbound lane and witnessed the collision.

He had stopped completely, Stevens said, but after McIntyre collided with Buckley, his car continued forward to crash into Thomas’ car.

The Natchez Fire Department had to assist in the extrication of McIntyre from his car.

All three drivers were transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Southwind is a winding road with many blind curves and everybody drives too fast on it.

I don't know about McIntyre having to be removed from his car with the use of the "jaws of life". But, I do know for a fact that Buckley had to be removed with the jaws of life. He is still in ICU pending transfer to Jackson. Why in the world was McIntyre in the wrong lane? Texting maybe?? Southwind road (or any road for that matter) is NOT a road to incurr ANY distractions. 3 lives were put in danger!

That road, Liberty , Ogden, a lot of the roads in the county are like snakes. Our neighborhood (ELGIN) is like that and narrow. We have people that come down it speeding and on the wrong side of the road. There is no where to go when you meet these people. We have one young man that lives in the neighborhood that drives so fast and wreckless that I am afraid he is going to kill someone one day. It doesn`t do any good to talk to him or his parents. He has had his driving suspended and been in lawsuits and he still drives the same way. Some people just act like the whole road belongs to them. There is not much you can do when people just don`t care. I hope all in this wreck recover and learn something constructive from it.
