Grand Village sets schedule for annual summer film series

Published Thursday, June 11, 2009

Natchez — The Grand Village of the Natchez Indians will show three videos in its annual summer video series. The videos will be both interesting and entertaining to persons of ages 12 to adults and will be shown in the museum auditorium. Films will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on scheduled Thursdays.

Each showing is one hour long and a short group discussion on the subjects will follow.

Thursday, June 25

Rain Forest: Heroes of the High Frontier, focuses on a new breed of researcher who is exploring the rain forest canopy one hundred feet above the ground, where harpy eagles snatch sloths from trees, snakes fly from tree to tree, and apes perform dare devil stunts.

Thursday, July 23

“Panama Wild: Rain Forest of Life.” Researchers from around the world are studying the forest’s millions of complex animal and plant partnerships as they put together the puzzle of the very nature of life on earth.

Thursday, August 20

“Black Indians: An American Story” will be shown. This one-hour documentary brings to light a forgotten part of America’s past — the cultural and racial fusion of Native and African Americans. Narrated by James Earl Jones, it explores what brought these two groups together, what drove them apart, and the challenges they face today.

The Grand Village of the Natchez Indians at 400 Jefferson Davis Blvd. The site museum that opened in 1976 is open to the public Monday – Saturday 9 am to 5 pm and on Sundays 1:30 to 5 pm. The grounds are open from 8:00 am to dusk. Call during regular office hours Monday – Friday to schedule tours and special outings. Admission is free.
