NATCHEZ — The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary that occurred last week at the Sibley Store.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Ricky Stevens said a large cash box, the store’s surveillance camera and the camera’s VCR with videotape were taken in the burglary last Thursday.

Stevens said he believes more than one thief participated in the burglary.

The store’s cash box was so large that it would not fit through the broken window, and the thieves had to break out of one of the store’s doors in order to escape, Stevens said.

“I don’t think one person could have carried (the cash box,)” he said.

The store’s owner reported more than $700 in cash was stolen,

More than $300 in cash and change, and the cash box, were found near the scene of the crime on Hutchings Landing Road. The VCR and surveillance camera have not been located.

Stevens said fingerprints were recovered at the scene and local authorities do have suspects for the burglary.
